Mayfield (Region 1) vs. Campbellsville (Region 5)

 

Mayfield coach Chris Guhy started the following lineup: 6-5 Sr. Carson Guthrie, 6-1 Sr. Desean Jones, 6-2 Jr. Kade Neely, 6-0 Sr. Kent Trey Matthews, and 6-3 Sr. Connor Guthrie.  Campbellsville coach Tim Davis countered with 6-0 Jr. Malachi Corley, 6-2 So. Arren Hash, 6-3 Jr. Noah Hughes, 6-0 Jr. Mikael Vaught, and 6-0 Sr. Nataj Sanders.

 

Mayfield defeated Campbellsville by a score of 70-43.  Mayfield shot 55.8% from the field including three of eight from the three point line.  The Cardinals connected on nine of 11 free throws, pulled down 44 rebounds, and scored 11 points off 13 Campbellsville turnovers.  Campbellsville shot 32.6% from the field including three of 18 from beyond the arc.  The Eagles connected on 10 of 22 free throws, pulled down 19 rebounds, and scored 11 points off 18 Mayfield turnovers. 

 

Connor Guthrie led Mayfield with 18 points including two three point baskets and four rebounds.  Carson Guthrie added 13 points, eight rebounds, five assists, and three steals.  Desean Jones recorded 12 points, seven rebounds, and two assists.  Kade Neely chipped in with 10 points, seven rebounds, and three assists.  Kent Trey Matthews added eight points, five rebounds, and five assists.

 

Malachi Corley led Campbellsville with 17 points, seven rebounds, two assists, and three steals.  Nataj Sanders added 12 points, two blocked shots, and two steals.

Lexington Christian County took a 14-4 lead after the first quarter on their way to a 56-48 victory over Owensboro Catholic.  LCA shot 55.9% from the field including seven of 15 from the three point line.  The Eagles connected on 11 of 13 free throws, pulled down 17 rebounds, and scored eight points off 10 Owensboro Catholic turnovers.  Owensboro Catholic shot 47.5% from the field including four of 14 from beyond the arc.  The Aces connected on six of seven free throws, pulled down 19 rebounds, and scored six points off 10 LCA turnovers.

 

Kyle Rode led LCA with 30 points including two three point baskets, eight of nine free throws, and nine rebounds.  Will Hacker added 14 points including four three point baskets and three steals.

 

John Parker led Owensboro Catholic with 21 points, six rebounds, two assists, and two steals.  Drew Hartz added nine points and P. Vincent recorded eight points and five rebounds.

Knott County Central defeated Middlesboro by a score of 57-45.  Knott County Central shot 40% from the field including two of nine from the three point line.  The Patriots connected on 27 of 33 free throws. pulled down 32 rebounds, and scored 10 points off six Middlesboro turnovers.  Middlesboro shot 25.5% from the field including eight of 24 from beyond the arc.  The Yellowjackets connected on 13 of 18 free throws, pulled down 30 rebounds, and scored two points off seven Knott County Central turnovers.

 

Khalil Slone led Knott County Central with 16 points including six of seven free throws and four rebounds.  6-6 So. Josh McGuire added 13 points including seven of seven free throws, eight rebounds, and three blocked shots.  Colby Napier recorded 10 points including two three point baskets.  Branson Couch added seven points and eight rebounds.

 

Scotty Overbay led Middlesboro with 12 points on four three point baskets.  Mykel Griffin added eight points and six rebounds.  Christian Hubbard also scored eight points and three rebounds.  Jabari Kyle recorded seven points on seven of eight free throws, six rebounds, and five assists.

Walton-Verona led by 23 points in the third quarter and weathered a rally by Louisville Holy Cross to earn a 46-39 victory.  Walton-Verona shot 48.4% from the field including two of five from the three point line.  The Bearcats connected on 14 of 30 free throws, pulled down 32 rebounds, and scored one point off seven Louisville Holy Cross turnovers.  Louisville Holy Cross shot 29.8% from the field including five of 13 from beyond the arc.  The Cougars connected on five of 13 free throws, pulled down 28 rebounds, and scored eight points off eight Walton-Verona turnovers.

 

Dieonte Miles led Walton-Verona with 26 points, six rebounds, and three blocked shots.  Kameron Pardee added 13 points and eight rebounds.

 

Jaren McDonald led Louisville Holy Cross with 12 points including two three point baskets.  Sam Bearden added nine points, eight rebounds, and two steals.  Keeton Thornsberry recorded six points and three rebounds.

Danville led 26-23 at halftime but a surge by Danville and an injury that slowed Elliott County’s Korbin Spencer allowed Danville to earn a 64-49 victory.  The score was tied six times and there were three lead changes in the game.  Danville shot 44.2% from the field including six of 16 from the three point line.  The Admirals connected on 12 of 20 free throws, pulled down 42 rebounds, and scored 18 points off 19 Elliott County turnovers.  Elliott County shot 37.8% from the field including eight of 16 from beyond the arc.  The Lions connected on seven of 10 free throws, pulled down 20 rebounds, and scored 11 points off 18 Danville turnovers.

 

Zach Thornton led Danville with 21 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, and six steals.  Dante Hayden added 15 points including two three point baskets, four rebounds, and four assists.  DeShaud St. Martin recorded eight points and nine rebounds. 

 

Gage Evans led Elliott County with 16 points including four three point baskets.  Tanner Dickerson added 15 points including three three point baskets and five rebounds.  Korbin Spencer recorded 11 points, six rebounds, three assists, and three steals.

Shelby Valley defeated Clinton County 66-63 in overtime.  The score was tied seven times and there were seven lead changes in the game.  Shelby Valley shot 48.8% from the field including 12 of 23 from the three point line.  The Wildcats connected on 12 of 22 free throws, pulled down 27 rebounds, and scored eight points off 11 Clinton County turnovers.  Clinton County shot 37.5% from the field including three of 14 from beyond the arc.  The Bulldogs connected on 18 of 27 free throws, pulled down 39 rebounds, and scored 20 points off 14 Shelby Valley turnovers.

 

Cody Potter led Shelby Valley with 34 points including nine three point baskets, 10 rebounds, and two assists.  Potter was nine of 14 from beyond the arc.  Cameron Worrix added 13 points including three three point baskets and four assists.  Orbie McPeek recorded seven points and seven rebounds.

 

Jackson Harlan led Clinton County with 28 points including three three point baskets, eight rebounds, and three steals.  Seth Stockton added 16 points and six rebounds.  Chase Stines recorded 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Tahj Harding led Newport with 17 points, 11 rebounds, three assists, and three blocked shots.  Makhi McGuire added 15 points, six rebounds, and two steals.  Donnie Miller recorded 14 points including two three point baskets, five rebounds, two assists, and two steals.  6-2 Jr. DaeShawn White added 11 points including two three point baskets, seven rebounds, and three assists.

KyKy Tandy led University Height with 28 points including seven three point baskets, five of five free throws, four rebounds, three assists, and three steals.  Drew McGowan added 16 points including two three point baskets, nine rebounds, and three assists.  Taquan Hollowell recorded nine points and six rebounds.

Lexington Christian Academy defeated Mayfield 62-50 to advance to the semifinals.  Lexington Christian Academy shot 53.1% from the field including eight of 15 from the three point line.  The Eagles connected on 20 of 27 free throws, pulled down 22 rebounds, and scored eight points off six Mayfield turnovers.  Mayfield shot 40% from the field including six of 19 from beyond the arc.  The Cardinals connected on eight of 12 free throws, pulled down 25 rebounds, and scored seven points off eight LCA turnovers.

 

Kyle Rode led LCA with 29 points including 13 of 16 free throws, 10 rebounds, and four assists.  Will Hacker added 12 points including three three point baskets.  Pearce Dalton recorded 12 points including three three point baskets and four steals.

Lexington Christian Academy outscored Walton-Verona 16-2 in the second quarter on their way to a 48-22 victory.  Walton-Verona was zero of seven from the field and was zero of 16 from beyond the arc for the team.  Lexington Christian Academy shot 47.2% from the field including five of nine from the three point line.  The Eagles connected on nine of 11 free throws, pulled down 27 rebounds, and scored 12 points off 10 Walton-Verona turnovers.  Walton-Verona shot 23.5% from the field.  The Bearcats connected on six of eight free throws, pulled down 20 rebounds, and scored five points off seven LCA turnovers. 

 

Kyle Rode led LCA with 22 points including seven of seven free throws, 13 rebounds, three assists, and two steals.  Will Hacker added 11 points including three three point baskets.

 

Garrett Jones led Walton-Verona with eight points and two steals.  Dieonte Miles added six points, two rebounds, and six blocked shots.

William Bryan, and 6-1 Sr. KyKy Tandy.  Shelby Valley coach Jim Hicks countered with 6-5 Jr. Cody Potter, 6-2 Sr. Samuel Stanley, 6-4 Sr. Orbie McPeek, 5-5 So. Keian Worrix, and 5-10 Sr. Cameron Worrix. 

 

University Height outscored Shelby Valley 17-5 in the final quarter to earn a 59-49 victory.   Shelby Valley led 38-28 at halftime but University Heights held the Wildcats to 11 points in the second half.  The score was tied three times and there were three lead changes in the game.  University Heights shot 37.8% from the field including five of 23 from the three point line.  The Blazers connected on 20 of 27 free throws, pulled down 28 rebounds, and scored 13 points off 12 Shelby Valley turnovers.  Shelby Valley shot 42.2% from the field including six of 13 from beyond the arc.  The Wildcats connected on five of six free throws, pulled down 29 rebounds, and scored five points off four University Heights turnovers.

 

KyKy Tandy led University Heights with 23 points including two three point baskets, 11 of 12 free throws, seven rebounds, and two steals.  Drew McGowan added 11 points including two three point baskets and six rebounds.  William Bryan recorded 11 points, five rebounds, two assists, and two steals.  Taquan Hollowell added seven points, seven rebounds. two blocked shots, and two steals.

 

Cody Potter led Shelby Valley with 25 points including six three point baskets and eight rebounds.  Cameron Worrix added nine points, six rebounds, and nine assists.

William Bryan, and 6-1 Sr. KyKy Tandy.  Lexington Christian Academy coach Nate Valentine countered with 6-2 Sr. Will Hacker, 6-1 Sr. Matthew Johnson, 6-7 Sr. Kyle Rode, 5-10 Sr. Baylor Brown, and 6-0 Sr. Pearce Dalton.

 

University Heights pulled away in the final quarter to defeat Lexington Christian Academy by a score of 52-40.  The score was tied five times and there were five lead changes in the game.  University Heights shot 47.5% from the field including six of 18 from the three point line.  The Blazers connected on eight of 11 free throws, pulled down 33 rebounds, and scored 10 points off seven LCA turnovers.  LCA shot 36.2% from the field including four of 16 from beyond the arc.  The Eagles connected on two of four free throws, pulled down 20 rebounds, and scored nine points off 13 University Heights turnovers.

 

Drew McGowan led University Heights with 15 points including three three point baskets, nine rebounds, three assists, and two steals.  KyKy Tandy added 14 points including two three point baskets, 10 rebounds, and two assists.  Taquan Hollowell recorded 14 points, seven rebounds, and two blocked shots.  DJ Quarles dished out six assists.
