Madison Southern vs. Scott County (Girls)

 

Madison Southern coach Summer Simmons started the following lineup: 5-6 Sr. Paige Carter, 5-3 So. Aleigh Richardson, 5-8 Jr. Zaria Carter, 5-1 So. Sunni Walters, and 5-3 Fr. Samantha Cornelison.  Scott County coach Steve Helton countered with 5-10 Jr. Maaliya Owens, 5-10 Sr. Peyton Riddle, 5-10 Sr. Zakiyia Holt, 5-5 Jr. Juliette Smith, and 5-5 So. Morgan DeFoor.

 

Scott County raced out to an early lead and was never threatened on their way to an 84-45 victory.  Scott County shot 52.9% from the field including four of 12 from the three point line.  The Cardinals connected on six of 13 free throws, pulled down 39 rebounds, and scored 36 points off 28 Madison Southern turnovers.  Madison Southern shot 25% from the field including five of 21 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Eagles connected on 18 of 22 free throws, pulled down 33 rebounds, and scored nine points off 11 Scott County turnovers.

 

Peyton Riddle led Scott County with 18 points, five rebounds, four assists, and three steals in 19 minutes of action.  Morgan DeFoor added 16 points, eight rebounds, and two steals in only 13 minutes.  Maaliya Owens recorded 12 points including two three point baskets and five assists.  6-2 So. Malea Williams added eight points, 10 rebounds, and four blocked shots.

 

Samantha Cornelison led Madison Southern with 12 points, seven rebounds, and three assists.  Paige Carter, Sunni Walters, and Aleigh Richardson each scored six points.

Woodford County vs. Paul Laurence Dunbar (Girls)

 

Woodford County coach Steve Jaco started the following lineup: 5-10 Jr. Nia Jaco, 5-7 So. Abby Moffett, 6-0 So. Delaney Enlow, 5-4 Sr. Peyton Rose, and 5-6 So. Abbie Hudson.  Paul Laurence Dunbar coach Nick Runyon countered with 5-8 Sr. Peyton Humphreys, 5-7 Sr. Anaiyah Cotton, 6-0 Fr. Elise Ellison-Coons, 5-5 Sr. Mashayla Cecil, and 5-7 Jr. Cheyenne Fullwood.

 

Paul Laurence Dunbar captured a 53-51 come-from-behind victory over Woodford County.  Woodford County led 51-48 with a little more than a minute left on the clock but Mashayla Cecil scored on a steal and a layup and later added two free throws to fuel the victory.  The score was tied nine times and seven lead changes in this game. 

 

Paul Laurence Dunbar shot 32.3% from the field including five of 13 from the three point line.  The Lady Bulldogs connected on eight of 11 free throws, pulled down 29 rebounds, and scored 19 points off 20 Woodford County turnovers.  Woodford County shot 54.5% from the field including one of eight from beyond the arc.  The Lady Yellow Jackets connected on six of 12 free throws, pulled down 39 rebounds, and scored five points off three Dunbar turnovers.

 

Elise Ellison-Coons led Dunbar with 18 points, four rebounds, three assists, and two steals.  Cheyenne Fullwood added 15 points including three three point baskets and four steals.  Mashayla Cecil recorded 11 points, four assists, and four steals.  Peyton Humphreys chipped in with six points and eight rebounds.

 

Delaney Enlow led Woodford County with 24 points, 17 rebounds, and three blocked shots.  Enlow was 12 of 14 from the field.  Abbie Hudson added eight points and six assists.  Nia Jaco recorded six points and nine rebounds.  Abby Moffett chipped in with six points, three rebounds, five assists, and two steals.

Henry Clay vs. Franklin County (Girls)

 

Henry Clay coach Eric Sanford started the following lineup: 5-8 Sr. Braxton Price, 5-8 Sr. Cheyenne Jones, 5-10 Sr. Orionna Woods, 5-4 Sr. Alexis Lutz, and 5-7 Jr. Kiya Thompson.  Franklin County coach Joey Thacker countered with 5-8 Sr. Josie Thacker, 5-5 Sr. Emily Jordan, 5-10 8th Grade Patience Laster, 5-4 Jr. Julia Welsh, and 5-6 Sr. Kindall Talley.

 

Franklin County defeated Henry Clay by a score of 52-47 despite attempting 23 less shots (61-38) from the field than Henry Clay.  Franklin County shot 47.4% from the field including four of 12 from the three point line.  The Lady Flyers connected on 12 of 19 free throws, pulled down 34 rebounds, and scored three points off four Henry Clay turnovers.  Henry Clay shot 31.1% from the field including two of 14 from beyond the arc.  The Blue Devils connected on seven of 14 free throws, pulled down 36 rebounds, and scored 12 points off 13 Franklin County turnovers.

 

Kindall Talley led Franklin County with 20 points, eight rebounds, and three assists.  Talley was seven of eight from the field including zero of one from beyond the arc, and six of eight free throws.  Patience Laster added nine points, eight rebounds, and two blocked shots.  Josie Thacker recorded six points on two three point baskets and five rebounds.  Emily Jordan chipped in with five points, two rebounds, and six assists.

 

Orionna Woods led Henry Clay with 17 points and 10 rebounds.  Kiya Thompson added 11 points.  Cheyenne Jones recorded nine points, 17 rebounds, three assists, and two steals.  Braxton Price chipped in with seven points and two assists.

Lafayette raced out to a 24-2 first quarter lead and Madison Central could not recover from the deficit in a 68-48 decision.  Madison Central was zero of 13 from the field in the first quarter.   Lafayette shot 44.4% from the field including five of 14 from the three point line.  The Lady Generals connected on 15 of 19 free throws, pulled down 40 rebounds, and scored 19 points off 19 Madison Central turnovers.  Madison Central shot 27.8% from the field including five of 18 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Indians connected on 13 of 20 free throws, pulled down 37 rebounds, and scored 21 points off 18 Lafayette turnovers.

 

Caroline Bennett led Lafayette with 18 points including four three point baskets, eight rebounds, and two assists.  Terri Abram added 16 points and six rebounds.  Lindi DeBilzan recorded 15 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, three blocked shots, and seven steals. 

 

Bailee Vanover led Madison Central with 14 points including two three point baskets, six rebounds, four assists, and two steals.  Madison Barnard added 11 points including two three point baskets.  Taleya Todd recorded 10 points, five rebounds, and two steals.  Je’Kauri McKeithen pulled down seven rebounds and blocked three shots.

Frankfort coach Nick Barton started the following lineup: 6-0 Sr. Nate Cox, 5-11 Jr. DaJuan Davis, 6-6 Jr. John Tillman, 5-8 Jr. Jevon Bush, and 5-9 Sr. Cody Carter.  Lexington Christian Academy coach Nate Valentine countered with 6-7 Sr. Carter Hendricksen, 6-7 Jr. Kyle Rode, 6-6 Sr. Austin Hall, 6-0 Jr. Pearce Dalton, and 6-2 Jr. Will Hacker.

 

Lexington Christian Academy held a 30-3 advantage on three point points in an 88-58 victory over Frankfort.  LCA shot 49.2% from the field including 10 of 19 from the three point line.  The Eagles connected on 18 of 24 free throws, pulled down 48 rebounds, and scored 22 points off 15 Frankfort turnovers.  Frankfort shot 35.8% from the field including one of 20 from beyond the arc.  The Panthers connected on nine of 17 free throws, pulled down 33 rebounds, and scored 16 points off 16 LCA turnovers.

 

Will Hacker led LCA with 25 points including seven three point baskets and five rebounds.  Hacker was eight of 10 from the field including seven of nine from beyond the arc, and two of two free throws.  Kyle Rode added 19 points, 15 rebounds, seven assists, and four steals.  Austin Hall recorded 18 points including three three point baskets, five rebounds, two assists, four blocked shots, and two steals.  Carter Hendricksen chipped in with 16 points, 11 rebounds, and five assists.

 

Cody Carter led Frankfort with 14 points, four rebounds, and three assists.  Jevon Bush added 12 points, three rebounds, and three steals.  5-9 Jr. Juanya Frank recorded 12 points, three rebounds, three assists, and two steals.  John Tillman added 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Madison Central defeated Bryan Station 73-64 in a three overtime classic.  The score was tied 15 times and there were 11 lead changes.  Isaiah Cozart was a force in the paint as he recorded several blocks in the overtime periods when it looked like Bryan Station would pull out the victory.  Madison Central shot 54.5% from the field including four of five from beyond the arc.  Madison Central attempted 25 less shots (69-44) from the field than Bryan Station.  The Indians connected on 21 of 28 free throws, pulled down 37 rebounds, and scored 14 points off eight Bryan Station turnovers.  Bryan Station shot 30.4% from the field including nine of 24 from beyond the arc.  The Defenders connected on 13 of 17 free throws, pulled down 39 rebounds, and scored 21 points off 17 Madison Central turnovers. 

 

Isaiah Minter led Madison Central with 31 points including 17 of 22 free throws, four rebounds, five assists, and two steals.  Dustin Geralds added 28 points including three three point baskets, 12 rebounds, and three assists.  Isaiah Cozart recorded eight points, 16 rebounds, and 11 blocked shots.

Scott County raced out to a 38-3 first quarter lead on their way to a 114-37 victory over Madison Southern.  Scott County shot 59.7% from the field including 17 of 29 from the three point line.  The Cardinals connected on five of eight free throws, pulled down 37 rebounds, and scored 48 points off 28 Madison Southern turnovers.  Madison Southern shot 33.3% from the field including three of 16 from beyond the arc.  The Eagles connected on eight of 13 free throws, pulled down 24 rebounds, and scored two points off four Scott County turnovers.

 

Michael Moreno led Scott County with 29 points including two three point baskets and eight rebounds in 16 minutes.  6-3 So. Terrin Hamilton added 16 points including four three point baskets.  Glenn Covington recorded 13 points including three three point baskets, five rebounds, six assists, and four steals.  Diablo Stewart chipped in with 12 points and four assists.  5-8 Jr. Cam Fluker added 11 points including three three point baskets and five assists.  Cooper Robb recorded seven points, six rebounds, six rebounds, eight assists, and five steals.  Bryce Long added eight points, three assists, and four steals.

Cameron King led Lafayette with 15 points including three three point baskets, three rebounds, and two assists.  6-1 Sr. Devontae Hayes added 13 points and five rebounds.  Ray Surratt recorded seven points and five rebounds.  Eric Powell chipped in with seven points and four rebounds.  6-2 Jr. TeAndre Newcomb pulled down seven rebounds.

Patience Laster scored on a rebound put back with less than 10 seconds left on the clock to give Franklin County a 46-45 victory over Lafayette.  Franklin County shot 40.5% from the field including four of 13 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Flyers connected on eight of 12 free throws, pulled down 33 rebounds, and scored nine points off 14 Lafayette turnovers.  Lafayette shot 34.8% from the field including five of 11 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Generals connected on eight of 11 free throws, pulled down 27 rebounds, and scored 16 points off 21 Franklin County turnovers.

 

Patience Laster led Franklin County with 15 points and 10 rebounds.  Kindall Talley added 10 points, three rebounds, three assists, and five steals.  Josie Thacker recorded eight points including two three point baskets.  5-3 8th Grade Nevaeh Carter chipped in with six points, six rebounds, two assists, and two steals.

Lafayette coach Mike Mendenhall III started the following lineup: 6-3 Sr. Eric Powell, 6-1 Sr. Cameron King, 6-9 So. Ray Surratt, 5-10 Jr. Evan Dreux, and 5-11 Sr. Fousseyni Diallo.  Scott County coach Billy Hicks countered with 6-2 Sr. Cooper Robb, 6-1 Jr. Bryce Long, 6-7 Jr. Michael Moreno, 5-9 Jr. Diablo Stewart, and 5-11 Jr. Glenn Covington.

 

Scott County raced out to a 25-8 first quarter lead on their way to a 79-43 victory as the Generals could never get untracked tonight.  Scott County shot 52.7% from the field including seven of 20 from the three point line.  The Cardinals connected on 14 of 15 free throws, pulled down 45 rebounds, and scored 24 points off 18 Lafayette turnovers.  Lafayette shot 30.6% from the field including seven of 20 from beyond the arc.  The Generals connected on six of 16 free throws, pulled down 21 rebounds, and scored 15 points off 19 Scott County turnovers. 

 

Michael Moreno led Scott County with 22 points including eight of eight free throws, 10 rebounds, three assists, three blocked shots, and four steals.  Cooper Robb added 14 points including two three point baskets, six rebounds, and two steals.  Diablo Stewart recorded 14 points including two three point baskets, six rebounds, eight assists, and two steals.

 

Ray Surratt led Lafayette with nine points and four rebounds.  6-2 Jr. TeAndre Newcomb added seven points.

Franklin County vs. Scott County (Girls) (Championship)

 

Franklin County coach Joey Thacker countered with 5-8 Sr. Josie Thacker, 5-5 Sr. Emily Jordan, 5-10 8th Grade Patience Laster, 5-4 Jr. Julia Welsh, and 5-6 Sr. Kindall Talley.  Scott County coach Steve Helton countered with 5-10 Jr. Maaliya Owens, 5-10 Sr. Peyton Riddle, 5-10 Sr. Zakiyia Holt, 5-5 Jr. Juliette Smith, and 5-5 So. Morgan DeFoor.

 

Tonight marked the end of an era as Scott County defeated Franklin County by a score of 77-54.  Franklin County seniors Josie Thacker, Kindall Talley, Emily Jordan, and Olivia Hogan (who missed the season with an ACL tear) had been runner-up in the state tourney the last two seasons and was decimated by graduation losses, one knee injury, and a key player not playing basketball this season battled their way back and melded with some talented young players to make another deep tournament run.  Tonight was Scott County’ s turn as the talented high octane offense proved to be too much for the Lady Flyers tonight.

 

Scott County shot 45.9% from the field including five of 16 from the three point line.  The Lady Cardinals connected on 16 of 19 free throws, pulled down 38 rebounds, and scored 20 points off 10 Franklin County turnovers.  Franklin County shot 33.9% from the field including three of 17 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Flyers connected on 13 of 24 free throws, pulled down 39 rebounds, and scored seven points off six Scott County turnovers.

 

Peyton Riddle led Scott County with 20 points including two three point baskets, nine rebounds, and three assists.  Maaliya Owens added 14 points, six rebounds, and six assists.  Morgan DeFoor recorded 13 points, four rebounds, three assists, and four steals.  Juliette Smith chipped in with 13 points including two three point baskets.  6-2 So. Malea Williams added six points, six rebounds, and three blocked shots.

 

Kindall Talley led Franklin County with 16 points including six of six free throws, three rebounds, and three assists.  Emily Jordan added 12 points and six rebounds.  Patience Laster recorded seven points and 11 rebounds.  Julia Welsh added nine points on three three point baskets.

Scott County vs. Lexington Christian Academy (Boys) (Championship)

 

Scott County coach Billy Hicks started the following lineup: 6-2 Sr. Cooper Robb, 6-1 Jr. Bryce Long, 6-7 Jr. Michael Moreno, 5-9 Jr. Diablo Stewart, and 5-11 Jr. Glenn Covington.  Lexington Christian Academy coach Nate Valentine countered with 6-7 Sr. Carter Hendricksen, 6-7 Jr. Kyle Rode, 6-6 Sr. Austin Hall, 6-0 Jr. Pearce Dalton, and 6-2 Jr. Will Hacker.

 

Cooper Robb hit two free throws with 10 seconds left on the clock to give Scott County a 46-44 lead and Scott County escaped with a victory when LCA’s Will Hacker’s good look at a potential game winning three pointer bounced off the rim in the closing seconds.  There were eight ties and eight lead changes in the game and the game was punctuated by tenacious defense.  LCA caught a tough break when Carter Hendricksen left the game not to return with 6:27 remaining in the third quarter and LCA clinging to a 26-23 lead.

 

Scott County shot 35.3% from the field including three of 21 from the three point line.  The Cardinals connected on seven of 10 free throws, pulled down 26 rebounds, and scored 11 points off 19 LCA turnovers.  LCA shot 41.2% from the field including three of 14 from beyond the arc.  The Eagles connected on 13 of 15 free throws, pulled down 29 rebounds, and scored seven points off nine Scott County turnovers.

 

Michael Moreno led Scott County with 21 points including two three point baskets, eight rebounds, and seven steals.  Cooper Robb added 15 points.  Glenn Covington only scored one point put pulled down seven rebounds, dished out four assists, and recorded three steals.

 

Kyle Rode led LCA with 18 points including seven of eight free throws, eight rebounds, and three assists.  Carter Hendricksen added 11 points and four rebounds.  Austin Hall recorded five points, eight rebounds, four assists, and two blocked shots.
