Henry Clay (9-5) at Tates Creek (10-2) (Girls)
Henry Clay coach Scott Cromwell started the following lineup: 5-9 Jr. Erica Coleman, 5-7 So. Brittany Bibbs, 6-0 Fr. Gwen Rucker, 5-5 Fr. Demetria Nichols, and 5-5 Fr. Raven Price. Tates Creek coach Jan Ulmer countered with 5-8 Sr. Shaquita Dowlen, 5-7 Sr. Derrica Morton, 6-1 Sr. Kristen Pendleton, 5-7 Sr. Philnisha Lindsey, and 5-4 Sr. Ginneria Harley. (Note: 6-2 Sr. Brittany Pittman was missing today with flu-like symptoms.
Kristen Pendleton scored a career-high 25 points and pulled down 14 rebounds to lead Tates Creek to a 70-60 victory over a young but talented Henry Clay squad. The score was tied 10-10 at the end of the first quarter but Tates Creek, led by Kristen Pendleton's 11 second quarter points including seven free throws, took a 31-25 halftime lead. The game remained close in the second half until Tates Creek pulled away late to claim the victory. Tates Creek shot 50% from the field and was 21 of 28 from the free throw line while Henry Clay shot 33% from the field and connected on 12 of 19 free throws.
Philnisha Lindsey and Shaquita Dowlen scored 20 and 16 points respectively for the victors. Erica Coleman and Brittany Bibbs led Henry Clay with 16 and 11 points respectively. Raven Price added nine points and 6-0 Sr. Virginia Northcutt chipped in with eight points.
This was an excellent victory for the senior-dominated Tates Creek squad, who missed the services of Brittany Pittman but got excellent performances from several players and some quality minutes tonight from 6-2 Sr. Tiffany Dumas who tallied four points. The future is bright for Henry Clay who only has one senior on the roster and started one junior, one soph, and three freshmen.
