The teams advancing to the 11th Region tournament are Woodford County, Berea, Lexington Catholic, Henry Clay, Madison Central, Lexington Christian Academy, Tates Creek, and Western Hills. The tourney format is a bit different this year, as the first round games will be played at the home of the district champions. The semifinals and championship game will be played at McBrayer Arena on the campus of Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, Kentucky.
Wednesday March 10th - Day 1
Berea (19-11) vs. Woodford County (20-9) (at Woodford County High School)
Woodford County connected on 12 of 24 three point field goal attempts in a 71-50 victory over Berea. 5-7 7th grader Katy Cooke led the victors with 21 points. 5-9 Jr. Destiny Mattingly added 17 points after missing ten games due to an injury. 5-6 Sr. Samantha Newman paced Berea with 21 points.

Lexington Christian Academy (15-12) vs. Madison Central (15-13) (at Madison Central High School)
Lexington Christian Academy coach Ralph Sallee started the following lineup: 5-9 Jr. Leah Anderson, 5-9 So. Katie Brittain, 6-0 So. Kirby Barnhart, 5-4 Fr. Emily London, and 5-6 Jr. Kayla Yates. Madison Central coach Kent Miller countered with 5-8 Sr. LaQuesha Bosley, 5-7 So. Kandie Warford, 5-7 Sr. Olivia Terry, 5-7 Jr. Ashley Wiseman, and 5-3 Jr. Brooke Barnett.
Madison Central trailed 45-34 at the end of three quarters but outscored Lexington Christian Academy 27-10 in the final period to earn a 61-55 victory. Lexington Christian Academy held a 27-8 lead in the first half but Madison Central rallied to close within 10, 28-18 at halftime. Madison Central trailed 51-42 midway through the final period when Olivia Terry, hampered by four fouls, re-entered the game. She scored the last 19 points of the game for Madison Central to spark an exciting comeback.
Madison Central shot 47.2% from the field including a torrid 76.5% in the second half. They connected on 21 of 29 free throws, and pulled down 23 rebounds. Lexington Christian Academy shot 43.6% from the field, was 17 of 25 from the free throw line, and grabbed 26 rebounds.
Madison Central was led by Olivia Terry with 27 points, including 15 of 20 free throws. Kandie Warford added 11 points and pulled down seven rebounds. Katie Brittain and Emily London led Lexington Christian Academy with 20 and 18 points respectively.

Thursday March 11th - Day 2
Henry Clay (21-6) vs. Lexington Catholic (23-7) (at Lexington Catholic High School)
Henry Clay coach Scott Cromwell started the following lineup: 6-0 Sr. Mary Tobin, 5-8 So. Erica Coleman, 6-1 Sr. Abby Currens, 5-7 Sr. Jessie Birdwhistell, and 5-4 Sr. Johnna Lewis-Carlisle. Lexington Catholic coach Greg Todd countered with 6-0 So. Anaris Sickles, 5-8 Jr. Lesley Server, 6-1 Jr. Shannon Novosel, 5-6 Fr. Keyla Snowden, and 5-8 So. Nikki Davis.
Lexington Catholic defeated Henry Clay tonight by a score of 88-63. Lexington Catholic led 24-17 after the first quarter and held a 47-34 advantage at the half. The Lady Knights put the game out of reach with a 26-13 spurt in the third quarter. Lexington Catholic was hot from the field tonight as they shot 62.1% from the field with several baskets coming on runouts as they passed over the Henry Clay press. Another factor was the limited minutes Henry Clay star Mary Tobin was able to log. Tobin only played a total of 13:03 tonight. She got in early foul trouble, then went down in the second half with a knee injury. She returned to the game but had to exit again. Unfortunately, the injury was later diagnosed as an ACL injury.
Lexington Catholic connected on 13 of 25 free throws and pulled down 42 rebounds. Henry Clay shot 40.7% from the field, was 16 of 24 from the free throw line, and grabbed 26 rebounds.
The victors were led tonight by Nikki Davis with 26 points including 11 of 14 from the field. Shannon Novosel added 22 points, 13 rebounds, six assists, and four blocked shots. Anaris Sickles added 19 points and pulled down eight rebounds. Johnna Lewis-Carlisle led Henry Clay with 17 points. Mary Tobin and Abby Currens added 10 and eight points respectively.

Tates Creek led 14-6 at halftime but put the Wolverines away in the second half to take a 47-19 victory. 5-7 Jr. Philnisha Lindsey led Tates Creek with 18 points and six rebounds. 6-2 Jr. Brittany Pittman added 15 points and nine rebounds. 5-9 So. Lauren Reed led Western Hills with eight points.

Monday March 15th – Day 3 (at McBrayer Arena)
Lexington Catholic (24-7) vs. Woodford County (21-9) Semifinal No. 1
Lexington Catholic coach Greg Todd started the following lineup: 6-0 So. Anaris Sickles, 5-8 Jr. Lesley Server, 6-1 Jr. Shannon Novosel, 5-6 Fr. Keyla Snowden, and 5-8 So. Nikki Davis. Woodford County coach Jay Lucas countered with 5-7 So. Amber Penny, 5-11 Sr. Blythe Brown, 5-7 So. Brittany Henderlight, 5-7 Sr. Beth Nunnelley, and 5-7 7th grader Katy Cooke.
Lexington Catholic led 36-21 but had to overcome a furious third quarter rally by Woodford County to earn a 69-57 victory. Woodford County roared out of the gate in the second half with a 15-2 run to pull within two points, 38-36 before Lexington Catholic regained control.
Lexington Catholic shot 38.3% from the field, connected on 30 of 36 free throws, and pulled down 40 rebounds. Woodford County shot 37% from the field, was 11 of 23 from the free throw line, and pulled down 34 rebounds. Lexington Catholic held a 30-11 advantage in free throw points while Woodford County held a 29-7 bench scoring advantage.
The victors were led tonight by Nikki Davis with 22 points including 16 of 17 from the free throw line. Davis also added eight rebounds, six assists, and four steals. Anaris Sickles tallied 16 points and pulled down 12 rebounds while Shannon Novosel chipped in with 12 points and 10 rebounds. 5-9 Jr. Destiny Mattingly led Woodford County with 19 points and eight rebounds. Katy Cooke added 12 points.

Tates Creek coach Jan Ulmer-Hintz started the following lineup: 6-1 Jr. Kristen Pendleton, 5-8 Jr. Shaquita Dowlen, 6-2 Jr. Brittany Pittman, 5-7 Jr. Derrica Morton, and 5-7 Jr. Philnisha Lindsey. Madison Central’s chief offensive threat, Olivia Terry, got in early foul trouble with three first quarter fouls and Tates Creek’s defense did the rest in a 58-36 Tates Creek victory. It was a rough night for Coach Miller as he was assessed a series of technical fouls and was ejected from the game. Tates Creek outscored Madison Central 26-5 from the free throw line. Madison Central was called for 22 personal fouls while Tates Creek was whistled for 11 personal fouls.
Tates Creek shot 38.1% from the field, connected on 26 of 35 free throws, and pulled down 36 rebounds. Madison Central only shot 24.1% from the field, was five of 10 from the free throw line, and pulled down 37 rebounds. Tates Creek scored 18 points off 15 Madison Central turnovers.
Philnisha Lindsey led Tates Creek with 24 points. Shaquita Dowlen and Derrica Morton added 11 and 10 points respectively. Brittany Pittman added seven points and pulled down a game-high 16 rebounds. Olivia Terry led Madison Central with 13 points. Kandie Warford added eight points and pulled down nine rebounds.

Tuesday March 16th – Day 4 (at McBrayer Arena)
Tates Creek (22-7) vs. Lexington Catholic (25-7) Championship Game
Tates Creek coach Jan Ulmer-Hintz started the following lineup: 6-1 Jr. Kristen Pendleton, 5-8 Jr. Shaquita Dowlen, 6-2 Jr. Brittany Pittman, 5-7 Jr. Derrica Morton, and 5-7 Jr. Philnisha Lindsey. Lexington Catholic coach Greg Todd countered with 6-0 So. Anaris Sickles, 5-8 Jr. Lesley Server, 6-1 Jr. Shannon Novosel, 5-6 Fr. Keyla Snowden, and 5-8 So. Nikki Davis.
Lexington Catholic led 42-25 but had to withstand a furious Tates Creek rally to earn a 58-51 victory and a trip to the Sweet 16. Lexington Catholic got out of the gate fast with a 15-4 lead fueled by two three point bombs by Lesley Server. Tates Creek staged a mild rally and trailed 16-8 an the end of the first quarter. Shaquita Dowlen nailed a three point basket to give Tates Creek a 19-19 tie with 2:50 remaining in the second quarter. Lexington Catholic scored the next seven points to take a 26-19 hafltime lead.
Lexington Catholic outscored the Commodores 16-6 in the third quarter to take a 42-25 lead entering the final period. Tates Creek, fueled by excellent inside play by the “Twin Towers” (Kristen Pendleton and Brittany Pittman) and some nifty onside bombing by Shaquita Dowlen pulled within five points, 56-51 before finally running out of time.
Lexington Catholic shot 37.8% from the field, connected on 19 of 30 free throws, and pulled down 33 rebounds. Tates Creek shot 38.6% from the field, was 14 of 18 from the free throw line, and pulled down 33 rebounds. Lexington Catholic scored 17 points off 13 Tates Creek turnovers and held a 10-0 advantage in bench scoring.
The victors were led tonight by Shannon Novosel with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Lesley Server added 11 points including three three point baskets. Nikki Davis chipped in with 10 points, eight rebounds, seven assists, and three steals. Anaris Sickles tallied eight points and pulled down nine rebounds. Brittany Pittman led Tates Creek with 16 points, six rebounds, and six blocked shots. Shaquita Dowlen added 11 points including three three point baskets. Philnisha Lindsey added 10 points. Kristen Pendleton tallied eight points and pulled down a team-high nine rebounds. Derrica Morton chipped in with six points and seven rebounds.

Conclusion
Congratulations to Coach Greg Todd and the Lexington Catholic Lady Knights for capturing the 11th Region crown and earning a return trip to the Sweet 16 tourney. Also, congratulations to Coach Jan Ulmer-Hintz and the Tates Creek Commodores for a great season. Tates Creek reached several milestones this season and, like Lexington Catholic, have no seniors on their roster.
