Fifth Annual National High School Invitational (NHSI) Boys & Girls

Georgetown Preparatory School’s Hanley Center for Athletic Excellence

Eight boys’ and four girls’ high school teams are scheduled to play in this event.  The event organizer Paragon Marketing Group’s selection committee made the selections based on the ESPN25 Power Rankings and all of the schools must be four-year high schools with no post-graduate or fifth year players on the roster, and must have their respective governing body’s permission to participate in the event.

 

Boys

 

Findlay Prep (Henderson, NV) – 34-0 ESPN Power Ranking #1.  Coach Todd Simon’s team has flown more than 20,000 miles and logged 1,400 miles on the ground this season for events and eight of the nine seniors have committed to major programs.  Key players include 6-4 Sr. Nigel Williams-Goss, 6-4 Sr. Allerik Freeman, 6-3 Sr. Stanford Robinson, and 6-11 Sr. Christian Wood.

 

Montverde Academy (Montverde, FL) – 21-2 ESPN Power Ranking #2.  Coach Kevin Boyle’s Eagles played a very challenging schedule but played their last regular game on a January 27th .  Key players include 6-1 Sr. Kasey Hill, 6-11 Sr. Dakari Johnson, 6-8 Sr. Devin Williams, and 6-4 Jr. D’Angelo Russell.

 

Prime Prep (Dallas,TX) – 36-0 ESPN Power Ranking #4.  Coach Ray Forsett’s first-year program burst on the national scene with elite talent and aggressive scheduling.  Key players include 6-8 Sr. Jordan Mickey (16 ppg, 10 rpg), 6-10 Sr. Karviar Shepherd (9 rpg), 6-4 Jr. Emmanuel Mudiay (14 ppg), and 6-9 So. Elijah Thomas (10 ppg).

 

St. Benedict’s Prep (Newark, NJ) – 27-1 ESPN Power Ranking #5.  Coach Mark Taylor’s Gray Bees averaged 83 ppg on offense this season.  Key players include 6-2 Sr. Tyler Ennis (20.8 ppg, 6.1 apg), 6-8 Sr. Michael Young (16 ppg, 8.3 rpg). 6-3 So. Isaiah Briscoe (15.8 ppg, 5.1 apg), and 6-8 Sr. Denzell Taylor ( 9 rpg).

 

LaLumiere School (LaPorte, IN) – 25-3 (still has remaining games on their schedule) ESPN Power Ranking #8.  Coach Alan Huss’ Lakers has players from six states and three foreign countries on the roster.  Key players include 6-5 Sr. Detrick Mostella (18.5 ppg), 6-11 Jr. Johnathon Wilkins (9.5 ppg, 12.5 rpg), and 6-6 Jr. Sam Logwood (18.5 ppg).

 

Blanche Ely (Pompano Beach, FL) – 27-1 ESPN Power Ranking #9.  Coach Melvin Randall’s Tigers captured their second straight Class 7A state championship.  Key players include 6-3 Jr. Richard Lee, 6-3 Sr. Dallas Cameron (10.8 ppg, 6.4 apg), 6-8 Sr. Kahlil Thomas (13 ppg, 13 rpg), and 5-11 Jr. Lance Tejada Jr.

 

Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, VA) – 33-5 ESPN Power Ranking #19.  Coach Steve Smith’s Warriors visited 10 different states and finished the season with nine consecutive victories.  Key players include 6-5 Sr. Sindarius Thornwell (15 ppg), 6-6 Sr. Troy Williams (15 ppg), 6-1 Sr. Nate Britt, and 6-5 Sr. R.J. Currington (15 ppg).

 

Montrose Christian (Rockville MD) – 19-4 ESPN Power Ranking #25.  Coach Stu Vetters’ team finished the season with nine consecutive victories.  Key players include 6-6 Sr. Ishmail Wainright (10 ppg, 9.4 rpg, and 8.6 apg) and 6-8 Sr. Mark Williams (16 ppg, 10.3).

Thursday April 4th

 

Prime Prep 66  Blanche Ely 65 (OT) (Quarterfinal) – Blanche Ely called a timeout with none available and was assessed a technical foul with seconds remaining in the game.  Jordan Mickey hit two free throws giving Prime Prep the victory.  Mickey led the victors with 28 points, eight rebounds, and eight blocked shots.  Karviar Shepherd added 16 points.  Kahlil Thomas led Blanche Ely with 20 points and nine rebounds.

 

Montverde Academy 77  Oak Hill Academy 71 (OT) (Quarterfinal)Dakari Johnson led the victors with 17 points, 13 rebounds, and seven blocked shots.  6-9 So. Ben Simmons who was recently ruled eligible added 16 points and seven rebounds.  Kasey Hill dished out 10 assists.  Sindarius Thornwell led Oak Hill Academy with 16 points.  Nate Britt added 15 points and six assists.

 

St. Benedict’s Prep 73  LaLumiere 60 (Quarterfinal) – St. Benedict’s pulled away in the second half for the victory.  Tyler Ennis led the victors with 22 points.  Michael Young added 17 points and nine rebounds.  Denzell Taylor recorded 11 points and 13 rebounds.  Detrick Mostella led LaLumiere with 25 points.

 

Findlay Prep 57  Montrose Christian 53 (Quarterfinal)Nigel Williams-Goss led a furious comeback as Findlay Prep erased an eight point deficit with five minutes left in the game.  Williams-Goss led the victors with 26 points.  Ishmail Wainright led Montrose Christian with 21 points.

 

Friday April 5th

 

Montverde Academy 57  Prime Prep 55 (Semifinal) D’Angelo Russell hit two free throws with 6.6 seconds remaining to give Montverde Academy the victory.  Russell led the victors with 20 points.

 

St. Benedict’s Prep 60  Findlay Prep 57 (Semifinal)Tyler Ennis led the victors with 19 points.  Isaiah Briscoe added 14 points and Denzell Taylor recorded nine points and 12 rebounds.  Nigel Williams-Goss led Findlay Prep with 20 points and Stanford Robinson added 13 points.

 

Saturday April 6th

 

Montverde Academy 67  St. Benedict’s Prep 65 (Championship) – Montverde Academy trailed 16 points in the first half but captured the title on a three point basket by 6-0 Jr. Jalyn Patterson in the closing seconds.  Tyler Ennis had previously gave St. Benedict’s a 65-64 lead with a three pointer.  Kasey Hill led Montverde Academy with 19 points, six rebounds, and five assists.  Dakari Johnson was named Tournament MVP and added 18 points and eight rebounds.  Michael Young led St. Benedict’s Prep with 19 points and 11 rebounds.  Tyler Ennis added 15 points, six rebounds, and five assists.  Isaiah Briscoe chipped in with 11 points.

Girls

 

Archbishop Spalding (Severn, MD) – 28-1 Coach William “Booksie” Rosemond’s Cavaliers captured the IAAM Conference A Championship this season.  Key players include 6-0 Sr. Jade Scaife (13.2 ppg), 5-11 Sr. Camille Calhoun (8.8 ppg), and 5-4 Sr. Aleah Epps (8.6 ppg).

 

Dr. Phillips (Orlando FL) – 29-3 Coach Anthony Jones’ team captured their third FHSAA Class 8A Championships in a row and was blessed with great depth this year.  They lost 5-7 Jr. Taryn Griffey with an ACL injury and was also without the services of 6-3 Sr. Arianna Crumbie who was not available for this event because of a knee injury.  They were led by 5-7 Sr. Sydnei McCaskill and 5-9 Sr. Hannah Schaible.

 

Life Center Academy (Burlington, NJ) – 28-2 Coach Ron Kessler’s Lady Warriors captured the National Association of Christian Athletes Division 1 National Championship.  Key players include 6-0 So. Aliyah Jeune (14 ppg), 5-9 Jr. Ashli Jeune (9.6 ppg), and 6-2 Jr. Aja Ellison.

 

Dillard (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) – 28-2 Coach Marcia Pinder’s Lady Panthers captured their fourth straight Class 5A Championship this season.  Key players include 5-10 Sr. Kayla Wright and 5-8 Sr. Eva Myers.

 

Friday April 5th

 

Archbishop Spalding 60  Dillard 51 (Semifinal) Jade Scaife and 5-7 Sr. Torri Chestnut led a balanced Archbishop Spalding attack with 11 points each.  Kayla Wright led Dillard with 19 points and six rebounds.  Eva Myers added 12 points.

 

Dr. Phillips 65  Life Center Academy 58 (Semifinal) Sydnei McCaskill led Dr. Phillips with 19 points and eight assists.  Hannah Schaible added 16 points and 11 rebounds.  Dr. Phillips recorded nine three pointers in this contest.

 

Saturday April 6th

 

Dr. Phillips 62  Archbishop Spalding 45 (Championship) Hannah Schaible led Dr. Phillips with 19 points, 10 rebounds, and eight assists and was named Tournament MVP.  5-11 Jr. Matea Britvar added 16 points and Sydnei McCaskill chipped in with 15 points.  Jade Scaife led Archbishop Spalding with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
