Lexington Catholic (18-6) at South Laurel (21-3)
Lexington Catholic coach Curtis Turley started the following lineup: 6-2 Sr. P. J. Wilson, 6-0 Jr. Cornell Burbage, 6-5 Sr. Rob Riddell, 6-2 Sr. Joe Boneau, and 6-2 Jr. Brian Hewitt. South Laurel coach Steve Wright countered with 6-4 Jr. Walt Allen, 6-4 So. Jordan Hammonds, 6-8 Sr. Eric Fields, 6-0 Sr. D. J. Perkins, and 6-3 So. Ty Proffitt.
Lexington Catholic utilized excellent half court defense and 55.6% shooting from the field to defeat the number one ranked team in the state South Laurel by a score of 73-57. Lexington Catholic led 35-31 at halftime and outscored South Laurel 18-10 in the third quarter to take a 53-41 lead entering the final period. South Laurel closed within nine, 58-49, with 4:55 remaining in the game but Lexington Catholic outscored them 15-8 the remainder of the game to capture the 73-57 decision.
Lexington Catholic shot 55.6% from the field, including six of 14 from the three point line. The Knights connected on seven of 14 free throws, pulled down 34 rebounds, and scored 24 points off 18 South Laurel turnovers. South Laurel shot 36% from the field including eight of 23 from beyond the arc. The Cardinals connected on 13 of 24 free throws and grabbed 34 rebounds. They scored 18 points off 14 Lexington Catholic turnovers and held a 16-0 advantage in bench scoring.
Brian Hewitt led Lexington Catholic with 25 points including five three point baskets and pulled down seven rebounds. Joe Boneau added 17 points and dished out seven assists. Boneau was seven of seven from the field and three of three from the free throw line. P. J. Wilson added 15 points and eight rebounds and Cornell Burbage chipped in with 12 points.
Ty Proffitt and Jordan Hammonds led South Laurel with 11 and 10 points respectively. Eric Fields added nine points and nine rebounds while Walt Allen scored eight points and pulled down nine rebounds.
