Thursday January 29th

 

Buckhorn (Region 14) vs. University Heights (Region 2)

 

Buckhorn coach John Noble started the following lineup: 6-1 Jr. Connor Hoskins, 5-9 Sr. Dylan Cole, 6-3 Sr. Caleb Estep, 5-9 Jr. Josh Crank, and 5-9 Sr. Peyton Cooper.  University Heights coach Grant Shouse countered with 6-3 Jr. Justin Womack, 6-0 So. Travion Hollowell, 6-5 So. Jaylen Sebree, 5-10 8th Grade Dekeyan Tandy, and 5-11 Jr. Preston Milburn.

 

University Heights led 20-9 after the first quarter but Buckhorn rallied to pull out a 55-51 victory.  There were four lead changes and two ties in this game.  Buckhorn outscored University Heights 27-18 after the intermission as Buckhorn’s press created problems for the Blazers.  Buckhorn shot 32.1% from the field including five of 15 from the three point line.  The Wildcats connected on 16 of 26 free throws, pulled down 38 rebounds, and scored 18 points off University Heights turnovers.  University Heights shot 27.1% from the field including four of 22 from beyond the arc.  The Blazers connected on 15 of 18 free throws, pulled down 48 rebounds, and scored 16 points off 12 Buckhorn turnovers.

 

Connor Hoskins led Buckhorn with 22 points and five rebounds. 6-0 Jr. Ryan Boggs added 12 points and five rebounds.  Josh Crank recorded 11 points including three three point baskets.  Peyton Cooper dished out eight assists and recorded three steals.

 

Travion Hollowell led University Heights with 18 points and six rebounds.  Jaylen Sebree added 13 points and 13 rebounds.  6-7 Jr. Jonta Acree recorded 10 points, 13 rebounds, and three blocked shots.

Lexington Christian Academy defeated Shawnee by a score of 74-43.  Lexington Christian Academy shot 51.9% from the field including five of 14 from the three point line.  The Eagles connected on 15 of 27 free throws, pulled down 38 rebounds, and scored 19 points off 19 Shawnee turnovers.  Shawnee shot 31.6% from the field including one of 14 from beyond the arc.  The Golden Eagles connected on 18 of 28 free throws, pulled down 28 rebounds, and scored four points off 11 Lexington Christian Academy turnovers.

 

Matt Rose led Lexington Christian Academy with 23 points and eight rebounds.  Drew Trimble added 14 points and five rebounds.  Benton Nighbert chipped in with nine points on three three point baskets.  Kyle Rode recorded six points, six rebounds, four assists, and three steals.  6-6 So. Tre King added six points and four rebounds.

 

Joseph Jewell led Shawnee with 11 points and four rebounds.  Jonas Griffith added nine points.  Jaylen Wesley recorded eight points and five rebounds.

Newport Central Catholic outscored Hancock County 23-2 in the second quarter on their way to a 67-31 victory.  Newport Central Catholic shot 51.9% from the field including eight of 19 from the three point line.  The Thoroughbreds connected on three of nine free throws, pulled down 31 rebounds, and scored 24 points off 16 Hancock County turnovers.  Hancock County shot 32.4% from the field including three of nine from beyond the arc.  The Hornets connected on six of 12 free throws, pulled down 23 rebounds, and scored five points off four Newport Central Catholic turnovers.

 

Ben Weyer led Newport Central Catholic with 12 points and six rebounds.  5-10 Jr. John Ludwig also scored 12 points on four three point baskets.  Grant Moeves also scored 12 points.  Drew McDonald recorded 10 points, nine rebounds, and three blocked shots.

 

Ty Ogle led Hancock County with 11 points.  Caleb Bivins added four points and five rebounds.

Elliott County defeated Kentucky Country Day by a score of 69-58.  Elliott County shot 45.1% from the field including six of 14 from the three point line.  The Lions connected on 17 of 27 free throws, pulled down 37 rebounds, and scored 17 points off 16 Kentucky Country Day turnovers.  Kentucky Country Day shot 42.5% from the field including seven of 23 from beyond the arc.  The Bearcats connected on 17 of 23 free throws, pulled down 26 rebounds, and scored eight points off 10 Elliott County turnovers.

 

6-1 8th Grade Korbin Spencer led Elliott County with 20 points including 14 of 16 free throws, seven rebounds, and three assists.  Landon Griffith added 17 points including five three point baskets.  Chase Porter recorded 12 points, 10 rebounds, and four steals.  Collin Howell chipped in with 12 points and five rebounds.

 

Malyiek McCray led Kentucky Country Day with 19 points including 10 of 14 free throws and seven rebounds.  Anthony Mathis added 15 points on five three point baskets and three steals.  Colin Ferguson chipped in with nine points.

Campbellsville led 40-39 after three quarters but Shelby Valley rallied in the final quarter to earn a 58-46 victory.  Shelby Valley shot 45.8% from the field including three of 10 from the three point line.  The Wildcats connected on 11 of 13 free throws, pulled down 26 rebounds, and scored 22 points off 16 Campbellsville turnovers.  Campbellsville shot 45% from the field including five of 15 from beyond the arc.  The Eagles connected on five of six free throws, pulled down 24 rebounds, and scored three points off six Shelby Valley turnovers.

 

Hunter Swindall led Shelby Valley with 26 points and six rebounds.  Swindall was 11 of 15 from the field including one of one from beyond the arc and three of three free throws.  Corey Hamilton added 12 points and five rebounds.  Andrew Newsome recorded eight points and seven rebounds.

 

Blake Clark led Campbellsville with 16 points including four three point baskets.  6-3 Jr. Austin Hash added 10 points on four of four from the field and two of two free throws.  Damontez Smith recorded six points and six rebounds.

Owen County defeated Augusta by a score of 64-50.  The score was tied four times and there were 10 lead changes in this game.  Owen County shot 61.9% from the field including three of nine from the three point line.  The Rebels connected on nine of 13 free throws, pulled down 35 rebounds, and scored six points off eight Augusta turnovers.  Augusta shot six of 21 from beyond the arc.  The Panthers connected on two of four free throws, pulled down 21 rebounds, and scored nine points off 12 Owen County turnovers.

 

Carson Williams led Owen County with 19 points, 18 rebounds, three assists, and four blocked shots.  Williams was eight of nine from the field and three of three free throws.  Vince Toftness added 16 points and five assists.  Chad McDonald chipped in with 12 points.

 

Connor Maddox led Augusta with 15 points.  Camryn Snapp added 10 points including two three point baskets and seven rebounds.  Owens Crawford recorded 10 points and seven assists.  Nathan Shrader chipped in with nine points on three three point baskets.

Cody Woolridge hit a basket and free throw with five seconds left on the clock to give Danville a 68-65 victory over previously undefeated Williamsburg (17-1).  The score was tied four times and there were five lead changes in the game.  Danville shot 53.35 from the field including nine of 25 from the three point line.  The Admirals connected on 11 of 11 free throws, pulled down 26 rebounds, and scored 13 points off eight Williamsburg turnovers.  Williamsburg shot 43.1% from the field including five of 14 from beyond the arc.  The Yellow Jackets connected on 16 of 21 free throws, pulled down 28 rebounds, and scored 18 points off 11 Danville turnovers.

 

Cody Woolridge led Danville with 22 points including two three point baskets, 10 rebounds, five assists, and two blocked shots.  Woolridge was seven of nine from the field including two of two from beyond the arc, and six of six from the free throw line.  Trent Johnson added 15 points.  Jaylen Hendren recorded 11 points including three three point baskets.  Spencer McKinney chipped in with 10 points including two three point baskets and five rebounds.  Trevin Washington also scored 10 points including two three point baskets and four assists.

Lexington Christian Academy defeated Buckhorn by a score of 53-35.  Lexington Christian Academy shot 54.1% from the field including one of 10 from the three point line.  The Eagles connected on 12 of 19 free throws, pulled down 37 rebounds, and scored nine points off eight Buckhorn turnovers.  Buckhorn shot 27.9% from the field including four of 18 from beyond the arc.  The Wildcats connected on seven of 14 free throws, pulled down 16 rebounds, and scored 12 points off 14 Lexington Christian Academy turnovers.

 

Matt Rose led Lexington Christian Academy with 22 points and 13 rebounds.  Drew Trimble added 14 points, 11 rebounds, and three blocked shots.  Kyle Rode recorded six points and six assists.

 

Connor Hoskins led Buckhorn with 13 points.  Peyton Cooper added eight points and four assists.  Dylan Cole chipped in with seven points.

Drew McDonald led Newport Central catholic with 21 points including two three point baskets, and seven rebounds.  Grant Moeves added 12 points including two three point baskets and five assists.  Zach Pangallo chipped in with 11 points.  Ben Weyer recorded nine points, seven rebounds, and three blocked shots.

 

Collin Howell led Elliott County with nine points.  Hunter Holbrook and 6-1 8th Grade Korbin Spencer each recorded six points.

Owen County raced out to a 21-6 lead but required overtime to defeat Shelby Valley by a score of 57-52.  Shelby Valley actually led 39-36 after three quarters.  The score was tied four times and there were two lead changes in this game.  Owen County shot 51.3% from the field including six of 12 from the three point line.  The Rebels connected on only 11 of 25 free throws, pulled down 30 rebounds, and scored five points off seven Shelby Valley turnovers.  Shelby Valley shot 33.3% from the field including six of 16 from beyond the arc.  Shelby Valley attempted 15 more shots (54-39) from the field than Owen County.  The Wildcats connected on 10 of 12 free throws, pulled down 33 rebounds, and scored 14 points off 13 Owen County turnovers.

 

Carson Williams led Owen County with 23 points, 12 rebounds, three assists, six blocked shots, and three steals.  Chad McDonald added 20 points including six three point baskets.

 

Corey Hamilton led Shelby Valley with 14 points including four three point baskets and six rebounds.  Hunter Swindall added 12 points and eight rebounds.  6-0 So. Lamont Wright also scored 12 points.  Andrew Newsome pulled down seven rebounds.

Skyler Geralds connected on two free throws with two seconds left on the clock to give Monroe County a 55-53 victory over Danville.  Danville led 46-35 in the final quarter but Monroe County rallied for the victory.  There were four lead changes and three ties in the game. 

 

Monroe County shot 36.7% from the field including six of 22 from the three point line.  The Falcons connected on 13 of 22 free throws, pulled down 25 rebounds, and scored 22 points off 18 Danville turnovers.  Danville shot 33.3% from the field including five of 17 from beyond the arc.  The Admirals connected on 46 rebounds, and scored eight points off eight Monroe County turnovers.

 

Skyler Geralds led Monroe County with 15 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and four steals.  6-0 Fr. Tyrec Mink added 14 points including three three point baskets.  Dillon Geralds recorded nine points and five rebounds.  John Austin Geralds also scored nine points.

Newport Central Catholic defeated Lexington Christian Academy by a score of 55-51.  Newport Central Catholic shot 45.2% from the field including five of 17 from the three point line.  The Thoroughbreds connected on 12 of 18 free throws, pulled down 25 rebounds, and scored 13 points off seven Lexington Christian Academy turnovers.  Lexington Christian Academy shot 46.7% from the field including six of 18 from beyond the arc.  The Eagles connected on three of four free throws, pulled down 26 rebounds, and scored six points off five Newport Central Catholic turnovers.

 

Zach Pangallo led Newport Central Catholic with 21 points including three three point baskets.  Drew McDonald added 13 points and 13 rebounds.  Ben Weyer recorded 10 points, six rebounds, and four blocked shots.

Newport Central Catholic dominated today in a 78-36 victory over Monroe County.  Newport Central Catholic shot a sizzling 63% from the field including nine of 21 from the three point line.  The Thoroughbreds connected on 11 of 13 free throws, pulled down 40 rebounds, and scored 12 points off eight Monroe County turnovers.  Monroe County shot 27.1% from the field including two of 21 from beyond the arc.  The Falcons connected on eight of 14 free throws, pulled down 17 rebounds, and scored 13 points off 11 Newport Central Catholic turnovers.

 

Ben Weyer led Newport Central Catholic with 26 points and seven rebounds.  Weyer was nine of 12 from the field including two of three from beyond the arc, and six of seven free throws.  Drew McDonald added 19 points and nine rebounds.  McDonald was eight of nine from the field including two of three from beyond the arc, and hit his only free throw.  Zach Pangallo recorded 12 points and 12 assists.
