Assumption (20-3) vs. Lexington Catholic (22-1)

Assumption coaches Bob and Martha Todd started the following lineup:  6-1 So. Lauren Huter, 5-8 Jr. Eileen Kennedy, 6-1 Sr. Amber Norton, 5-8 Sr. Liz Todd, and 5-10 Sr. Kelly Mitchell.  Lexington Catholic coach Greg Todd countered with 5-10 So. Natalie Novosel, 5-7 So. Briana Green, 6-0 Sr. Anaris Sickles, 5-7 Jr. Keyla Snowden, and 5-8 Sr. Nikki Davis.

Lexington Catholic shot 70.3% from the field in the first half and raced out to a 61-28 halftime lead on their way to an 88-60 victory over Assumption.  The Lady Knights led 35-15 at the first quarter stop, led by Briana Green with 11 points.  Lexington Catholic scored 25 points off 18 Assumption turnovers in the first half.  The Lady Knights relaxed the pressure in the second half and Assumption held a 32-27 advantage after halftime.

Lexington Catholic shot 59.7% from the field including four of five from beyond the arc.  The Lady Knights connected on 10 of 13 free throws, pulled down 21 rebounds, and scored 31 points off 24 Assumption turnovers.  Assumption shot 46.8% from the field including five of 13 from the three point line.  The Rockets connected on 11 of 16 free throws and grabbed 32 rebounds.

Briana Green led Lexington Catholic with 27 points, five rebounds, and five assists.  Keyla Snowden added 20 points including four of five from the three point line.  Nikki Davis chipped in with 15 points, eight assists, and five steals.

Amber Norton led Assumption with 20 points and five rebounds.  Liz Todd added 13 points including three of five from beyond the arc.  Kelly Mitchell chipped in with 10 points, five rebounds, and five assists.  Assumption did receive one “silver lining” as 6-1 Jr. star Thia Gholson was cleared to play following an injury and logged 6:53 of playing time tonight.
