Henry Clay (12-4) vs. Tates Creek (9-4) January 11, 2000
Henry Clay coach Kirk Chiles started the following lineup: 6-5 So. Clay List, 6-0 Sr. J.C. Mitchell, 6-2 Jr. Rod Dunham, 6-2 Sr. Daryl Carden, and 6-0 Sr. Banks Douglass. Henry Clay Point guard 5-10 Sr. Rod Cotton will miss tonight's game but the Blue Devils will welcome back their returning top scorer and rebounder from last year Shane Boyd. Shane, a 6-1 Sr., is just returning from an injury suffered during football season. Coach Joe Pat Covington started the following lineup for Tates Creek: 6-5 Sr. Will Thomas, 6-0 Sr. LaMarcus Baker, 6-4 Sr. Stephen Gray, 6-0 Sr. Jeff Lewis, and 6-0 Sr. Joe Warren.
Henry Clay recovered from a disastrous first quarter in which they were
outscored 17-7 to close within three 31-28 at halftime. Daryl
Carden came out firing in the third quarter, scoring 14 points including
four "3's" to lead Henry Clay to a 44-43 lead at the end of three periods.
Tates Creek capitalized on numerous Henry Clay turnovers and used a 10-0
run to spurt ahead 61-49 and coast to a 65-51 victory. The victors
were led by LaMarcus Baker with 20 points and Will Thomas
with 14. Henry Clay was led by Daryl Carden with 19 points.
