Conclusion
This report is for entertainment purposes only and the statistics used here should not be considered official. I hurriedly gathered the statistics from the scoresheets after each game and apologize for any errors or misspellings of names.
Congratulations to Scott County and South Laurel for capturing their respective division championships this weekend. Matt Walls and Rodney Haddix led the Cardinals this week including the title game victory over a talented Bryan Station squad. Several players in this event pulled double duty as they were also key members of their teams’ varsity squads.
South Laurel parlayed a strong inside game to capture the championship and established themselves as one of the top teams in the state entering the 2004-2005 season. Pleasure Ridge Park played well despite not having the services of star guard Jajuan Spillman for most of the tourney. Scott County has a good mixture of returning veterans and young talent plus an imposing 7-0 shot blocker Jared Carter in the middle. Henry Clay should be strong this year with the addition of transfer Aaron Dunaway. Fern Creek graduated a lot of talent but they have a lot of talent returning for this season.
Bryan Station and Trinity should also be solid this season. Dunbar and Bourbon County played well during the tourney with both advancing to the final eight teams. Several top teams did not play in this event and the 2004-2005 season should be quite interesting with several teams challenging for the top spot.
There were many outstanding performances this week. Mercer County’s Jordan Lyons put up 51 points and 11 three point goals in a pool game over South Floyd. Scott County’s 7-0 Jared Carter stacked the stat line with 21 points, 16 rebounds, and 14 blocked shots in a victory over Henry Clay.
