Newport Central Catholic coach Christie McDonald started the following lineup:  5-8 Sr. Jenny Prigge, 5-9 Sr. Tricia Bertke, 5-10 Sr. Jenna Ziegler, 5-8 Jr. Jayme Thiem, and 6-0 Sr. Nicole Chiodi.  Henry Clay coach Kirk Chiles countered with 6-1 Sr. Abby Currens, 5-8 So. Erica Coleman, 6-0 Sr. Mary Tobin, 5-7 Sr. Jessie Birdwhistell, and 5-3 Sr. Johnna Lewis-Carlisle

Newport Central Catholic defeated Henry Clay 78-76 in ta thriller tonight.  Both teams shot well in the first half with Henry Clay leading 23-19 after the first quarter and NCC rallying to tie the score 40-40 at halftime.  Newport Central Catholic went on an 11-0 run in the third quarter before Henry Clay scored the last four points of the quarter to make the score 63-56.  Newport Central Catholic held a 74-67 lead but Henry Clay scored six consecutive points to make the score 74-73 with 1:35 remaining on the clock.  Henry Clay missed a late three point attempt and Newport Central Catholic claimed the rebound and ran out the clock.

The victors were led by Nicole Chiodi with 28 points.  Jayme Thiem added 23 points and 5-8 Sr. Danielle Schout chipped in with nine points.  Mary Tobin and Johnna Lewis-Carlisle led Henry Clay with 24 and 19 points respectively.  Abby Currens and 6-0 Jr. Virginia Northcutt chipped in with nine points each.
