This game marks the debut of Eddie Oakley as the head coach of Paul Dunbar. Oakley replaced Frank Watson who retired at the end of last season. West Carter is coached by Grady Lowe whose son Casey, a 6-3 Sr. guard, is considered one of the top players in the state
West Carter's starting lineup consists of 6-2 Jr. Corey Bear, 6-3 So. Justin Lewis, 5-11 Sr. Josh Shutte, 6-0 Sr. Brandon Boggs, and 6-3 Sr. Casey Lowe. Dunbar countered with 6-4 Jr. Rod Lyvers, 6-3 Jr. Clay Tate, 5-10 Sr. Rayshon Williams, 5-10 Sr. Brannon Dunn, and 6-5 Sr. Alexious Osumenya.
Dunbar's quickness and size allowed them to race out to a sizeable lead and coast to a 78-55 win. They controlled the boards, easily broke West Carter's press and forced Casey Lowe into an uncharacteristic 6 of 23 from the field and 14 points. Lowe and Boggs led West Carter with 14 each. Alexious Osumenya paced the victors with 18 points. Dunn finished with 14 points and Williams added 12. Rod Lyvers chipped in with 10 rebounds.
