personally and should be fairly accurate. Please understand that these are scrimmages, and coaches are experimenting
with substitution rotations and are using this event as a teaching tool and to prepare for the upcoming season.

This was an excellent day of pre-season basketball.
The coaches did an excellent job of using this event as a teaching tool and they managed to give as many players as
possible the opportunity to play on this floor. Some of these players will probably be back for the Sweet 16 in
March, but for many of these players it could be the only opportunity they will have to compete at Rupp Arena. I began
my love affair with basketball over 45 years ago on a small farm in Kentucky sitting around a coal stove on a cold winter evening listening to the exploits
of the Kentucky Wildcats on an old radio. It was a thrill for me to walk out on the floor the current Wildcats
call home before the games actually started on Saturday morning.
One of my first Wildcat heroes was Vernon Hatton, who
starred on the 1958 NCAA championship team. Everything tends to go in a full circle as his sons Terry and Steve run
the Kentucky Basketball Academy and his grandson Bryan is a member of the Paul
Dunbar team and was instrumental in their victory over Perry County Central
today.
There were too many teams and players to mention here but
there were some teams that appeared to be in mid-season form. Some teams were experimenting with player
rotations and several teams were still integrating players into the lineup that
have just finished the football season.
A special thanks to the Hatton family at the KBA and their
employees for undertaking the logistics of making this event work. Also, a note of appreciation to Ken Farley
the of the KBA for putting together an excellent media guide for the
event.
