Estill County (26-7) vs. Corbin (25-7)

 

Estill County coach Jon Bentley started the following lineup: 6-5 Sr. Lane Doty, 6-0 Sr. Caleb Bonny, 6-5 Sr. Andrew Doty, 5-5 Sr. Kevin Richardson, and 5-7 So. Joe Benton.  Corbin coach Tony Pietrowski countered with 6-4 Sr. Andrew Taylor, 6-3 So. Matthew Taylor, 6-3 Jr. Chase Sanders, 6-0 Jr. Brody Barton, and 6-0 Sr. Chandler Stewart.

 

Corbin defeated Estill County by a score of 50-40.  The score was tied 23-23 at halftime and there were four ties and four lead changes in the game.  Corbin shot 38.5% from the field including three of 14 from the three point line.  The Redhounds connected on seven of 12 free throws, pulled down 29 rebounds, and scored 21 points off 17 Estill County turnovers.  Estill County shot 51.9% from the field including four of 12 from beyond the arc.  Estill County attempted 25 less shots (52-27) from the field than Corbin.  The Engineers connected on eight of 12 free throws, pulled down 23 rebounds, and scored five points off seven Corbin turnovers.

 

Chandler Stewart led Corbin with 16 points, three rebounds, and three steals.  Andrew Taylor added 15 points, three rebounds, seven assists, and five steals.  Chase Sanders recorded 10 points, 11 rebounds, and four assists.

 

Caleb Bonny led Estill County with 14 points.  Andrew Doty added seven points, three rebounds, and three blocked shots.  Kevin Richardson recorded seven points and three steals.  Lane Doty chipped in with six points, three rebounds, and three blocked shots.  Joe Benton added six points on two three point baskets, three rebounds, and three assists.

Trinity (30-3) vs. Scott County (34-1)

 

Trinity coach Mike Szabo started the following lineup: 6-4 Jr. Stan Turnier, 6-3 Jr. Jamil Hardaway, 6-5 Jr. David Johnson, 5-5 Sr. Jay Scrubb, and 6-5 So. Justin Powell.  Scott County coach Billy Hicks countered with 6-2 Sr. Cooper Robb, 6-1 Jr. Bryce Long, 6-7 Jr. Michael Moreno, 5-9 Jr. Diablo Stewart, and 5-11 Jr. Glenn Covington.

 

Scott County defeated Trinity 54-53 in a game that Trinity led for 23:28 of the game but the last 21 seconds proved to be epic between these two titans of Kentucky round ball.  Scott County’s Glenn Covington nailed a three point basket at 20.4 seconds to tie the game at 51-51.  Scott County immediately fouled and Trinity’s Justin Powell connected on two free throws to give the Shamrocks a 53-51 lead.  Scott County called a timeout and Cooper Robb nailed a three point bomb from the corner at the 5.8 second mark to give Scott County a 54-53 lead but the game was not over.  Trinity had one last chance but Jay Scrubb missed a contested runner in the lane and time expired during the scramble for the rebound.  There were eight ties and four lead changes in this game.

 

Scott County shot 40.4% from the field including eight of 23 from the three point line.  The Cardinals connected on eight of 12 free throws, pulled down 21 rebounds, and scored 19 points off 14 Trinity turnovers.  Trinity shot 42.9% from the field including three of 15 from beyond the arc.  The Shamrocks connected on eight of 12 free throws, pulled down 37 rebounds, and scored 13 points off 10 Scott County turnovers.

 

Michael Moreno led Scott County with 24 points including two three point baskets and nine rebounds.  Cooper Robb added 12 points including two three point baskets, four rebounds, and three steals.  Glenn Covington recorded nine points off three three point baskets.  Diablo Stewart dished out six assists.

 

Jay Scrubb led Trinity with 16 points and eight rebounds.  David Johnson added 14 points, 10 rebounds, eight assists, and two steals.  Justin Powell recorded 13 points, four rebounds, and five assists.  Jamil Hardaway chipped in with six points and six rebounds.

Warren Central’s length and athleticism bothered Southwestern tonight as they scored 35 points off 20 Southwestern turnovers in a 68-44 victory.  Southwestern led by eight in the first quarter but Warren Central turned up the defensive pressure and led 36-23 at halftime.  Warren Central shot 55.8% from the field including 10 of 20 from the three point line.  The Dragons connected on 10 of 12 free throws and pulled down 21 rebounds.  Southwestern shot 42.9% from the field including two of nine from beyond the arc.  The Warriors connected on 12 of 14 free throws, pulled down 15 rebounds, and scored 16 points off 12 Warren Central turnovers.

 

Skyelar Potter led Warren Central with 23 points including six of seven free throws, eight rebounds, and two steals.  Jordan Cousin added 18 points including five three point baskets, eight rebounds, four assists, and three steals. 

 

Hunter Stevens led Southwestern with 17 points including eight of 10 free throws, three rebounds, and three assists.  Jonathon Gallagher added 14 points.

Pikeville defeated John Hardin by a score of 72-69 in three overtimes.  There were 12 ties and 17 lead changes in this game.  Pikeville shot 41% from the field including eight of 26 from the three point line.  The Panthers connected on 14 of 26 free throws, pulled down 30 rebounds, and scored 12 points off 17 John Hardin turnovers.  John Hardin shot 44.4% from the field including five of 14 from beyond the arc.  The Bulldogs connected on 16 of 26 free throws, pulled down 43 rebounds, and scored 10 points off nine Pikeville turnovers.

 

Wyatt Battaile led Pikeville with 30 points including five three point baskets, seven rebounds, and four assists.  Connor Roberts added 14 points and six rebounds.  5-10 Sr. Evan Rhodes recorded 11 points including six of seven free throws.  Kyle Watkins dished out nine assists.

 

Malik Wright led John Hardin with 19 points and 10 rebounds.  Mickey Pearson added 18 points including two three point baskets, eight of 10 free throws, eight rebounds, and four blocked shots.  Aaron Scott recorded 15 points including three three point baskets and six rebounds.  Jachai Walker chipped in with 10 points, four rebounds, and seven assists.

Campbell County pulled away in the second half to defeat University Heights by a score of 82-65.  The score was tied twice and there were seven lead changes in the game.  Campbell County shot 50.9% from the field including four of nine from the three point line.  The Camels connected on 24 of 34 free throws, pulled down 39 rebounds, and scored four points off eight University Heights turnovers.  University Heights shot 40.3% from the field including six of 18 from beyond the arc.  The Blazers connected on nine of 13 free throws, pulled down 30 rebounds, and scored nine points off eight Campbell County turnovers.

 

Joel Day led Campbell County with 23 points including two three point baskets, nine of 12 free throws, six rebounds, and seven assists.  Tanner Clos added 21 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists.  Reid Jolly recorded 20 points and nine rebounds.  Drew Wilson chipped in with 11 points and four rebounds.

 

KyKy Tandy led University Heights with 31 points including three three point baskets, six of six free throws.  Tacquan Hollowell added 11 points, eight rebounds, and four blocked shots.  Malik Lovan recorded 11 points and seven rebounds.

Fern Creek defeated Boyd County 69-67 in overtime.  Fern Creek led 36-26 at halftime but Boyd County rallied to force overtime.  Fern Creek shot 46% from the field including four of 15 from the three point line.  The Tigers connected on 11 of 17 free throws, pulled down 37 rebounds, and committed 13 turnovers.  Boyd County shot 45.2% from the field including 10 of 18 from beyond the arc.  The Lions connected on 19 of 28 free throws, pulled down 24 rebounds, and committed 15 turnovers.

 

Ahmad Price led Fern Creek with 25 points and six rebounds.  Anthony Wales added 13 points, four rebounds, and three assists.  Clint Wickliffe recorded 12 points, 12 rebounds, and four assists.

 

Blake Stewart led Boyd County with 22 points including three three point baskets, seven of 11 free throws, six rebounds, three assists, and four steals.  Gunner Short added 15 points including six of nine free throws, and three rebounds.  Taylor Smith recorded 10 points including two three point baskets.  Talbott Taylor chipped in with 10 points including two three point baskets and three rebounds.  Reese Robinson added five points, eight rebounds, and three steals.

McCracken County led by 11 in the third quarter but Oldham County rallied for a 65-58 victory.  The score was tied 10 times and there were seven lead changes in the game.  Oldham County shot 47.9% from the field including four of 15 from the three point line.  The Colonels connected on 15 of 19 free throws, pulled down 23 rebounds, and scored 26 points off 17 McCracken County turnovers.  McCracken County shot 56.8% from the field including nine of 14 from beyond the arc.  The Mustangs connected on seven of nine free throws, pulled down 22 rebounds, and scored 13 points off 11 Oldham County turnovers.

 

Zach Larimore led Oldham County with 20 points including six of seven free throws and four rebounds.  Travis Henderson added 18 points including two three point baskets, seven rebounds, and three steals.  Jackson Gibson recorded 14 points, three rebounds, three assists, and three steals.  Andre Brewer chipped in with nine points, four rebounds, six assists, and three steals.

Glenn Covington led Scott County with 20 points including five three point baskets.  Bryce Long added 18 points including five of five free throws, five rebounds, and three assists.  Michael Moreno recorded 11 points, 11 rebounds, and five blocked shots.  Cooper Robb chipped in with 11 points, five rebounds, four assists, and three steals.

Warren Central raced out to a 23-11 first quarter lead on their way to a 74-57 victory over Pikeville.  Warren Central shot a sizzling 65.9% from the field including eight of 17 from the three point line.  The Dragons connected on eight of 15 free throws, pulled down 27 rebounds, and scored 10 points off 13 Pikeville turnovers.  Pikeville shot 44% from the field including eight of 22 from beyond the arc.  The Panthers connected on five of 13 free throws, pulled down 21 rebounds, and scored 11 points off 13 Warren Central turnovers.

 

Jordan Cousin led Warren Central with 23 points including three three point baskets, three rebounds, and six assists.  Skyelar Potter added 14 points including two three point baskets, 14 rebounds, and four assists.  Tayshaun Bibb recorded eight points and three assists.

Travis Henderson hit a three point basket with 1.9 seconds remaining in the game to give Oldham County a 56-55 victory over Campbell County.  The score was tied twice and there were two lead changes in the game.  Campbell County led by 11 points late in the third quarter but Oldham County rallied for the victory.

 

Oldham County shot 48.9% from the field including three of 10 from the three point line.  The Colonels connected on nine of 18 free throws, pulled down 23 rebounds, and scored 15 points off 15 Campbell County turnovers.  Campbell County shot 52.4% from the field including four of nine from beyond the arc.  The Camels connected on seven of 15 free throws, pulled down 27 rebounds, and scored 15 points off 14 Oldham County turnovers.

CJ Fredrick led Covington Catholic with 32 points including two three point baskets, 10 of 11 free throws.  Aiden Ruthsatz added 10 points including eight of nine free throws.  AJ Mayer recorded nine points, four rebounds, and three assists.  Jake Walter chipped in with eight points, four rebounds, and three blocked shots.

Warren Central vs. Scott County (Semifinal)

 

Warren Central coach William Unseld started the following lineup: 6-4 Sr. Skyelar Potter, 6-3 Sr. Micale Mee, 6-7 Sr. Jordan Cousin, 5-8 Jr. Jamale Barber, and 6-2 Jr. Tayshaun Bibb.  Scott County coach Billy Hicks countered with 6-2 Sr. Cooper Robb, 6-1 Jr. Bryce Long, 6-7 Jr. Michael Moreno, 5-9 Jr. Diablo Stewart, and 5-11 Jr. Glenn Covington. 

 

Scott County took control of the game early on their way to a 75-46 victory over Warren Central.  Scott County shot 58.8% from the field including eight of 17 from the three point line.  The Cardinals connected on seven of 12 free throws, pulled down 31 rebounds, and scored 20 points off 13 Warren Central turnovers.  Warren Central shot 30% from the field including six of 23 from beyond the arc.  The Dragons connected on 10 of 12 free throws, pulled down 28 rebounds, and scored nine points off 10 Scott County turnovers.

 

Michael Moreno led Scott County with 15 points, eight rebounds, five assists, and four blocked shots.  Glenn Covington added 13 points including three three point baskets and seven rebounds.  Diablo Stewart recorded 11 points, three rebounds, and three assists.  Bryce Long added nine points and Cooper Robb dished out seven assists.

 

Skyelar Potter led Warren Central with 20 points including three three point baskets, seven rebounds, and two blocked shots.  Jordan Cousin added 17 points including three three point baskets and five rebounds.

Covington Catholic defeated Oldham County by a score of 67-28.  Covington Catholic shot 67.6% from the field including four of eight from the three point line.  The Colonels connected on 13 of 19 free throws, pulled down 28 rebounds, and scored 29 points off 19 Oldham County turnovers.  Oldham County shot 27.8% from the field including zero of 11 from beyond the arc.  The Colonels connected on eight of 10 free throws, pulled down 28 rebounds, and scored six points off 16 Covington Catholic turnovers.

 

CJ Fredrick led Covington Catholic with 22 points including five of five free throws, , three assists, and three steals.  Jake Walter added 10 points and four rebounds.  AJ Mayer recorded seven points, nine rebounds, five assists, and two steals.

 

Christian Harper led Oldham County with eight points and three rebounds.

Covington completed their impressive tournament run with a 73-55 victory over Scott County and the tournament championship.  The score was tied once and there were six lead changes in the game.  Covington Catholic shot 63.6% from the field including six of 11 from the three point line.  The Colonels connected on 25 of 32 free throws, pulled down 28 rebounds, and scored 11 points off nine Scott County turnovers.  Scott County shot 36% from the field including seven of 24 from beyond the arc.  The Cardinals connected on 12 of 18 free throws, pulled down 22 rebounds, and scored 16 points off 11 Covington Catholic turnovers.  Scott County held a 19-3 advantage on second chance points.

 

CJ Fredrick led Covington Catholic with 32 points including four three point baskets, 10 of 11 free throws, and three assists.  Aiden Ruthsatz added 16 points including five of five free throws, and five assists.  AJ Mayer recorded 12 points and eight rebounds.

 

Cooper Robb led Scott County with 22 points including four three point baskets, six of eight free throws and four rebounds.  Michael Moreno added 21 points and eight rebounds.  Diablo Stewart recorded 10 points including three three point baskets.
