Waynesville (27-0) vs. Columbus Africentric (27-0) Division III (Championship)

 

Waynesville coach Jim Gabbard started the following lineup: Jr. Kenzie Purkey, Jr. Carli Brown, 6-0 Sr. Marcella Sizer, 5-7 Sr. Rachel Murray, and 5-8 Sr. Lynzie Hartshorn.  Columbus Africentric coach William McKinney countered with 6-0 Sr. Jordan Horston, 6-0 So. Arianna Smith, 6-4 Jr. Sakima Walker, 5-9 Jr. Alexia Smith, and 5-11 So. Maliyah Johnson.

 

Columbus Africentric led 39-24 after three quarters but had to withstand a furious Waynesville rally to earn a 51-47 victory and their seventh girls’ basketball state titles.  Columbus Africentric shot 27.3% from the field including three of 10 from the three point line.  The Nubians connected on 18 of 33 free throws, pulled down 46 rebounds, and committed 13 turnovers.  Waynesville shot 37.5% from the field including four of nine from beyond the arc.  The Spartans connected on 19 of 25 free throws, pulled down 24 rebounds, and committed 20 turnovers.

 

Jordan Horston led Columbus Africentric with 15 points including eight of 10 free throws, six assists, and two steals.  Arianna Smith added 11 points and six rebounds.  Maliyah Johnson recorded seven points and 13 rebounds.  Alexia Smith chipped in with six points and seven rebounds.

 

Rachel Murray led Waynesville with 15 points including two three point baskets and seven of seven free throws.  Marcella Sizer added 13 points and 12 rebounds.  Lynzie Hartshorn chipped in with seven points.  5-6 So. Leah Butterbaugh recorded seven points including four of six free throws and two assists.

Toledo Rogers (26-2) vs. Dayton Carroll ((27-2) Division II (Championship)

 

Toledo Rogers coach Lamar Smith started the following lineup: 5-11 So. Madison Royal-Davis, 5-9 Sr. Zia Cooke, 6-2 Sr. Tanaziah Hines, 5-6 So. Cortney Gardner, and 5-8 Sr. Kerrah Peace.  Dayton Carroll coach Cecilia Grosselin countered with 5-11 So. Megan Leraas, 5-8 Sr. Elisabeth Bush, 6-1 Jr. Julia Keller, 5-6 So. Ava Lickliter, and 5-7 Jr. Allie Stefanek.

 

Toledo Rogers defeated top-ranked Dayton Carroll by a score of 56-45 to capture the championship.  Dayton Carroll ran a box and chaser defense with Toledo Rogers Zia Cooke being the focus of their defense.  However, Cooke still had a good game and her teammates stepped up to earn the championship.

 

Toledo Rogers shot 44.4% from the field including three of 10 from the three point line.  The Rams connected on 13 of 20 free throws, pulled down 36 rebounds, and committed 14 turnovers.  Dayton Carroll shot 31.4% from the field including three of 12 from beyond the arc.  The Patriots connected on 10 of 17 free throws, pulled down 32 rebounds, and committed 11 turnovers.

 

Madison Royal-Davis led Toledo Rogers with 17 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists.  Zia Cooke added 13 points, 11 rebounds, four assists, and two steals.  Kerrah Peace recorded nine points.  Tanaziah Hines added eight points, seven rebounds, and six blocked shots.

 

Julia Keller led Dayton Carroll with 17 points including four of five free throws and six rebounds.  Elisabeth Bush added 14 points including five of six free throws, and 12 rebounds.

Ottoville coach Dave Kleman started the following lineup: 5-9 Jr. Quinley Schlagbaum, Sr. Haley Hoersten, 5-11 Sr. Brynlee Hanneman, 5-7 So. Nicole Knippen, and 5-7 Sr. Kasey Knippen.  Minster coach Mike Wiss countered with 5-9 Sr. Demaris Wolf, 5-8 So. Jessica Falk, 6-2 Sr. Courtney Prenger, 5-8 So. Ivy Wolf, and 5-8 So. Janae Hoying.

 

Minster trailed 13-9 after the first quarter but rallied to defeat Ottoville by a score of 53-37.  Minster shot 47.6% from the field including four of 13 from the three point line.  The Wildcats connected on nine of 14 free throws, pulled down 25 rebounds, and committed six turnovers.  Ottoville shot 30% from the field including five of 10 free throws, pulled down 31 rebounds, and committed 16 turnovers. 

 

Janae Hoying led Minster with 19 points including three three point baskets and four steals.  Courtney Prenger added 16 points, eight rebounds, and three blocked shots.  Ivy Wolf recorded nine points, four rebounds, three assists, and five steals. 

 

Haley Hoersten led Ottoville with 10 points, three rebounds, and three assists.  Kasey Knippen added nine points, six rebounds, and two steals.  Nicole Knippen recorded six points and nine rebounds.  Quinley Schlagbaum chipped in with seven points.

Pickerington Central coach Johnathan Hedgepeth started the following lineup: 5-10 So. Jocelyn Tate, 5-11 Sr. Maliya Perry, 6-0 Sr. Jada Tate, 5-6 Jr. Nicole Stephens, and 5-8 Sr. Madison Greene.  Cincinnati Mt. Notre Dame coach Dr. Scott Rogers countered with 5-10 Fr. KK Bransford, 5-10 So. Laila Phelia, 6-1 Sr. Julia Hoefling, 5-6 Jr. Makira Cook, and 5-9 Sr. Gabbie Marshall.

 

Cincinnati Mt. Notre Dame led Pickerington Central 32-29 after three quarters and outscored the Tigers 20-2 in the final quarter to earn a 52-31 victory.  Cincinnati Mt. Notre Dame shot 62.1% from the field including two of six from the three point line.  The Cougars connected on 14 of 19 free throws, pulled down 29 rebounds, and committed 11 turnovers.  Pickerington Central shot 25.5% from the field including three of 16 from beyond the arc.  The Tigers connected on two of three free throws, pulled down 24 rebounds, and committed six turnovers.

 

Julia Hoefling led Cincinnati Mt. Notre Dame with 14 points, five rebounds, and two blocked shots.  Gabbie Marshall added 11 points including two three point baskets, six rebounds, and two steals.  Laila Phelia recorded 10 points and seven rebounds.  KK Bransford added nine points and seven rebounds.  Makira Cook chipped in with eight points, three rebounds, and three assists.

 

Madison Greene led Pickerington Central with 10 points including two three point baskets and four steals.  Maliya Perry added eight points and four rebounds.
