The 42nd District boys’ tourney will pit the winner of the Sayre vs. East Jessamine game against Lexington Catholic in one semifinal. The other semifinal will match West Jessamine vs. Lexington Christian Academy.
In the 42nd District girls’ tourney, one semifinal will pit Lexington Catholic against the winner of the West Jessamine vs. Sayre game. Lexington Christian Academy will meet East Jessamine in the other semifinal.
Monday, March 1st
East Jessamine (13-14) vs. Sayre (10-13) (Boys)
East Jessamine coach Chris O’Bryan started the following lineup: 6-2 Sr. Brandon Mason, 6-2 Sr. Cannan Grall, 6-5 Sr. Ryan McFarland, 5-9 Sr. Mark Hamann, and 5-9 Jr. Brett Durham. Sayre coach Gene Kirk countered with 6-1 So. Bush Gess, 6-2 Sr. Doug Arnold, 6-3 Jr. Alex McIntyre, 5-10 So. Will Campbell, and 5-8 Fr. Dee Smith.
East Jessamine erased a 33-32 deficit at halftime by outscoring Sayre 16-9 in the third quarter on their way to a 57-53 victory. East Jessamine shot 37.7% from the field, was 12 of 23 from the free throw line, and pulled down 47 rebounds. Sayre shot 34.7% from the field, was 15 of 24 from the free throw line, and grabbed 31 rebounds. East Jessamine scored 13 points off 14 Sayre turnovers while Sayre scored nine points off 16 East Jessamine miscues.
The victors were led by Brett Durham with 22 points. Ryan McFarland added nine points and pulled down 12 rebounds. 6-4 So. Eurich Downey chipped in with nine points and eight rebounds. Doug Arnold led Sayre with 14 points and seven rebounds. Bush Gess added 11 points and pulled down seven rebounds.

Sayre coach Scott Sutton started the following lineup: 5-9 Sr. Madison Gibson, 5-8 Fr. Logan Marksbury, 5-8 Fr. Lizzie Youngbloood, 5-2 Sr. Mary Claire Turner, and 5-5 Jr. Meg Grossman. West Jessamine coach Doug Roher countered with 5-9 Sr. Loren Gray, 5-9 Sr. Maria Contini, 5-7 Jr. Loren Bewley, 5-4 Sr. Larasa Sallee, and Samantha Shipley.
West Jessamine advanced in the tourney with a close 40-35 victory over Sayre. West Jessamine shot 30.2% from the field, was one of four from the free throw line, and pulled down 47 rebounds. Sayre shot 29.5% from the field, was nine of 20 from the free throw line, and grabbed 36 rebounds. West Jessamine held a 19-5 advantage in bench scoring.
Loren Bewley had a good game for West Jessamine with 15 points, nine rebounds, four assists, and four steals. Katie Bailey, Kathyrn Smith, and Ashley Tatman added seven, six and six points respectively. Meg Grossman led Sayre with 11 points. Logan Marksbury added seven points and Madison Gibson chipped in with six points and 10 rebounds.

Tuesday, March 2nd
East Jessamine (10-13) vs. Lexington Christian Academy (14-11) (Girls) Semifinal
East Jessamine coach Paul Roher started the following lineup: Jennifer Knasel, 5-6 Jr. Christina Perkins, 5-11 Jr. Lauren Duke, Megan Sexton, and 5-2 Jr. Latoya Richardson. Note: East Jessamine’s Ruth Byrd is out with an ankle injury. Lexington Christian Academy coach Ralph Sallee countered with 5-9 So. Katie Brittain, 5-9 Jr. Leah Anderson, 6-0 So. Kirby Barnhart, 5-4 Fr. Emily London, and 5-6 Jr. Kayla Yates.
Lexington Christian Academy raced out to a 39-20 halftime lead on their way to a 75-52 victory over East Jessamine. Lexington Christian shot 35.8% from the field, was 24 of 32 from the free throw line, and pulled down 56 rebounds. Lexington Christian scored 26 points off 30 East Jessamine turnovers. East Jessamine shot 27.9% from the field, was seven of 14 free throws, and grabbed 45 rebounds. East Jessamine scored 23 points off 26 Lexington Christian turnovers.
Lexington Christian was led today by Kirby Barnhart with 15 points, including 11 of 14 free throws. Barnhart pulled down 12 rebounds, blocked four shots, and triggered LCA’s fast start with some impressive offense. Kayla Yates added 14 points. Leah Anderson and 5-9 Jr. Cara Johnson added nine points each. East Jessamine was led by Latoya Richardson with 24 points. Lauren Duke added seven points, seven rebounds, three blocked shots, and five steals.

Lexington Christian Academy coach Jason Seamands started the following lineup: 6-5 Nick Maloy, 6-3 So. Clay Turner, 6-5 So. Seth Lawless, 5-11 So. Rich Ludka, and 5-11 So. Chris Wade. West Jessamine coach Matthew Yates countered with 6-2 Sr. Wes Hosny, 6-4 So. Brian Johnson, 6-6 Sr. Cody Meadows, 6-1 Jr. Drew Blair, and 6-0 Jr. Michael Spann.
West Jessamine held a commanding 52-30 advantage on the boards and outscored Lexington Christian 47-33 in the second half to claim an 80-56 victory. West Jessamine shot 45% from the field and was 24 of 30 from the free throw line. Lexington Christian shot 31.1% from the field and was 10 of 16 from the free throw line. West Jessamine scored 17 points off 17 LCA turnovers.
Michael Spann led West Jessamine today with 28 points and nine rebounds. Spann was eight of 15 from the field and 11 of 12 from the free throw line. Cody Meadows added 16 points and pulled down 10 rebounds while Brian Johnson chipped in with 13 points and nine rebounds. Drew Blair also reached double figures with 11 points. Chris Wade and 5-10 Sr. David Hofe led LCA with 12 and 11 points respectively. Seth Lawless added 10 points and pulled down seven rebounds.

Lexington Catholic coach Bart Flener countered with 6-4 Sr. Demetrius Green, 6-3 Sr. Harrison Morton, 6-4 Sr. Mark Balthrop, 5-10 Sr. Drew Morton, and 6-3 Sr. William Graham.
Lexington Catholic raced out to a 41-22 halftime lead and scored 28 points off 22 East Jessamine turnovers on their way to a 78-51 victory. The Knights substituted often in this game as 12 players cracked the scoring column. Lexington Catholic shot 42.9% from the field, was five of eight from the free throw line, and pulled down 42 rebounds. Lexington Catholic held a 36-11 advantage in bench scoring. East Jessamine shot 31.5% from the field, was 16 of 23 from the free throw line, and pulled down 46 rebounds.
William Graham led the victors with 14 points. Harrison Morton and 6-5 Jr. Rob Riddell added 11 points each. Morton also pulled down 11 rebounds. Ryan McFarland led East Jessamine with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Cannan Grall added eight points and pulled down 11 rebounds. Brandon Mason chipped in with eight points and 10 rebounds.

Lexington Catholic scored 43 points on 31 West Jessamine turnovers and outscored them 42-4 in the second half in a 92-19 victory. Lexington Catholic substituted often in this game as 11 players logged more than eight minutes of playing time. Lexington Catholic shot 54.3% from the field, was nine of 14 from the free throw line, and pulled down 52 rebounds. West Jessamine shot 17.3% from the field, was zero for two from the free throw line, and grabbed 29 rebounds.
The victors were led by Lesley Server with 18 points including four three point baskets. Anaris Sickles and Keyla Snowden added 13 and 11 points respectively. Shannon Novosel added eight points and pulled down 11 rebounds. 5-8 8th grader Natalie Novosel added eight points, pulled down four rebounds, and recorded five steals. Samantha Shipley led West Jessamine with nine points.

Lexington Catholic led Lexington Christian Academy 34-25 at halftime and outscored LCA 23-9 in the third quarter in a 71-44 victory. Lexington Catholic shot 42.3% from the field, was 20 of 24 from the free throw line, and pulled down 34 rebounds. Lexington Catholic scored 19 points off 24 Lexington Christian turnovers and held a 19-4 advantage in bench scoring. Lexington Christian shot 34.7% from the field, was nine of 13 from the free throw line, and pulled down 35 rebounds. Lexington Christian scored 14 points off 16 Lexington Catholic turnovers.
The victors were led today by Shannon Novosel with 17 points and nine rebounds. Lesley Server added 12 points on four three point baskets. Nikki Davis added 10 points, six rebounds, eight assists, and seven steals. LCA was led today by Kirby Barnhart, who continued her excellent tourney play with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Leah Anderson added 10 points and pulled down eight rebounds.

West Jessamine shot 29.2% from the field, was 10 of 14 from the free throw line, and pulled down 50 rebounds.
The victors were led by William Graham with 20 points. Demetrius Green added 19 points and pulled down 10 rebounds. Harrison Morton added 12 points, eight rebounds, and five steals. 6-2 Jr. Trevor Gray came off the bench to lead West Jessamine with 14 points. Michael Spann added 13 points and pulled down eight rebounds.
