The All “A” Classic included four girls teams in 1991.  The 1992 version expanded to include eight teams and in 1993 the tournament again expanded to include a full complement of 16 teams.  Winners crowned to date are 1991 Cumberland, 1992 Cumberland, 1993 Nicholas County, 1994 Louisville Holy Cross, 1995 Monroe County, 1996 Louisville Holy Cross, 1997 Hazard, 1998 Hazard, 1999 Bishop Brossart, 2000 Somerset, 2001 Jackson County, 2002 Jackson County, 2003 Clinton County, 2004 Clinton County, 2005 Christian Academy of Louisville, 2006 Monroe County, 2007 Lexington Christian Academy, 2008 Lexington Christian Academy, 2009 Lexington Christian Academy, 2010 Newport Central Catholic, and 2011 Owensboro Catholic.

 

Wednesday January 25th

 

Lexington Christian Academy  (Region 11)  vs.  Green County  (Region 5)

 

Lexington Christian Academy coach Jason Seamands started the following lineup: 5-8 So. Katelin Bundy, 5-7 Jr. Kristin Rinehart, 6-1 Sr. Kristen Jacob, 5-6 8th grader Hannah Hartley, and 5-4 Sr. Kelli Mitchuson.  Green County coach Chris Blaydes countered with 5-8 Sr. Micah Jones, 5-9 Fr. Kali Hedgespeth, 5-9 So. Allie Ingram, 5-7 So. Kayla Bale, and 5-8 Jr. Rachel Marr.

 

Green County outscored Lexington Christian Academy 16-7 in the third quarter on their way to a 60-44 victory.  Green County shot 39.2% from the field including two of nine from the three point line.  The Lady Dragons connected on 18 of 27 free throws, pulled down 32 rebounds, and scored 27 points off 22 LCA turnovers.  LCA shot 40.9% from the field including three of 12 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Eagles connected on five of 10 free throws, pulled down 32 rebounds, and scored nine points off eight Green County turnovers.

 

Micah Jones led Green County with 32 points, seven rebounds, and four steals.  Kali Hedgespeth added 11 points and seven rebounds.  Kayla Bale chipped in with eight points.

 

Katelin Bundy led LCA with 24 points including three three point baskets.  Kristen Jacob added nine points and 10 rebounds.  Kristin Rinehart chipped in with five points and 10 rebounds.

Newport Central Catholic defeated Owsley County by a score of 69-32.  Newport Central Catholic shot 45.6% from the field including zero of eight from the three point line.  The Thoroughbreds connected on seven of 16 free throws, pulled down 42 rebounds, and scored 28 points off 22 Owsley County turnovers.  NCC attempted 25 (68-43) more shots from the field than Owsley County.  Owsley County shot 27.9% from the field including two of six from beyond the arc.  The Lady Owls connected on six of 13 free throws, pulled down 33 rebounds, and scored four points off six NCC turnovers.

 

Nicole Kiernan led Newport Central Catholic with 20 points and 13 rebounds.  Jamie Kohls added 14 points on seven of eight from the field.  Olivia Huber chipped in with nine points.  Aubrey Muench recorded eight points, four rebounds, six assists, and four steals.

 

Peyton Wright led Owsley County with 13 points and 14 rebounds.  Peyton Thomas and Courtney Brandenburg added nine and eight points respectively.

Holy Cross raced out to a 16-5 first quarter lead on their way to a 48-35 victory over Raceland.  Holy Cross scored 25 points off 23 Raceland turnovers.  Holy Cross shot 38.3% from the field including four of 13 from the three point line.  The Lady Cougars connected on eight of 10 free throws and pulled down 28 rebounds.  Raceland shot 40% from the field including six of 16 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Rams connected on five of six free throws, pulled down 22 rebounds, and scored 10 points off 13 Holy Cross turnovers.

 

Sydney Morabito led Holy Cross with 17 points including three three point baskets and six rebounds.  Maya Hardin and Kim Mingus added eight and seven points respectively.

 

Micah Leslie led Raceland with 15 points on five three point baskets.  Brooke Gee added six points, 10 rebounds, and two blocked shots.

Harlan led 21-11 at halftime but bishop Brossart outscored the Lady Dragons 43-10 in the second half to earn a 54-31 victory.  Bishop Brossart only shot 15.8% from the field in the first half while Harlan only shot 18.8% from the field in the second half.  Bishop Brossart shot 37.2% from the field including three of five from the three point line.  The Lady Stangs connected on 19 of 28 free throws, pulled down 28 rebounds, and scored 22 points off 31 Harlan turnovers.  Harlan shot 34.2% from the field including three of nine from beyond the arc.  The Lady Dragons connected on two of seven free throws, pulled down 29 rebounds, and scored 14 points off 14 Bishop Brossart turnovers.

 

Sarah Futscher led Bishop Brossart with 19 points and eight rebounds.  5-6 So. Madison Eisenman added 10 points and five steals.

 

Ashley Mullins led Harlan with 16 points, eight rebounds, and six blocked shots.  Kelly Cox and Jourdan Ledford added seven and six points respectively.

Magoffin County defeated University Heights Academy by a score of 75-67.  Magoffin County shot 42.5% from the field including three of 12 from the three point line.  The Lady Hornets connected on 10 of 15 free throws, pulled down 35 rebounds, and scored 27 points off 27 University Heights turnovers.  Magoffin County attempted 31 more shots (73-42) from the field than the Lady Blazers.  University Heights shot 57.1% from the field including two of two from the three point line.  The Lady Blazers connected on 17 of 22 free throws, pulled down 31 rebounds, and scored 20 points off 16 Magoffin County turnovers.

 

Jamie Castle led Magoffin County with 26 points, four rebounds, four assists, and six steals.  5-4 8th grader Jassmine Howard added 13 points, four assists, and seven steals.  Nicole Fletcher chipped in with 12 points.  Madison Reed recorded 10 points, 11 rebounds, and four steals.  Morgan Arnett also reached double figures with 10 points.

 

Denayia Holmes led University Heights with 24 points and four steals.  Dannika Prater added 17 points.  Cache Richardson chipped in with eight points and nine rebounds.

Leah Greathouse led Owensboro Catholic with 12 points.  Laura Riney added 10 points.  Haley Garvin chipped in with nine points.  Destiny Howard recorded six points and 10 rebounds.

 

Janssen Starks led Murray with 18 points and four steals.  Haley Armstrong added 10 points.  Shelby Crouch chipped in with nine points and seven rebounds.

Walton-Verona scored 37 points off 31 Kentucky Country Day turnovers in an 82-41 victory.  Walton-Verona shot 44.3% from the field including 15 of 33 from the three point line.  The Bearcats connected on five of seven free throws, pulled down 30 rebounds, and held a 40-0 advantage in bench scoring.  Walton-Verona attempted 34 more shots (70-36) from the field than KCD.  KCD shot 38.9% from the field including four of six from beyond the arc.  The Bearcats connected on 29 rebounds, and scored three points off nine Walton-Verona turnovers.

 

Kara Taulbee led Walton-Verona with 25 points including six three point baskets.  5-6 Sr. Katie Slavey added 17 points including five three point baskets.  Courtney Sandlin chipped in with 11 points and six steals.  5-9 Jr. Liz McAdams recorded seven points and six rebounds.

 

Selbi Hendricks led KCD with 21 points including four three point baskets and seven rebounds.  Hendricks was six of nine from the field including four of five from the three point line and five of six from the free throw line.  Olivia Alford added 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Mary Kate Clemens led Owensboro Catholic with 20 points and 11 rebounds.  Destiny Howard added 12 points and 11 rebounds.  Leah Greathouse chipped in with 12 points and six rebounds.

Courtney Sandlin led Walton-Verona with 20 points and five rebounds.  Sandlin was nine of 12 from the field including one of two from the three point line, and one of one from the free throw line.  Kara Taulbee added 15 points on five three point baskets.  Taulbee was five of seven from the field.  Michele Judy and Molly Clinkenbeard chipped in with 11 and 10 points respectively.

Newport Central Catholic raced out to a 23-11 first quarter lead on their way to a 63-41 victory over Bishop Brossart.  Newport Central Catholic shot 48.1% from the field including one of five from the three point line.  The Thoroughbreds connected on 12 of 19 free throws, pulled down 39 rebounds, and scored 11 points off 14 Bishop Brossart turnovers.  Bishop Brossart shot 32.7% from the field including two of seven from beyond the arc.  The Lady Stangs connected on five of five free throws, pulled down 27 rebounds, and scored 13 points off 14 Newport Central Catholic turnovers.

 

Nicole Kiernan led Newport Central Catholic with 18 points, 14 rebounds, and four blocked shots.  Olivia Huber added 14 points, six rebounds, four assists, and three steals.  Aubrey Muench chipped in with 13 points and five rebounds.

Walton-Verona defeated Owensboro Catholic by a score of 60-44.  Walton-Verona shot 42.6% from the field including six of 18 from the three point line.  The Bearcats connected on 14 of 18 free throws, pulled down 32 rebounds, and scored 21 points off 16 Owensboro Catholic turnovers.  Owensboro Catholic shot 32.7% from the field including five of 16 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Aces connected on seven of eight free throws, pulled down 30 rebounds, and scored nine points off 13 Walton-Verona turnovers.

 

Michele Judy led Walton-Verona with 18 points, eight rebounds, and four blocked shots.  5-6 Sr. Katie Slavey added 13 points and three steals.  Courtney Sandlin chipped in with nine points and six rebounds.  Jenalee Ginn scored nine points on three three point baskets.

 

Mary Kate Clemens led Owensboro Catholic with 12 points.  Destiny Howard added 11 points and nine rebounds.

Walton-Verona coach Mark Clinkenbeard started the following lineup: 5-11 Jr. Courtney Sandlin. 5-9 Jr. Molly Clinkenbeard, 6-0 Jr. Michele Judy, 5-5 Sr. Jenalee Ginn, and 5-5 Sr. Kara Taulbee.  Newport Central Catholic coach Ron Dawn countered with 5-10 Sr. Jamie Kohls, 5-9 Sr. Aubrey Muench, 5-10 So. Nicole Kiernan, 5-4 Sr. Olivia Huber, and 5-7 Sr. Alex Schalk.

 

Walton-Verona captured the championship with a 38-36 overtime victory over Newport Central Catholic.  Newport Central Catholic’s Aubrey Muench hit one of two free throws with one second left in regulation to tie the score at 34-34 and force overtime.  Kara Taulbee hit a three point basket and Lizzie Hoffa hit a free throw in overtime to give Walton-Verona the victory.  Newport Central Catholic had a couple of attempts to tie or take the lead in the closing seconds but the shots would not fall.

 

Walton-Verona shot 41.7% from the field including five of 11 from the three point line.  The Bearcats connected on three of four free throws, pulled down 39 rebounds, and scored 11 points off 11 Newport Central Catholic turnovers.  Newport Central Catholic shot 21.2% from the field including two of 19 from beyond the arc.  The Thoroughbreds connected on 12 of 19 free throws, pulled down 30 rebounds, and scored 17 points off 23 Walton-Verona turnovers.  Newport Central Catholic attempted 16 more shots (52-36) from the field than Walton-Verona.

 

Kara Taulbee led Walton-Verona with 11 points including three three point baskets.  Michele Judy added eight points 14 rebounds, and four blocked shots.  Courtney Sandin recorded six points and six rebounds.  Jenalee Ginn recorded five points, seven rebounds, and four assists.
