February 24th

 

Madison Central vs. Madison Southern (Girls)

 

Madison Southern coach Robert Cooksey started the following lineup: 5-10 So. Lindsey Johns, 5-9 Sr. Raevin Cain, 6-0 So. Mallie Cornett, 5-5 Fr. Bailee Vanover, and 5-8 So. Kasi Schneid.  Madison Southern coach Summer Simmons countered with 5-10 Jr. Briana Lanham, 5-10 Sr. Rachel Ramey, 6-0 So. Marley Lawson, 5-4 Sr. Kelley Freeman, and 5-10 Sr. Kristen Hayes.

 

Madison Southern raced out to a 20-8 first quarter lead on their way to a 61-45 victory over Madison Central.  Madison Southern shot 41.7% from the field including four of 15 from the three point line.  The Lady Eagles connected on seven of 13 free throws, pulled down 37 rebounds, and scored 18 points off 19 Madison Central turnovers.  Madison Central shot 41.7% from the field including one of three from beyond the arc.  The Lady Indians connected on four of 10 free throws, pulled down 32 rebounds, and scored nine points off 12 Madison Southern turnovers.

 

Kristen Hayes led Madison Southern with 23 points including two three point baskets, nine rebounds, three assists, three blocked shots, and two steals.  Marley Lawson added 16 points.  5-6 Sr. Samantha Parms chipped in with seven points.  Briana Lanham pulled down 11 rebounds and dished out three assists.

 

Bailee Vanover led Madison Central with 11 points and five assists.  Raevin Cain added eight points, seven rebounds, and two blocked shots.  Mallie Cornett recorded eight points, four rebounds, and two blocked shots.  Lindsey Johns chipped in with seven points.  Kasi Schneid added six points, seven rebounds, and four assists.

Madison Central vs. Madison Southern (Boys)

 

Madison Central coach Allen Feldhaus Jr. started the following lineup: 6-1 Jr. Grant Brockman, 6-2 Jr. John Williams, 6-4 Sr. Sam Jones, 5-11 Sr. Kirkland Humphrey, and 5-10 Jr. Terique Miller.  Madison Southern coach Shane Buttry countered with 6-1 Jr. Tanner Kidwell, 6-0 Jr. Stacy Burns, 6-3 Jr. Griffin Gabbard, 5-9 So. Caleb Miller, and 6-0 So. Michael Jefferson.

 

Madison Central defeated Madison Southern 70-62 in overtime.  Free throw shooting was Madison Southern’s downfall in overtime as they were two of eight in overtime while Madison Central was 11 of 12.  Madison Central shot 45.6% from the field including two of 15 from the three point line.  The Indians connected on 15 of 16 free throws, pulled down 38 rebounds, and scored 14 points off 12 Madison Southern turnovers.  Madison Southern shot 45.5% from the field including four of 12 from beyond the arc.  The Eagles connected on 18 of 32 free throws, pulled down 2 rebounds, and scored 17 points off 10 Madison Central turnovers.

 

Sam Jones led Madison Central with 21 points, seven rebounds, and two blocked shots.  Kirkland Humphrey added 13 points, eight rebounds, and four assists.  John Williams recorded 13 points and eight rebounds. 

 

Tanner Kidwell led Madison Southern with 27 points including two three point baskets.  Griffin Gabbard added eight points, seven rebounds, and three steals.  6-3 Jr. Andrew Miller recorded eight points and six rebounds.  Caleb Miller also scored eight points.

Model vs. Berea (Girls)

 

Model coach Bobby Storie started the following lineup: 5-10 So. Emily Jackson, 5-7 So. Mallory Smith, 6-1 8th Grade Lauren Jackson, 5-5 So. Abby Vicars, and 5-7 Sr. Hayley Hunt.  Berea coach Brittany Calhoun countered with 5-8 Jr. Allie Maynard, 6-0 8th Grade Adrienne Beggs, 6-0 Sr. Victoria Sexton, 5-0 So. Cherish Simpson, and 5-5 So. Jordan Sandefur.

Model led 22-7 early in the second quarter but had to withstand a furious Berea rally to earn a 44-42 victory.  Berea had two chances for the ties in the closing seconds but the ball rimmed out.  Model shot 36.8% from the field including three of six from the three point line.  The Lady Patriots connected on 13 of 18 free throws, pulled down 25 rebounds, and scored 12 points off 16 Berea turnovers.  Berea shot 25% from the field including four of 12 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Pirates connected on eight of 11 free throws, pulled down 39 rebounds, and scored 16 points off 19 Model turnovers.

 

Hayley Hunt led Model with 23 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and four steals.  Abby Vicars added 10 points including three three point baskets.  Mallory Smith recorded six points and four rebounds.  Emily and Lauren Jackson each pulled down six rebounds and blocked two shots.

 

Jordan Sandefur led Berea with 26 points including four three point baskets, four rebounds, two blocked shots, and 10 steals.  Victoria Sexton added 11 points, seven rebounds, and two blocked shots.  Adrienne Beggs also pulled down seven rebounds.

Model raced out to a 28-12 lead in the second quarter on their way to a 62-55 victory over Berea.  Model shot 53.7% from the field including six of 15 from the three point line.  The Patriots connected on 12 of 19 free throws, pulled down 30 rebounds, and scored nine points off seven Berea turnovers.  Berea shot 35% from the field including five of 19 from beyond the arc.  The Pirates connected on eight of eight free throws, pulled down 32 rebounds, and scored 12 points off 12 Model turnovers.

 

Ephraim Otieno led Model with 34 points including five three point baskets.  Alex Chen added 19 points, eight rebounds, three assists, four blocked shots, and three steals.

 

Shyiem Alexander led Berea with 22 points including six of six free throws and five rebounds.  Bradley Atkins added 18 points including five three point baskets.  Deandre Tate pulled down 10 rebounds.

Madison Southern outscored Model 20-6 in the second quarter to pull away for a 67-36 victory.  Madison Southern shot 32.9% from the field including 12 of 35 from the three point line.  The Lady Eagles connected on three of four free throws, pulled down 49 rebounds, and scored 30 points off 24 Model turnovers.  Model shot 29.3% from the field including one of six from beyond the arc.  The Lady Patriots connected on 11 of 18 free throws, pulled down 34 rebounds, and scored six points off 11 Madison Southern turnovers.

 

Kristen Hayes led Madison Southern with 19 points including three three point baskets, six rebounds, five assists, four blocked shots, and four steals.  Briana Lanham added 15 points and 19 rebounds.  Rachel Ramey recorded 13 points including three three point baskets.

 

Hayley Hunt led Model with 13 points, seven rebounds, and three assists.  Mallory Smith and Lauren Jackson each recorded nine points and five rebounds.

Madison Central raced out to a 47-21 halftime lead fueled by nine first half three point baskets on their way to a 73-42 victory over Model.  Madison Central shot 35.1% from the field including nine of 27 from the three point line.  The Indians connected on 12 of 15 free throws, pulled down 49 rebounds, and scored 24 points off 19 Model turnovers.  Madison Central attempted 22 more shots (74-52) from the field than Model.  Model shot 32.7% from the field including three of 12 from beyond the arc.  The Patriots connected on five of nine free throws, pulled down 33 rebounds, and scored six points off eight Madison Central turnovers.

 

Kirkland Humphrey led Madison Central with 19 points including three three point baskets and five assists.  Sam Jones added 18 points, seven rebounds, and three steals.  Terique Miller recorded nine points on three three point baskets, four rebounds, and six assists.  Grant Brockman chipped in with nine points on three three point baskets.  6-3 Sr. Griffin Hotchkiss, 6-1 Jr. Jacob Taylor, and John Williams pulled down eight, seven, and seven rebounds respectively.

 

Alex Chen led Model with 17 points, 10 rebounds, and six blocked shots.  Ephraim Otieno added 13 points.  Andrew Jacob Backus recorded six points on two three point baskets, five rebounds, and three assists.
