Lexington Catholic (23-1) at Scott County (22-1)
Lexington Catholic coach Greg Todd started the following lineup: 5-10 So. Natalie Novosel, 5-7 So. Briana Green, 6-0 Sr. Anaris Sickles, 5-7 Jr. Keyla Snowden, and 5-8 Sr. Nikki Davis. Scott County coach Steve Helton countered with 6-0 Sr. Suzie Owens, 5-11 Jr. Rebecca Gray, 6-1 Jr. Holly Milburn, 5-5 So. Kayla Moses, and 5-6 Sr. Chelsia Lymon.
These two high school heavyweights slugged it out tonight for regular season bragging rights and Lexington Catholic came away with a hard-earned 82-77 victory over Scott County. It is quite possible that this is merely round one and they may face each other again in the regional tournament. Each team punched and counter-punched tonight as there were 13 lead changes and nine ties during the game. Scott County held their last lead 59-58 with 50 seconds remaining in the third quarter. Lexington Catholic then went on a 10-0 run to take a 68-59 lead with 7:02 remaining in the game. The Lady Knights kept their advantage and held on for the victory.
Lexington Catholic held a 45-36 advantage in rebounds as Scott County lost three inside players (Holly Milburn, Suzie Owens, and Ausha Weathers) via the foul route. Natalie Novosel fouled out for Lexington Catholic. Neither team was especially proficient from the free throw line as Lexington Catholic was 19 of 33 (57.6%) and Scott County was 13 of 23 (56.5) from the charity stripe.
Lexington Catholic shot 51.7% from the field including three of nine from beyond the arc. The Lady Knights scored 11 points off 11 Scott County turnovers. Scott County shot 43.7% from the field including two of 19 from the three point line. Scott County scored 20 points off 19 Lexington Catholic turnovers. Scott County attempted 13 more shots (71-58) than Lexington Catholic.
Anaris Sickles led Lexington Catholic with 24 points and 12 rebounds. Nikki Davis added 20 points, six rebounds, and seven assists. Briana Green chipped in with 13 points. Natalie Novosel recorded 10 points, eight rebounds, and five assists. Chelsia Lymon led Scott County with 21 points, five rebounds, and seven assists. Rebecca Gray and Kayla Moses added 18 and 16 points respectively. Suzie Owens chipped in with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
