The All “A” Classic included four teams in 1991.  The 1992 version expanded to include eight teams and in 1993 the tournament again expanded to include a full complement of 16 teams.  Winners crowned to date are 1991 Cumberland, 1992 Cumberland, 1993 Nicholas County, 1994 Louisville Holy Cross, 1995 Monroe County, 1996 Louisville Holy Cross, 1997 Hazard, 1998 Hazard, 1999 Bishop Brossart, 2000 Somerset, 2001 Jackson County, 2002 Jackson County, 2003 Clinton County, 2004 Clinton County, 2005 Christian Academy of Louisville, 2006 Monroe County, 2007 Lexington Christian Academy, 2008 Lexington Christian Academy, 2009 Lexington Christian Academy, 2010 Newport Central Catholic, 2011 Owensboro Catholic, 2012 Walton-Verona, 2013 Owensboro Catholic, 2014 Glasgow, 2015 Covington Holy Cross, and 2016 Murray.

 

Wednesday January 25th

 

Danville vs. Murray

 

Danville coach Michael Menifee started the following lineup: 5-7 Sr. Alyvia Walker, 5-7 Jr. Kirby Alcorn, 5-8 Sr. Kennedy Walker, 5-3 Sr. Zenoviah Walker, and 5-5 So. Ivy Turner.  Murray coach Rechelle Turner countered with 5-10 Jr. Alexis Burpo, 5-7 Sr. Brittany Lawson, 6-2 Sr. Maddie Waldrop, 5-7 Jr. Alexandria Mayes, and 5-7 Jr. Macey Turley.

 

Murray raced out to a 15-4 first quarter lead on their way to a 66-37 victory over Danville.  Murray shot 40.8% from the field including four of 15 from the three point line.  The Lady Tigers connected on 22 of 31 free throws, pulled down 46 rebounds, and scored 10 points off nine Danville turnovers.  Danville shot 21.2% from the field including one of 10 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Admirals connected on 14 of 23 free throws, pulled down 35 rebounds, and scored 11 points off 10 Murray turnovers.

 

Maddie Waldrop led Murray with 17 points, 10 rebounds, and two blocked shots.  Macey Turley added 17 points including eight of eight free throws, four rebounds, and four assists.  Alexandria Mayes recorded 11 points and eight rebounds.  Alexis Burpo chipped in with nine points and six rebounds.

 

Ivy Turner led Danville with 14 points including eight of 12 free throws and six rebounds.  Zenoviah Walker added 11 points, four rebounds, and three steals.  Alyvia Walker recorded 10 points.

Malaysia Chames, 5-5 So. Olivia Crigler, and 5-6 So. Trinity McClendon.

 

Monroe County defeated Covington Holy Cross by a core of 52-49.  Monroe County shot 36.2% from the field including two of eight from the three point line.  The Lady Falcons connected on 16 of 28 free throws, pulled down 34 rebounds, and scored 10 points off 10 Covington Holy Cross turnovers.  Covington Holy Cross shot 42.1% from the field including five of nine from beyond the arc.  The Indians connected on 12 of 20 free throws, pulled down 28 rebounds, and scored three points off six Monroe County turnovers.

 

Kelsey Johnson led Monroe County with 19 points and five rebounds.  Reagan Turner added 16 points including two three point baskets and four steals.  Lauren Hammer recorded seven points, five rebounds, and three assists.  Ashlee McGeorge pulled down 10 rebounds.

 

Trinity McClendon led Covington Holy Cross with 10 points.  Courtney Turner added nine points on three three point baskets and six rebounds.  6-4 8th Grade Sidney Thomas added nine points and four rebounds.  Aleah Tucker recorded eight points, three rebounds, four assists, two blocked shots, and three steals.  Malaysia Chames chipped in with six points, six rebounds, and two blocked shots.

Trimble County defeated Presentation by a score of 35-23.  Trimble County shot 35.3% from the field including five of 13 from the three point line.  The Lady Raiders connected on six of eight free throws, pulled down 26 rebounds, and scored 10 points off 14 Presentation turnovers.  Presentation shot 15.2% from the field including one of eight from beyond the arc.  The Toppers connected on 12 of 14 free throws, pulled down 27 rebounds, and scored 10 points off 14 Trimble County turnovers.

 

Bailey Duke led Trimble County with 15 points including three three point baskets.  Kaylee Clifford added 12 points, 10 rebounds, three assists, six blocked shots, and two steals. 

 

Julia Voght led Presentation with eight points, eight rebounds, and four steals.  Lilly Stephenson added seven points.

West Carter utilized their ling range shooting to defeat Owensboro Catholic by a score of 58-55.  The score was tied five times and there were 10 lead changes in the game.  West Carter shot 40.8% from the field including 11 of 26 from the three point line.  The Lady Comets connected on seven of nine free throws, pulled down 13 rebounds, and scored nine points off 19 Owensboro Catholic turnovers.  Owensboro Catholic shot 52.2% from the field including zero of six from beyond the arc.  The Lady Aces connected on seven of 10 free throws, pulled down 42 rebounds, and scored 10 points off six West Carter turnovers.  Owensboro Catholic outscored West Carter 44-18 in the paint but was outscored 33-0 from the three point line.

 

Hannah Bear led West Carter with 18 points including four three point baskets.  Kallie Burchett added 17 points including three three point baskets and three steals. 

 

MacKenzie Keelin led Owensboro Catholic with 17 points, 13 rebounds, and four assists.  Ellie Mitchell added 16 points and nine rebounds.  Katelin Maggard and Sarah Clemens each recorded eight points and four rebounds.

Harlan pulled away in the final quarter to defeat Paintsville by a score of 51-38.  Harlan shot 41.9% from the field including three of 16 from the three point line.  The Lady Dragons connected on 12 of 15 free throws, pulled down 37 rebounds, and scored four points off six Paintsville turnovers.  Paintsville shot 25.9% from the field including two of 12 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Tigers connected on eight of 15 free throws, pulled down 32 rebounds, and scored eight points off 13 Harlan turnovers.

 

Jordan Brock led Harlan with 23 points including eight of eight free throws, five rebounds, and seven assists.  McKenzie King added 14 points and six rebounds. 

 

6-1 Jr. Eleanora Lanzani led Paintsville with 19 points including two three point baskets and eight rebounds.  Elizabeth Williams added eight points.  Presley Chirico recorded six points and seven rebounds.

Crittenden County rallied from an early 15-8 deficit to defeat Sayre 45-42 in overtime.  The score was tied six times and there were three lead changes in the game.  Crittenden County shot 46.9% from the field including two of three from the three point line.  The Lady Rockets connected on 13 of 18 free throws, pulled down 24 rebounds, and scored 20 points off 16 Sayre turnovers.  Sayre shot 44.7% from the field including one of six from beyond the arc.  The Lady Spartans connected on seven of nine free throws, pulled down 18 rebounds, and scored 13 points off 16 Crittenden County turnovers.

 

Cassidy Moss led Crittenden County with 18 points, seven rebounds, and four steals.  Madison Champion added 12 points and five rebounds.  Mauri Collins chipped in with nine points.

 

Kaya Davis led Sayre with 16 points, eight rebounds, three blocked shots, and three steals.  Dee Dee Wheeler added 10 points and three assists.  Isabel Pergande recorded nine points, four rebounds, and two steals.

Leslie County defeated Kentucky Country Day by a score of 70-20.  Leslie County shot 51.7% from the field including six of 18 from the three point line.  The Lady Eagles connected on four of five free throws, pulled down 36 rebounds, and scored 46 points off 29 KCD turnovers.  KCD shot 21.9% from the field including two of 17 from beyond the arc.  The Bearcats connected on four of six free throws, pulled down 19 rebounds, and scored six points off 13 Leslie County turnovers.

 

5-8 So. Haley Simpson led Leslie County with 16 points and six rebounds.  Kaley Collett added 12 points. 

 

Rachel Jennings led KCD with six points.  5-5 So. Iyla Draw recorded two points, five rebounds, and three blocked shots.

Monroe County defeated Murray 60-57 to eliminate the tournament favorite.  The score was tied five times and there were eight lead changes in the game.  Monroe County shot 36.8% from the field including one of five from the three point line.  The Lady Falcons connected on 17 of 25 free throws, pulled down 45 rebounds, and scored 13 points off 13 Murray turnovers.  Murray shot 26.3% from the field including four of 14 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Tigers connected on 23 of 32 free throws, pulled down 43 rebounds, and scored nine points off 10 Monroe County turnovers.

 

Kelsey Johnson led a balanced Monroe County scoring attack with 16 points.  Reagan Turner added 14 points and five assists.  Ashley Geralds recorded 13 points, 10 rebounds, and three steals.  Ashlee McGeorge added 12 points and 17 rebounds.

 

Macey Turley led Murray with 22 points including two three point baskets and four rebounds.  Alexandria Mayes added 15 points including two three point baskets, nine of 11 free throws, six rebounds, and three assists.  Alex Burpo recorded 10 points and six rebounds.  Maddie Waldrop chipped in with five points, 10 rebounds, and five blocked shots.

Trimble County outscored West Carter 21-4 in the second quarter on their way to a 43-27 victory.  Trimble County shot 51.6% from the field including four of eight from the three point line.  The Lady Raiders connected on seven of seven free throws, pulled down 25 rebounds, and scored 15 points off eight West Carter turnovers.  West Carter shot 27.9% from the field including zero of 14 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Comets connected on three of four free throws, pulled down 22 rebounds, and scored eight points off 14 Trimble County turnovers.

 

Shelbe Black led Trimble County with 18 points, five rebounds, three assists, two blocked shots, and three steals.  Kaylee Clifford led 16 points, eight rebounds, eight assists, and three blocked shots.  Bailey Duke recorded nine points on three three point baskets, five rebounds, and two steals.

Harlan defeated Crittenden County by a score of 43-21.  Harlan shot 33.3% from the field including three of 14 from the three point line.  The Lady Dragons connected on 14 of 19 free throws, pulled down 40 rebounds, and scored two points off four Crittenden County turnovers.  Crittenden County shot 16.7% from the field including zero of nine from beyond the arc.  The Lady Rockets connected on seven of 10 free throws, pulled down 26 rebounds, and scored one point off five Harlan turnovers.

 

Jordan Brock led Harlan with 31 points including two three point baskets and six rebounds.  Brandi Haywood and McKenzie King each pulled down 10 rebounds.

Leslie County defeated Nicholas County by a score of 61-47.  Leslie County shot 44.8% from the field including five of 16 from the three point line.  The Lady Eagles connected on 30 of 49 free throws, pulled down 33 rebounds, and scored 25 points off 19 Nicholas County turnovers.  Nicholas County shot 23.1% from the field including five of 24 from beyond the arc.  Nicholas County attempted 23 more shots (52-29) from the field than Leslie County.  The Lady Jackets connected on 18 of 28 free throws, pulled down 39 free throws, and scored 13 points off 16 Leslie County turnovers.

 

Lexy Meyers led Leslie County with 32 points including five three point baskets, 13 of 15 free throws, and 10 rebounds.  Hailee Mullins added 14 points, five rebounds, four assists, and seven steals.

Leslie County coach Mark Collette started the following lineup: 5-7 Sr. Kaley Collett, 5-7 Fr. Lexy Meyers, 5-5 Sr. Emily Griffith, 5-5 Sr. Shelby Sparks, and 5-2 Fr. Hailee Mullins.  Harlan coach Derrick Akal countered with 5-9 Jr. McKenzie King, 5-7 Jr. Noah Canady, 5-10 Jr. Brandi Haywood, 5-5 Sr. Jordan Brock, and 5-6 Jr. Taylor Simpson.

 

Harlan outscored Leslie County 24-3 in the second quarter on their way to a 71-49 victory over the Lady Eagles.  Harlan shot 47.6% from the field including six of 14 from the three point line.  The Lady Dragons connected on 25 of 33 free throws, pulled down 33 rebounds, and scored 11 points off 11 Leslie County turnovers.  Leslie County shot 26.9% from the field including four of 16 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Eagles connected on 17 of 21 free throws, pulled down 33 rebounds, and scored 12 points off 11 Harlan turnovers.

 

Jordan Brock led Harlan with 32 points including four three point baskets, 12 of 14 free throws and four rebounds.  McKenzie King added 27 points including nine of 11 free throws, 11 rebounds, and three blocked shots.  Brandi Haywood recorded two points, 11 rebounds, and eight blocked shots.

 

Emily Griffith led Leslie County with 15 points including eight of nine free throws and five rebounds.  Shelby Sparks added 10 points including two three point baskets.  Lexy Meyers recorded eight points and eight rebounds.

Harlan coach Derrick Akal started the following lineup: 5-9 Jr. McKenzie King, 5-7 Jr. Noah Canady, 5-10 Jr. Brandi Haywood, 5-5 Sr. Jordan Brock, and 5-6 Jr. Taylor Simpson.  Monroe County coach Dwayne Murray countered with 5-8 Sr. Lauren Hammer, 5-8 Sr. Kelsey Johnson, 5-10 Sr. Ashlee McGeorge, 5-7 Jr. Ashley Geralds, and 5-8 Sr. Reagan Turner.  

 

Monroe County defeated Harlan 61-55 to capture the championship.  Monroe County shot 47.7% from the field including four of 11 from the three point line.  The Lady Falcons connected on 15 of 23 free throws, pulled down 34 rebounds, and scored four points off five Harlan turnovers.  Harlan shot 43.5% from the field including 11 of 28 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Dragons connected on four of five free throws, pulled down 18 rebounds, and scored four points off seven Monroe County turnovers.

 

Reagan Turner led Monroe County with 29 points including four three point baskets, 11 of 13 free throws, four rebounds, and three assists.  Ashlee McGeorge added 12 points and 12 rebounds.  Kelsey Johnson recorded 12 points and three rebounds.

 

Jordan Brock led Harlan with 39 points including eight three point baskets.  McKenzie King added nine points on three three point baskets.
