Scott County (21-2) vs. Lexington Catholic (19-6)
Scott County coach Billy Hicks started the following lineup: 6-5 Fr. Jordan Lee, 6-3 So. Rodney Haddix, 7-2 Sr. Jared Carter, 5-10 Jr. Jesse Thompson, and 6-3 So. Matt Walls. Lexington Catholic coach Curtis Turley countered with 6-2 Sr. P. J. Wilson, 6-0 Jr. Cornell Burbage, 6-5 Sr. Rob Riddell, 6-2 Sr. Joe Boneau, and 6-2 Jr. Brian Hewitt.
Lexington Catholic began the weekend by defeating number one South Laurel and concluded the weekend by beating number two ranked Scott County 77-71 tonight. Scott County took a 71-67 lead late in the game after three Lexington Catholic turnovers. Lexington Catholic's Brian Hewitt attempted a three point shot with 31 seconds left in the game and Matt Walls was charged with a foul which was disputed by the Scott County contingent. Hewitt nailed all three free throws, cutting the deficit to one, 71-70
Hewitt came up big again as he connected on a three point field goal with four seconds left on the clock to give Lexington Catholic a 73-71 lead. Scott County coach Billy Hicks was then assessed his second technical foul of the evening and was ejected from the game. Joe Boneau hit four free throws to ensure the victory.
Lexington Catholic shot 45.9% from the field, connected on 17 of 28 free throws, and pulled down 32 rebounds. The Knights scored 21 points off 19 Scott County turnovers. Scott County shot 52.2% from the field, connected on 19 of 28 free throws, and grabbed 35 rebounds. Scott County scored 17 points off 14 Lexington Catholic turnovers and held a 25-13 advantage in bench scoring.
Joe Boneau led the victors with 22 points including 10 of 13 free throws and dished out six assists. Cornell Burbage and Brian Hewitt added 16 and 14 points respectively. 6-6 Jr. Reid Brown came off the bench to add 11 points and eight rebounds. Jared Carter led a balanced Scott County attack with 14 points, 10 rebounds, and five blocked shots. Rodney Haddix, 6-3 Fr. Bud Mackey, and 5-8 Jr. Joe Siler added 13, 12, and 11 points respectively. Matt Walls chipped in with 10 points, nine rebounds, and five assists.
