Scott County (24-3) vs. Lexington Catholic (23-1)
Scott County coach Steve Helton started the following lineup: 6-0 Jr. Suzie Owens, 5-10 So. Rebecca Gray, 6-0 Sr. Aimee Bruckner, 5-6 Sr. Michelle Howard, and 5-6 Jr. Chelsea Lymon. Lexington Catholic coach Greg Todd countered with 5-9 Sr. Adaeze Azubuike, 6-0 Jr. Anaris Sickles, 6-1 Sr. Shannon Novosel, 5-6 So. Keyla Snowden, and 5-8 Jr. Nikki Davis.
Lexington Catholic shot 64.5% from the field in the first half in running up a 52-28 lead on their way to an 82-68 victory over Scott County. Scott County could not find the basket, only shooting 29.4% in the first half and Lexington Catholic utilized a very efficient offense featuring excellent interior passing by Shannon Novosel to build a comfortable halftime cushion.
The Lady Knights continued their stellar play in the third quarter, increasing their lead to 27, 72-45, at the end of three quarters. Scott County never gave up and outscored Lexington Catholic 23-10 in the final period to make the final deficit 14, 82-68. The Cardinals found themselves in a deep hole in the first half and despite a spirited late rally could not overccome, on at least this day, an insurmountable deficit.
Lexington Catholic shot 53.7% from the field, connected on 19 of 28 free throws, and pulled down 40 rebounds. The Lady Knights scored 23 points off 19 Scott County turnovers and held a 34-13 advantage in bench scoring. Scott County shot 31.6% from the field, connected on 15 of 19 free throws, and pulled down 44 rebounds. The Cardinals scored 17 points off 22 Lexington Catholic turnovers.
Anaris Sickles led Lexington Catholic with 20 points on seven of seven from the field and six of eight from the free throw line. 5-6 Fr. Briana Green and 5-10 Fr. Natalie Novosel added 15 points each and Keyla Snowden chipped in with 10 points. Shannon Novosel added nine points, pulled down 12 rebounds, and dished out eight assists. Sickles and Shannon Novosel were also active on the defensive end with five and three blocked shots respectively.
Chelsea Lymon led Scott County with 20 points and six rebounds. Rebecca Gray added 14 points but was only four of 22 from the field. Although Gray's shot was not falling she continued to work hard, dishing out five assists and recording four steals. Suzie Owens was a warrior inside tonight as she tallied 13 points and pulled down 19 rebounds.
