Bryan Station coach Champ Ligon started the following lineup: 6-5 Jr. Jaron Jones, 6-3 Jr. Stefan Lewis, 6-6 Sr. Justin Jones, 5-11 Sr. De’ire Foxx, and 6-2 So. Shelvin Mack. Sayre coach Gene Kirk countered with 6-2 Jr. Trae Cunningham, 5-11 Sr. Chris Scott, 6-2 Sr. Bush Gess, 5-10 Sr. Will Campbell, and 5-7 Jr. Dee Smith.
Sayre held a 27-26 advantage in the first half but Bryan Station rallied to take a 34-27 lead at halftime. It was all Bryan Station in the second half as the Defenders outscored the Spartans 51-33 on their way to an 85-60 victory. Bryan Station’s depth took its toll as 14 Defenders saw action with 10 players cracking the scoring column.
Bryan Station shot 49.3% from the field, connected on nine of 12 free throws, and pulled down 34 rebounds. The Defenders scored 29 points off 25 Sayre turnovers. Bryan Station held a 23-6 advantage on second chance points and a 32-2 advantage in bench scoring. Sayre shot 46.5% from the field, connected on 17 of 25 free throws and grabbed 27 rebounds. Bryan Station attempted 32 (75-43) more field goal attempts than Sayre.
Jaron Jones led Bryan Station with 16 points. Stefan Lewis added 12 points and seven rebounds. Shelvin Mack, De’ire Foxx, and 6-2 Kearney Demus chipped in with 11, 10, and 10 points respectively. Chris Scott led Sayre with 18 points. Dee Smith, Bush Gess, and Trae Cunningham added 14, 14, and 12 points respectively.
