The All “A” Classic included four girls teams in 1991.  The 1992 version expanded to include eight teams and in 1993 the tournament again expanded to include a full complement of 16 teams.  Winners crowned to date are 1991 Cumberland, 1992 Cumberland, 1993 Nicholas County, 1994 Louisville Holy Cross, 1995 Monroe County, 1996 Louisville Holy Cross, 1997 Hazard, 1998 Hazard, 1999 Bishop Brossart, 2000 Somerset, 2001 Jackson County, 2002 Jackson County, 2003 Clinton County, 2004 Clinton County, 2005 Christian Academy of Louisville, 2006 Monroe County, 2007 Lexington Christian Academy, 2008 Lexington Christian Academy, 2009 Lexington Christian Academy, 2010 Newport Central Catholic, 2011 Owensboro Catholic, and 2012 Walton-Verona.

 

 

 

January 23rd

 

Frankfort  (Region 11)  vs.  West Carter  (Region 16)

 

Frankfort coach Deron Norman started the following lineup: 5-8 Sr. Shanae Brown, 5-6 Sr. Kiana Russell, 5-8 Sr. Cailyn Jouett, 5-4 Sr. Jasmine Washington, and 5-8 Sr. Shauntae Brown.  West Carter coach Paul Stevens countered with 5-9 So. Alexis Berry, 5-8 Sr. Chelsea Ziegler, 5-10 Sr. Megan Centers, 5-4 So. Brooke Adkins, and 5-6 Sr. Brooke Callihan.

 

Frankfort scored 31 points off 32 West Carter turnovers in a 45-19 victory.  The Lady Panthers defense dominated in this game recording 20 steals and seven blocked shots while holding West Carter to 9.52 % (2-21) from the field in the second half.  Frankfort shot 26.8% from the field including four of 20 from the three point line.  The Lady Panthers connected on 11 of 26 free throws, pulled down 36 rebounds, and attempted 21 more shots (56-35) from the field than West Carter.  West Carter shot 17.1% from the field including zero of five from beyond the arc.  The Lady Comets connected on seven of 11 free throws, pulled down 46 rebounds, and scored two points off seven Frankfort turnovers.

 

6-0 Fr. Brianna Burbridge led Frankfort with 11 points including three three point baskets.  Shauntae Brown added nine points, five rebounds, seven assists, and eight steals.  Shanae Brown chipped in with eight points and 11 rebounds.  Jasmine Washington also recorded eight points.

 

Alexis Berry led West Carter with six points.  Brooke Callihan added four points.  Megan Centers recorded three points and 10 rebounds.

Bishop Brossart defeated Murray by a score of 61-49.  Bishop Brossart shot 44.7% from the field including six of 12 from the three point line.  The Lady ‘Stangs connected on 13 of 17 free throws, pulled down 37 rebounds, and scored nine points off 14 Murray turnovers.  Murray shot 34% from the field including five of 18 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Tigers connected on eight of 12 free throws, pulled down 26 rebounds, and scored 11 points off 18 Bishop Brossart turnovers.

 

Abby Stadtmiller led a balanced Bishop Brossart attack with 13 points and five assists.  Sarah Futscher added 10 points, 12 rebounds, and three blocked shots.  5-9 Jr. Cory Ziegler added 10 points including two three point baskets.  5-8 Jr. Morgan Verst chipped in with eight points.  5-9 Sr. Maria Greis recorded six points and eight rebounds.

 

Janssen Starks led Murray with 25 points, seven assists, and four steals.  Julie Thiede added 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Webster County defeated Louisville Collegiate by a score of 51-26.  Webster County shot 40.8% from the field including three of 10 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Trojans connected on eight of 22 free throws, pulled down 39 rebounds, and scored 14 points off 20 Louisville Collegiate turnovers.  Louisville Collegiate shot 28.6% from the field including one of 10 from beyond the arc.  The Amazons connected on one of five free throws, pulled down 27 rebounds, and scored four points off nine Webster County turnovers.

 

Darrian McNary led Webster County with 13 points and six rebounds.  Mariah Herrera added 11 points, nine rebounds, four assists, and three steals.

Newport Central Catholic raced out to a 19-3 first quarter lead on their way to a 58-32 victory over Pineville.  Newport Central Catholic shot 45.8% from the field including two of 10 from the three point line.  The Thoroughbreds connected on 12 of 17 free throws, pulled down 38 rebounds, and scored 17 points off 19 Pineville turnovers.  Pineville shot 20.8% from the field including one of eight from beyond the arc.  The Lady Lions connected on 11 of 20 free throws, pulled down 34 rebounds, and scored six points off 18 Newport Central Catholic turnovers.

 

Alexus Mayes led Newport Central Catholic with 17 points and seven rebounds.  Stephanie Lewis added 13 points.  Nicole Kiernan recorded 10 points, 15 rebounds, and six blocked shots.

Holy Cross outscored Leslie County 18-8 in the third quarter on their way to a 59-48 victory.  There were four lead changes and six ties in this game.  Holy Cross shot 48.9% from the field including zero of eight from the three point line.  The Lady Cougars connected on 13 of 16 free throws, pulled down 36 rebounds, and scored 20 points off 19 Leslie County turnovers.  Leslie County shot 35.4% from the field including seven of 16 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Eagles connected on seven of 13 free throws, pulled down 25 rebounds, and scored 18 points off 18 Holy Cross turnovers.

 

Sydney Morabito led Holy Cross with 18 points and 11 rebounds.  Josie Hockman added 18 points and three blocked shots.  Jillian Epperson also recorded a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Gallatin County captured a 64-59 overtime victory over Danville.  This was a game of runs as Gallatin County led 16-8 after the first quarter but Danville rallied for a 28-23 lead at halftime.  Danville increased their lead to 32-23 in the third quarter.  Gallatin County rallied but Danville’s Essence Grey hit a shot at one second left in regulation to tie the score at 54-54 and force overtime.  Gallatin County took control in overtime for the victory.  The score was tied 10 times and there were five lead changes in this game.

 

Gallatin County shot 45.7% from the field including two of eight from the three point line.  The Lady Wildcats connected on 20 of 26 free throws, pulled down 37 rebounds, and scored 10 points off 13 Danville turnovers.  Danville shot 38.3% from the field including four of 17 from beyond the arc.  Danville attempted 14 more shots (60-46) from the field than Gallatin County. The Lady Admirals connected on nine of 12 free throws, pulled down 28 rebounds, and scored 14 points off 19 Gallatin County turnovers.

 

Hannah Dossett led Gallatin County with 19 points and 14 rebounds.  Mikkah Hignite added 14 points and nine rebounds.  Brooke Dossett chipped in with 14 points and five assists.  Kelsea Satchwell recorded 11 points, four rebounds, and five steals.

 

Kasey Young led Danville with 21 points and five rebounds.  Essence Grey added 15 points, five rebounds, five assists, and three steals.  Laken Grey chipped in with 11 points and six rebounds.

Brianna Burbridge had hit a three pointer to give Frankfort a 40-38 lead with 11 seconds left on the clock.  There were seven lead changes and eight ties in this contest.  Bishop Brossart shot 36.7% from the field including zero of two from the three point line.  The Lady ‘Stangs connected on 19 of 24 free throws, pulled down 31 rebounds, and scored nine points off 18 Frankfort turnovers.  Frankfort shot 22.6% from the field including three of 19 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Panthers connected on 13 of 25 free throws, pulled down 40 rebounds, and scored 11 points off 22 Bishop Brossart turnovers.  Frankfort attempted 23 more shots (53-30) from the field than Bishop Brossart.

Nicole Kiernan dominated for Newport Central Catholic with 31 points, 15 rebounds, and five blocked shots.  Kiernan was 10 of 15 from the field and 11 of 16 free throws.  Stephanie Lewis added seven points and five rebounds.  Alexus Mayes recorded six points and six rebounds.

 

Mariah Herrera led Webster County with 11 points, five rebounds, and three steals.  6-2 So. Kristin Keeney added seven points.  Darrian McNary chipped in with five points and five rebounds.  Bailey Townsend pulled down seven rebounds.

Mikkah Hignite led Gallatin County with 16 points including four three point baskets, nine rebounds, and three steals.  Hannah Dossett added 12 points including three three point baskets and five assists.  Kelsea Satchwell chipped in with 11 points and three steals.  Brooke Dossett recorded nine points, five rebounds, and four assists.

Owensboro Catholic led 23-21 at halftime and shot a sizzling 68.4% from the field in the second half to pull away for a 53-36 victory over Monroe County.  Owensboro Catholic shot 52.4% from the field including five of 11 from the three point line.  The Lady Aces connected on four of five free throws, pulled down 27 rebounds, and scored 11 points off 10 Monroe County turnovers.  Monroe County shot 31.7% from the field including four of 13 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Falcons connected on six of eight free throws, pulled down 20 rebounds, and scored nine points off 11 Owensboro Catholic turnovers.

 

Rebecca Greenwell led Owensboro Catholic with 19 points including three three point baskets, 11 rebounds, and three assists.  Kaylyn Pearson added 11 points and five rebounds.  Destiny Howard chipped in with nine points and six rebounds.

Newport Central Catholic coach George Stoll started the following lineup: 5-8 So. Alexus Mayes, 5-5 Jr. Stephanie Lewis, 5-10 Jr. Nicole Kiernan, 5-3 So. Michaela Ware, and 5-5 So. Loren Zimmerman.  Bishop Brossart coach Josh Feldmann countered with 5-10 Sr. Rachel Hartig, 5-9 Sr. Maria Greis, 6-0 Jr. Sarah Futscher, 5-6 Jr. Kayla Young, and 5-8 Jr. Abby Stadtmiller.

 

Newport Central Catholic held an 18-0 advantage in second chance points in a 63-37 victory over Bishop Brossart.  Newport Central Catholic shot 36.8% from the field including eight of 30 from the three point line.  The Thoroughbreds connected on 13 of 21 free throws, pulled down 47 rebounds, and scored six points off eight Bishop Brossart turnovers.  Bishop Brossart shot 27.3% from the field including four of 14 from beyond the arc.  The Lady ‘Stangs connected on three of nine free throws, pulled down 37 rebounds, and scored zero points off six Newport Central Catholic turnovers.

 

Alexus Mayes led Newport Central Catholic with 17 points and eight rebounds.  Stephanie Lewis added 14 points and eight rebounds.  Nicole Kiernan recorded eight points, 19 rebounds, and six blocked shots.  5-2 Fr. Ansley Davenport added nine points on three three point baskets.

 

Sarah Futscher led Bishop Brossart with 13 points, nine rebounds, and five blocked shots.  Abby Stadtmiller added eight points including two three point baskets.  5-6 Jr. Madison Eisenman chipped in with eight points and five rebounds.

Autumn Bowen, and 5-6 Jr. Kelsea Satchwell.

 

Owensboro Catholic defeated Gallatin County by a score of 73-60.  Owensboro Catholic shot 53.1% from the field including three of 12 from the three point line.  The Lady Aces connected on 18 of 23 free throws, pulled down 36 rebounds, and scored 15 points off 11 Gallatin County turnovers.  Owensboro Catholic held a 14-3 advantage in second effort points.  Gallatin County shot 46.2% from the field including eight of 26 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Wildcats connected on four of eight free throws, pulled down 18 rebounds, and scored 18 points off 16 Owensboro Catholic turnovers.

 

Kaylyn Pearson led Owensboro Catholic with 24 points, eight rebounds, and three steals.  Pearson was 11 of 12 from the field and two of three from the free throw line.  Rebecca Greenwell added 19 points including three three point baskets, seven rebounds, and five assists.  Destiny Howard recorded 13 points, eight rebounds, and three assists.

 

Hannah Dossett led Gallatin County with 25 points including four three point baskets, six rebounds, and three assists.  Brooke Dossett added 19 points including three three point baskets and three assists.

Owensboro Catholic captured the championship with a 52-42 victory over Newport Central Catholic.  Owensboro Catholic shot 47.5% from the field including two of five from the three point line.  The Lady Aces connected on 12 of 19 free throws, pulled down 37 rebounds, and scored nine points off 11 Newport Central Catholic turnovers.  Newport Central Catholic shot 32.7% from the field including three of 19 from beyond the arc.  The Thoroughbreds connected on seven of seven free throws, pulled down 23 rebounds, and scored 13 points off 15 Owensboro Catholic turnovers.

 

Kaylyn Pearson led Owensboro Catholic with 18 points, six rebounds, three assists, and four steals.  Rebecca Greenwell added 17 points including two three point baskets, 15 rebounds, and three assists.  Leah Greathouse chipped in with nine points, four rebounds, and four assists.

 

Nicole Kiernan led Newport Central Catholic with 15 points, nine rebounds, and two blocked shots.  Stephanie Lewis added eight points including two three point baskets.  Alexus Mayes chipped in with eight points and three steals.  Michaela Ware recorded seven points and five assists.
