Woodford County (23-1) at Scott County (23-2) (Girls)
Woodford County coach Jay Lucas started the following lineup: 5-7 Jr. Amber Penny, 5-7 Jr. Brittany Henderlight, 5-11 Sr. Emily Freibert, 5-7 8th grader Katy Cooke, and 5-9 Sr. Destiny Mattingly. Scott County coach Steve Helton countered with 5-10 So. Rebecca Gray, 6-1 So. Holly Milburn, 6-0 Sr. Aimee Bruckner, 5-6 Sr. Michelle Howard, and 5-6 Jr. Chelsea Lymon. (Note: Scott County was playing short-handed tonight as 5-4 Fr. Kayla Moses was not available due to a knee injury, and 5-7 So. Brillia Garr, 5-9 Jr. Ausha Weathers, and 6-0 Jr. Suzie Owens were not available due to violation of team rules.)
Scott County led 39-33 at halftime but Woodford County coach Jay Lucas switched to a triangle-and-two defense in the second half to pull out a 67-60 victory. The defense helped hold the high-scoring duo of Chelsea Lymon and Rebecca Gray to a total of 14 points in the second half.
Woodford County raced out to an 11-2 lead in the first quarter before Scott County rallied late to pull within two, 20-18, at the end of the first quarter. Scott County’s Chelsea Lymon scored 13 points in the second quarter to lead her team to a 39-33 lead at the intermission. Woodford County was hampered by foul woes as both Destiny Mattingly and Brittany Henderlight picked up their third personal fouls with over seven minutes remaining in the second quarter. Chelsea Lymon and Rebecca Gray led Scott County with 17 and 13 points respectively in the first half. Katy Cooke and Brittany Henderlight paced Woodford County coach Jay Lucas with nine points each.
Woodford County changed up on defenses and began their comeback in the third quarter despite continued foul problems. Scott County led 54-52 at the end of three quarters. Destiny Mattingly scored the first seven Woodford County points in the final period and gave the Lady Yellowjackets a 59-56 lead—a lead they would not relinquish. Scott County pulled to within one, 61-60, on a field goal by 5-7 Jr. Sam Norman, but Woodford County hit enough free throws down the stretch to ensure the victory.
Destiny Mattingly led Woodford County with 22 points including 15 points in the second half. Brittany Henderlight added 15 points including four three point baskets. Katy Cooke chipped in with 12 points and played a good floor game. Chelsea Lymon led Scott County with 26 points. Rebecca Gray added 18 points. Holly Milburn scored only four points but pulled down 12 rebounds. Sam Norman came off the bench to add two points and pull down 10 rebounds.
