Boyd County (2-0) vs. Lafayette (2-0) December 4, 1999
Boyd Co. coach Roger Zornes started the following lineup: 6-4 Sr. Tyler Zornes, 6-0 Sr. Adam Young, 5-9 Sr. Tyler Borders, 6-3 Sr. Caleb Stewart, and 6-8 Sr. Brandon Rose.
Lafayette coach Don Adkins countered with 6-2 Jr. Robert Madison, 6-1 Sr. Norman Lee, 6-2 Sr. J.D. Dixon, 5-11 Jr. Quinton Roberts, and 6-1 Jr. Nick Everman.
This was a very exciting game with Boyd County winning 88-83 in double overtime. Both teams came out "running and gunning" and the score was 28-28 at the end of the first quarter. Lafayette pulled ahead 47-36 at halftime. Boyd County rallied to tie the game at 71 at the end of regulation. The first overtime ended in a 75-75 tie. Tyler Zornes scored 7 points in the second overtime to lead Boyd County to the win.
Zornes led the victors with 31 points, 10 assists, and 5 rebounds. Zornes, rated as one of the best players in the state, lived up to his reputation tonight. Brandon Rose chipped in with 15 points. Robert Madison led Lafayette with 32 points and J.D. Dixon added 15. Dixon's foul problems helped contribute to Lafayette's downfall tonight.
