Covington Catholic Coach Mike Listerman started the following lineup: 6-3 Sr. Luke Maile, 6-2 Sr. Trevor Sorrell, 6-4 Jr. Trevor Wellbrock, 5-11 Sr. Mitch Shover, and 5-11 Sr. Alex Ives. Lexington Catholic Coach Brandon Salsman countered with 6-3 So. Scott Schuette, 6-3 So. Taylor Martin, 6-7 Jr. Tanner Peurach, 6-3 Sr. Taylor Botkin, and 6-3 Sr. Vee Sanford.
Lexington Catholic pulled away late in the final minutes to defeat Covington Catholic 69-60. Lexington Catholic led 45-32 in the third quarter but Covington Catholic pulled to within three points late in the game before the Knights rallied to regain control of the game.
Lexington Catholic shot 50.9% from the field including seven of 23 from the three point line. The Knights connected on four of 16 free throws, pulled down 35 rebounds, and scored 20 points off 23 Covington Catholic turnovers. Covington Catholic shot 36.5% from the field including five of 24 from beyond the arc. The Colonels connected on nine of 10 free throws, grabbed 40 rebounds, and scored 23 points off 20 Lexington Catholic turnovers.
Vee Sanford led Lexington Catholic with 30 points and six rebounds. Taylor Botkin and 6-0 Fr. Jaylen Beckham added 13 and nine points respectively. Tanner Peurach pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds. Luke Maile led Covington Catholic with 23 points, 11 rebounds, and five steals. Trevor Sorrell and Alex Ives added eight and seven points respectively.
