Butler (32-2) vs. Sacred Heart Academy (29-5)

 

Butler coach Larry Just started the following lineup: 5-10 Sr. Jaelynn Penn, 5-8 Sr. Fontasia Jeffries, 6-3 Jr. Molly Lockhart, 5-4 Sr. Breia Torrens, and 5-6 Sr. Teri Goodlett.  Sacred Heart Academy coach Donna Moir countered with 5-11 Jr. Grace Berger, 5-7 Jr. Kia Sivils, 6-0 Fr. Kristen Clemons, 5-6 So. Ashlee Harris, and 5-7 Jr. Kiki Samsel.

 

Butler outscored Sacred Heart 17-5 in the third quarter on their way to a 50-36 victory over Sacred Heart.  Butler only led 25-24 at halftime but broke open the game in the third quarter connecting on seven of 13 from the field while Sacred Heart could only manage one of seven from the field during this period.  The score was tied three times and there were four lead changes in this game.

 

Butler shot 42.9% from the field including three of eight from the three point line.  The Bearettes connected on five of six free throws, pulled down 30 rebounds, and scored 17 points off 15 Sacred Heart turnovers.  Sacred Heart shot 24.3% from the field including two of seven from beyond the arc.  The Valkyries connected on 16 of 20 free throws, pulled down 27 rebounds, and scored eight points off 12 Butler turnovers.

 

Jaelynn Penn led Butler with 15 points and six rebounds.  Fontasia Jeffries added 10 points, five rebounds, and seven assists.  5-9 Sr. Janna Lewis recorded seven points and nine rebounds.  Breia Torrens also scored seven points,

 

Grace Berger led Sacred Heart Academy with 13 points including seven of eight free throws, 10 rebounds, and three steals.  Kiki Samsel added eight points including two three point baskets.

Nelson County coach Jacqueline Coleman started the following lineup: 5-6 Sr. Le Le Linton, 5-4 Sr. Shyla Calbert, 5-9 Sr. Kia Harman, 4-10 So. Murray dominated the game as they rolled to a 71-30 victory over Nelson County.  Murray shot 48.2% from the field including eight of 19 from the three point line.  The Lady Tigers connected on nine of 14 free throws, pulled down 42 rebounds, and scored 17 points off 11 Nelson County turnovers.  Nelson County shot 23.4% from the field including zero of 17 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Cardinals connected on eight of 12 free throws, pulled down 27 rebounds, and scored nine points off seven Murray turnovers.

 

Macey Turley led a balanced Murray scoring attack with 19 points including three three point baskets, six rebounds, and five assists.  Maddie Waldrop added 17 points, 12 rebounds, and two blocked shots.  Alexis Burpo recorded 12 points, 12 rebounds, and three steals.  Alexandria Mayes chipped in with 11 points including three three point baskets.

 

Marly Walls led Nelson County with 16 points and eight rebounds.  Kira Harman added six points and four rebounds.

Boyd County trailed 27-26 at halftime but Mercer County unleashed a barrage of three point baskets (10 of 13) in the second half to pull away for a 78-50 victory.  Mercer County shot 55.1% from the field including 14 of 28 from the three point line.  The titans connected on 10 of 12 free throws, pulled down 33 rebounds, and scored 13 points off 13 Boyd County turnovers.  Boyd County shot 34% from the field including eight of 25 from beyond the arc.  They connected on 10 of 14 free throws, pulled down 23 rebounds, and scored 16 points off 16 Mercer County turnovers.

 

Seygan Robins led Mercer County with 25 points including five three point baskets, four rebounds, eight assists, and two blocked shots.  Emma Souder added 18 points and 10 rebounds.  Lexy Lake recorded 12 points on four three point baskets.  Faith Lake chipped in with nine points, five rebounds, and three assists.

 

Savannah Wheeler led Boyd County with 22 points including four three point baskets and four assists.  Charity Shears added 10 points including two three point baskets and four assists.  Alexis Lunsford recorded nine points and five rebounds.

George Rogers Clark outscored Harlan 19-8 in the third quarter to take control in an 81-63 victory.  George Rogers Clark shot 54.5% from the field including four of 11 from the three point line.  The Lady Cardinals connected on 29 of 34 free throws, pulled down 35 rebounds, and scored 16 points off 11 Harlan turnovers.  Harlan shot 43.6% from the field including 11 of 24 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Dragons connected on four of four free throws, pulled down 20 rebounds, and scored 13 points off 12 GRC turnovers.  Jordan Brock, Noah Canady, and Taylor Simpson all fouled out for Harlan.

 

Shemaya Behanan led GRC with 25 points including nine of 10 free throws and nine rebounds.  Maleaha Bell added 16 points including two three point baskets and eight rebounds.  Hayley Harrison recorded 16 points, seven rebounds, two blocked shots, and three steals.  5-8 So. Jasmine Flowers chipped in with 16 points including eight of 10 free throws.

 

Jordan Brock led Harlan with 38 points including six three point baskets and three assists.  MacKenzie King added 16 points including two three point baskets and five rebounds.

Henderson County parlayed a 25-16 advantage in the third quarter into a 63-53 victory over Knott County Central.  Henderson County took advantage of 27 Knott County Central turnovers that they converted to 37 points.  Henderson County shot 51% from the field including three of 12 from the three point line.  The Lady Colonels connected on eight of 12 free throws, pulled down 15 rebounds, and held an 18-4 advantage in bench scoring.  Knott County Central shot 42.5% from the field including one of seven from beyond the arc.  The Lady Patriots connected on 18 of 20 free throws, pulled down 34 rebounds, and scored four points off 10 Henderson County turnovers.

 

5-5 Fr. Emilee Hope came off the bench to lead Henderson County with 18 points including two three point baskets and three steals.  Alyssa Dickson also scored 18 points and four rebounds.

 

Allie O’Hair led Knott County Central with 12 points and 10 rebounds.  Jada Higgins added 12 points, five rebounds, and six assists.  Alexis Slone recorded 12 points and five rebounds.  Kristen Waugh chipped in with 11 points.

Franklin County (30-5) vs. Russell County (26-8)

Franklin County defeated Russell County 72-67 in a three overtime marathon.  There were nine ties and nine lead changes in this game.  Franklin County led by 12 points in the third quarter.  Russell County took a late 51-50 lead in regulation but Rebecca Cook connected on one of two free throws with nine seconds remaining to tie the score at 51-51 to force overtime. Russell County led 57-55 late in the first overtime but Franklin County’s Princess Stewart hit a layup with six seconds left to tie the game at 57-57 and force the second overtime.  Russell County took a 64-62 lead in the second overtime but Princess Stewart nailed a jump shot with 30 seconds left to tie the score at 64-64.  Franklin County got a steal but Savannah Courtney missed a three point shot for the win with four seconds on the clock and the game continued into the third overtime.  Kindall Talley hit four free throws down the stretch to ensure a 72-67 Franklin County victory.  Talley scored seven of eight Franklin County’s eight points in the final overtime.

 

Franklin County shot 41.5% from the field including 10 of 28 from the three point line.  The Lady Flyers connected on 18 of 30 free throws, pulled down 29 rebounds, and scored 18 points off 22 Russell County turnovers.  Russell County shot 46.8% from the field including three of 10 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Lakers connected on 20 of 31 free throws, pulled down 40 rebounds, and scored 21 points off 16 Franklin County turnovers.

 

Princess Stewart led Franklin County with 20 points, nine rebounds, four assists, two blocked shots, and two steals.  Kindall Talley also scored 20 points including four three points, five rebounds, four assists, and three steals.  Savannah Courtney recorded 10 points and three rebounds.  Rebecca Cook chipped in with nine points, four rebounds, and three steals.  Brooklynn Miles added seven points and six assists.

 

Kaitlyn Coffey led Russell County with 21 points, nine rebounds, six assists, and four steals. Addison Loy added 16 points including two three point baskets, six rebounds, and three assists.  Amelia Ackerman chipped in wit 10 points.  Madelyn Preston recorded nine points and seven rebounds.  LaShaya Carman added seven points, 10 rebounds, and two blocked shots.

The score was tied 26-26 at halftime but Simon Kenton outscored Paintsville 44-19 in the second half to earn a 70-45 victory.  Simon Kenton shot 61% from the field including five of 13 from the three point line.  The Lady Pioneers connected on 15 of 20 from the free throw line, pulled down 33 rebounds, and scored 15 points off 10 Paintsville turnovers.  Paintsville shot 33.3% from the field including two of seven from beyond the arc.  The Lady Tigers connected on 13 of 21 free throws, pulled down 17 rebounds, and scored 10 points off 15 Simon Kenton turnovers.

 

Allyson Neace led Simon Kenton with 29 points including 13 of 14 free throws, six rebounds, and six assists.  Madi Meier added 10 points and 10 rebounds.  Bailee Harney recorded nine points, four rebounds, and four assists.  5-6 Fr. Maggi Jones chipped in with nine points.

Holmes defeated Grayson County by a score of 45-32.  Holmes shot 48.4% from the field including four of 14 from the three point line.  They connected on 11 of 17 free throws, pulled down 22 rebounds, and scored seven points off 12 Grayson County turnovers.  Grayson County shot 31.7% from the field including one of 16 from beyond the arc.  They connected on five of seven free throws, pulled down 28 rebounds, and scored eight points off eight Holmes turnovers.

 

Laila Johnson led Holmes with 14 points.  Kamari Graham added nine points on three three point baskets.  Tyrah McClendon-Englemon chipped in with eight points, five rebounds, and three assists.  Jaynice Stovall recorded eight points, five rebounds, and four assists.

Murray raced out to a 16-8 first quarter lead and took advantage of Butler’s foul woes to earn a 65-56 upset victory over the Bearettes.  Murray shot 48.6% from the field including four of 10 from the three point line.  Murray attempted 19 less shots (54-35) from the field than Butler.  The Lady Tigers connected on 27 of 35 free throws, pulled down 30 rebounds, and scored 20 points off 17 Butler turnovers.  Butler shot 35.2% from the field including five of 19 from beyond the arc.  The Bearettes connected on 13 of 17 free throws, pulled down 29 rebounds, and scored 21 points off 19 Murray turnovers.

 

Macey Turley led Murray with 25 points including 18 of 21 free throws and four assists.  Maddie Waldrop added 13 points and nine rebounds.  Alexandria Mayes recorded 12 points including two three point baskets and three steals.  Alexis Burpo chipped in with nine points and eight rebounds.

 

Teri Goodlett led Butler with 19 points including two three point baskets, seven of seven free throws and two steals.  Jaelynn Penn added 13 points and eight rebounds.  5-9 Sr. Janna Lewis recorded 11 points, four rebounds, and four steals.  Molly Lockhart pulled down 11 rebounds.

Mercer County trailed 43-39 after three quarters but rallied in the final quarter buoyed by connecting on 13 of 15 free throws to earn a 58-47 victory over George Rogers Clark.  The score was tied 10 times and there were nine lead changes in the game.  Mercer County shot 32.7% from the field including four of 18 from the three point line.  The Lady Titans connected on 22 of 32 free throws, pulled down 32 rebounds, and scored 24 points off 17 GRC turnovers.  GRC shot 44.7% from the field including five of 11 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Cardinals connected on eight of 10 free throws, pulled down 24 rebounds, and scored six points off 10 Mercer County turnovers.

 

Seygan Robins led Mercer County with 26 points including 11 of 13 free throws and four assists.  Emma Souder added 17 points, 15 rebounds, and two blocked shots.

 

Kennedy Igo led GRC with 18 points including four three point baskets, and three assists.  Shemaya Behanan added nine points and six rebounds.

Kindall Talley hit two free throws with four seconds left in the game to give Franklin County a 51-49 victory over Simon Kenton.  Allyson Neace missed a potential game winning three point attempt at the buzzer for Simon Kenton.  The score was tied 11 times and there were 10 lead changes in this game.  Franklin County shot 34.9% from the field including six of 17 from the three point line.  The Lady Flyers connected on 15 of 19 free throws, pulled down 28 rebounds, and scored 12 points off 16 Simon Kenton turnovers.  Simon Kenton shot 47.6% from the field including three of 11 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Pioneers connected on six of 11 free throws, pulled down 28 rebounds, and scored 11 points off 13 Franklin County turnovers.

Tyrah McClendon-Englemon led Holmes with 27 points and seven rebounds.  McClendon-Englemon was 10 of 11 from the field including zero of one from beyond the arc, and seven of 11 from the free throw line.  Jaynice Stovall added 17 points including five of five free throws, three rebounds, and four steals.

Mercer County Chris Souder started the following lineup: 5-9 Sr. Lyric Houston, 5-9 Jr. Faith Lake, 6-3 Jr. Emmy Souder, 5-7 Jr. Lexy Lake, and 5-9 Jr. Seygan Robins.  Murray coach Rechelle Turner countered with 5-10 Jr. Alexis Burpo, 5-7 Jr. Alexandria Mayes, 6-2 Sr. Maddie Waldrop, 5-7 Jr. Macey Turley, and 5-7 Sr. Brittany Lawson

 

Mercer County defeated Murray by a score of 67-60.  Mercer County shot 34.1% from the field including eight of 25 from the three point line.  The Lady Titans connected on 29 of 38 free throws, pulled down 31 rebounds, and scored 21 points off 16 Murray turnovers.  Murray shot 39.7% from the field including five of 17 from beyond the arc.  They connected on nine of 12 free throws, pulled down 39 rebounds, and scored 13 points off 12 Mercer County turnovers.

 

Emma Souder led Mercer County with 10 points including nine of 10 free throws, five rebounds, and two blocked shots.  Seygan Robins added 16 points including 13 of 17 free throws and five assists.  5-10 Jr. Emma Davis recorded 15 points including three three point baskets and five rebounds.  Faith Lake pulled down seven rebounds.

 

Macey Turley led Murray with 20 points including two three point baskets and six rebounds.  Maddie Waldrop added 15 points, 10 rebounds, and two blocked shots.  Alexandria Mayes recorded 15 points including two three point baskets, three rebounds, and four assists.  Alexis Burpo pulled down 12 rebounds.

Franklin County defeated Holmes by a score of 51-36.  Franklin County shot 40.5% from the field including three of 10 from the three point line.  The Lady Flyers connected on 18 of 24 free throws, pulled down 32 rebounds, and scored four points off 14 Holmes turnovers.  Holmes shot 23.9% from the field including two of 14 from beyond the arc.  They connected on 12 of 18 free throws, pulled down 31 rebounds, and scored 13 points off 15 Franklin County turnovers.

 

Princess Stewart added Franklin County with 15 points including six of six free throws and seven rebounds.  Brooklynn Miles added 12 points, six rebounds, and three assists.  Savannah Courtney chipped in with seven points.

 

Tyrah McClendon-Englemon led Holmes with nine points and seven rebounds.  Jaynice Stovall added nine points, four rebounds, two assists, and two steals.  Laila Johnson recorded eight points, six rebounds, and two assists.

Franklin County coach Joey Thacker started the following lineup: 5-8 Sr. Princess Stewart, 5-6 Sr. Savannah Courtney,5-10 Sr. Rebecca Cook, 5-4 8th Grade Brooklynn Miles, and 5-5 Jr. Kindall Talley.  Mercer County Chris Souder started the following lineup: 5-9 Sr. Lyric Houston, 5-9 Jr. Faith Lake, 6-3 Jr. Emmy Souder, 5-7 Jr. Lexy Lake, and 5-9 Jr. Seygan Robins.

 

Mercer County raced out to a 26-11 first quarter lead on their way to an 85-71 victory over Franklin County to earn the championship.  Mercer County shot 53.2% from the field including 11 of 22 from the three point line.  The Lady Titans connected on 24 of 33 free throws, pulled down 33 rebounds, and scored 12 points off 10 Franklin County turnovers.  Franklin County shot 54% from the field including six of 13 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Flyers connected on 11 of 18 free throws, pulled down 22 rebounds, and scored 13 points off 12 Mercer County turnovers.

 

Emma Souder led Mercer County with 20 points including 12 of 14 free throws, three rebounds, and three assists.  Seygan Robins added 19 points including three three point baskets and seven assists.  Lexy Lake chipped in with 15 points on five three point baskets.  Lyric Houston recorded 14 points, 13 rebounds, and seven assists.  Faith Lake also reached double figures with 10 points.  5-10 Jr. Emma Davis added seven points and six rebounds.

 

Princess Stewart led Franklin County with 30 points and seven rebounds.  5-8 Jr. Josie Thacker added 12 points on four three point baskets.  Savannah Courtney chipped in with 10 points.  Rebecca Cook recorded nine points, seven rebounds, two blocked shots, and two steals.
