Bullitt East closed the deficit to within seven points in the last quarter but Butler pulled away to claim a 62-47 victory. Butler shot 37.7% from the field, connected on 18 of 26 free throws, and pulled down 34 rebounds. Butler scored 17 points off 29 Bullitt East turnovers. Bullitt East shot 29.2% from the field, connected on 15 of 20 free throws, and grabbed 29 rebounds. Bullitt East scored 17 points off 21 Butler turnovers. Butler held an 11-4 advantage in bench scoring.
Butler was led today by Ashley Lewallen and Megan McGrath with 13 points each. Jenna Hedges added 11 points and dished out five assists. Mandy Evans chipped in with nine points and pulled down eight rebounds. Brittany Caple led Bullitt East with 17 points and six rebounds. Abby Thompson added 11 points and Katie Followell chipped in with nine points. Kasey Harrod only tallied four points but she pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds.

Wayne County cranked up the defensive intensity to defeat a talented Boone County squad 54-47. Wayne County shot 51.6% from the field, connected on 17 of 28 free throws, and pulled down 20 rebounds. Boone County shot 41.5% from the field, including five of 10 from beyond the arc. The Lady Rebels connected on eight of 15 free throws, and grabbed 28 rebounds.
Wayne County was led by Ashley Bell with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Kenita Ball added 11 points. Megan Fletcher and Renee Daily led Boone County with 16 and 12 points respectively. Alicia Williams and Katie Madden added eight and seven points respectively, with Madden pulling down nine rebounds.

Perry County Central could not find the range from the field tonight and lost to Lexington Catholic by a score of 54-40. Lexington Catholic shot 50% from the field, connected on 16 of 26 free throws, and pulled down 25 rebounds. Perry County Central only shot 27.5% from the field, including five of 30 (16.7%) in the first half. The Lady Commodores connected on 10 of 14 free throws, and grabbed 35 rebounds. Lexington Catholic scored 15 points off 21 Perry County Central turnovers, while Perry County Central scored 14 points off 18 Lexington Catholic miscues.
Anaris Sickles led the victors with 18 points, nine rebounds, and four steals. Keyla Snowden added 13 points. Polly Sebastian led Perry County Central with 18 points. Brittany Baker added 10 points and six rebounds while Britta Maggard chipped in with six points and 10 rebounds.

Paris shot 35% from the field, connected on eight of 12 free throws, and pulled down 25 rebounds. Paris scored 14 points off 24 Central Hardin turnovers while Central Hardin scored 17 points off 24 Paris miscues. Central Hardin shot 29% from the field, connected on 17 of 24 free throws, and grabbed 28 rebounds.
Iona Caulder led Paris tonight with 14 points. Taylor Christman and Jessica Williams added 12 and 10 points respectively. Lauren Flood led Central Hardin with 12 points. Amanda Miller added 11 points, 11 rebounds, and four steals.

Christian County shot 38.7% from the field, connected on nine of 16 free throws, and pulled down 30 rebounds. Rockcastle County shot 36.4% from the field, connected on nine of 15 free throws, and grabbed 39 rebounds. Rockcastle County was without the services of starting point guard 5-6 Jr. Johnna Abney who tore her ACL in the regional championship.
Arnika Brown led the victors with 24 points. Shaleea Petty and Lydia Watkins added 13 and 11 points respectively. Watkins also pulled down nine rebounds. Heather Hammond led Rockcastle County with 16 points and nine rebounds.

East Carter rallied from a late 41-40 deficit to defeat Pike County Central 48-42. East Carter led 40-29 at the end of three quarters. Pike County Central opened the final period with a 12-0 run to take the lead before East Carter responded with their winning rally.
East Carter shot 29.3% from the field, including only one of 16 from the three point line. The Lady Raiders connected on 13 of 20 free throws, and pulled down 34 rebounds. East Carter scored 24 points off 27 Pike County Central turnovers. Pike County Central shot 40% from the field, connected on six of 10 free throws, and grabbed 35 rebounds. Pike County Central scored 16 points off 16 East Carter turnovers
Kim Stapleton led the victors with 16 points, eight rebounds, and four steals. Ashley Baldwin added 12 points. Pike County Central was led by Haley Ratliff with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Paige Lowe added 12 points.

Sacred Heart led 17-2 after the first quarter and was never threatened as they defeated Marshall County 60-25. Sacred Heart Academy shot 55.3% from the field, connected on nine of 14 free throws, and pulled down 34 rebounds. Sacred Heart scored 22 points off 23 Marshall County turnovers. Sacred Heart committed 17 turnovers but Marshall County could only capitalize for seven points. Marshall County shot 24.4% from the field, was three of 10 from the free throw line, and grabbed 26 rebounds.
Sacred Heart was led tonight by Carly Ormerod with 16 points. Taylor Kopple added 13 points and Crystal Kelly chipped in with 12 points, 10 rebounds, and four blocked shots. Presley Doom led Marshall County with 11 points and seven rebounds.

Barren County erased a 41-31 deficit at the end of three quarters to eke out a 56-54 victory over Muhlenberg North. Barren County’s Piper Lindsey nailed a three pointer with less than 30 seconds remaining on the clock to tie the score at 54. Lindsey Williams then made a key steal and Patrika Barlow canned two free throws with less than a second remaining to give Barren County the victory.
Barren County shot 41.2% from the field, connected on nine of 12 free throws, and pulled down 26 rebounds. Barren County held a 15-0 advantage on three point points. Muhlenberg North shot 60.5% from the field but attempted 13 less shots from the field than Barren County. Muhlenberg North connected on eight of 10 free throws and grabbed 24 rebounds.
The victors were led by Patrika Barlow with 34 points, seven rebounds, five assists, and three steals. Piper Lindsey added 10 points. Jade Perry led Muhlenberg North with 33 points and seven rebounds.

Butler led 40-31 in the fourth quarter but had to overcome turnovers and shaky foul shooting in the final minutes to claim a 43-39 victory over Wayne County. Butler shot 33.3% from the field, was 12 of 20 from the free throw line, and pulled down 35 rebounds. Wayne County shot 28.9% from the field, was 15 of 20 from the free throw line, and grabbed 30 rebounds. Butler scored 21 points off 20 Wayne County turnovers, while Wayne County scored 14 points off 18 Butler miscues.
Ashley Lewallen led Butler with 13 points and 14 rebounds, while Tia Gibbs added 11 points, six rebounds, and four steals. Ashley Bell led Wayne County with 12 points and 13 rebounds. Latoyia Green added 11 points and nine rebounds while Kenita Ball chipped in with 10 points.

Sacred Heart scored 41 field goals and had a 48 point victory margin—both state tourney records. Sacred Heart shot 67.2% from the field, including 73.3% in the first half. The Valkyries connected on three of seven free throws, and pulled down 41 rebounds. Barren County shot 28.6% from the field, was three of six from the free throw line, and grabbed 21 rebounds.
The victors were led by Crystal Kelly with 17 points and seven rebounds. Taylor Kopple added 14 points. 5-9 Jr. Kelsey McCarty chipped in with 12 points and eight rebounds. Lexington Catholic held a 37-20 rebound margin and a 20-1 advantage in second chance points in a 63-46 victory over Butler. Lexington Catholic shot 43.6% from the field, including six of 15 from the three point line, and connected on nine of 16 free throws. Anaris Sickles led the victors with 18 points and 15 rebounds. Nikki Davis added 13 points, and Keyla Snowden chipped in with 12 points and eight rebounds. Shannon Novosel added 11 points and pulled down six rebounds. Ashley Lewallen led Butler with 15 points and five rebounds. Tia Gibbs and Jenna Hedges added nine and seven points respectively.

Sacred Heart Academy coach Donna Moir started the following lineup: 5-10 Jr. Taylor Kopple, 5-8 Jr. Jackie Distler, 6-3 Sr. Crystal Kelly, 5-4 Jr. Jordan Hess, and 5-8 Jr. Carly Ormerod. Christian County coach Don Dillard countered with 6-1 So. Lydia Watkins, 5-9 Sr. Rita Sanchez, 6-0 So. Arnika Brown, 5-9 Sr. Corkey Stiger, and 5-5 Sr. Shaleea Petty.
Christian County was successful in slowing down Crystal Kelly but Taylor Kopple and Carly Ormerod had big games to lead Sacred Heart to a 66-58 victory. Sacred Heart shot 50% from the field, connected on 14 of 19 free throws, and pulled down 39 rebounds. Sacred Heart scored 13 points off 14 Christian County turnovers. Christian County shot 32.4% from the field, connected on seven of 11 free throws, and grabbed 40 rebounds. Christian County scored 19 points off 20 Sacred Heart turnovers.
Taylor Kopple led Sacred Heart with 23 points and nine rebounds. Carly Ormerod added 14 points and dished out 10 assists. Jackie Distler chipped in with 10 points. Crystal Kelly tallied seven points and only attempted two shots from the field, connecting on one shot. However, she pulled down 11 rebounds, and blocked six shots. Arnika Brown and Corkey Stiger led Christian County as each tallied 17 points and nine rebounds. Shaleea Petty added 10 points and Lydia Watkins chipped in with eight points and seven rebounds.

Sacred Heart Academy (36-1) vs. Lexington Catholic (29-7) Championship Game
Sacred Heart Academy coach Donna Moir started the following lineup: 5-10 Jr. Taylor Kopple, 5-8 Jr. Jackie Distler, 6-3 Sr. Crystal Kelly, 5-4 Jr. Jordan Hess, and 5-8 Jr. Carly Ormerod. Lexington Catholic coach Greg Todd countered with 6-0 So. Anaris Sickles, 5-8 Jr. Lesley Server, 6-1 Jr. Shannon Novosel, 5-7 Fr. Keyla Snowden, and 5-8 So. Nikki Davis.
Sacred Heart overcame a slow pace and an early 15-9 deficit to defeat Lexington Catholic 43-32 to claim their third consecutive state championship. Sacred Heart went on an 8-0 run in the second quarter to lead 17-15 at halftime. Sacred Heart led 27-19 in the third quarter but Lexington Catholic scored the last four points of the quarter to trail 27-23 entering the final period. Lexington Catholic closed to within two, 27-25, but could never catch up and Sacred Heart pulled away for the win.
The victors were led today by Carly Ormerod with 18 points and four steals. Crystal Kelly added 12 points, pulled down nine rebounds, and recorded four steals. Shannon Novosel led Lexington Catholic with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Anaris Sickles added nine points and pulled down five rebounds.

Conclusion
Congratulations to Coach Donna Moir and Sacred Heart Academy for capturing their third consecutive state title. The Valkyries’ winning streak against in-state opponents has now reached 95 games. Carly Ormerod continues to add to her amazing list of accomplishments as she captured her second state tourney MVP award, and Carly is only a junior. Crystal Kelly is, well, Crystal Kelly and Taylor Kopple stepped up big time in theis tourney.
Lexington Catholic graduated stars Chelsea Chowning and Sarah Schell from last year’s state runner-up squad, but made it back to the title game again this year. Lexington Catholic did not have any seniors on their roster at tourney time and the future looks extremely bright for Coach Todd and the Lady Knights.
Christian County had a wonderfully talented squad but could not make it past Sacred Heart in the semifinals, despite a good effort. It is hard to imagine a better trio than Christian County’s Arnika Brown, Corkey Stiger, and Shaleea Petty. Muhlenberg North’s Jade Perry and Barren County’s Patrika Barlow had quite a duel in their game.
Wayne County’s Ashley Bell came to play and it was good to see Butler’s outstanding senior class in the big show. This was East Carter’s first appearance in the big show—congratulations to coach Hager Easterling and Kim Stapleton finished a fine career in style. Unfortunately for Rockcastle County, junior guard Johnna Abney suffered a season-ending knee injury and was unwilling to participate in the state tourney, but I have a feeling Johnna and the Lady Rockets will be back.
Congratulations to all the teams who made it to Bowling Green—there are no losers at this point. We will miss many of these young ladies who will graduate, but there is a lot of young talent both in this event and out in the state. Pike County Central, for example, represented the 15th Region and started two eighth graders and a freshman.
This was Marshall County’s 16th appearance in the state tourney. It will also be hard to imagine a state tourney without Polly Sebastian. The Perry County Central star point guard graduates this year but she has been a fixture at the big show. Sacred Heart started the season number one, had another great season with a 37-1 slate, and finished up number one. They defended their title with class and dignity and—make no mistake about it—success never went to their head because there were some formidable opponents in this field.
