Louisville Ballard coach Ken Smith started the following lineup: 5-10 Sr. Heather Ross, 5-7 Sr. Kelly Compton, 6-4 So. Alicia Bunton, 5-7 So. Erin Rogers, and 5-5 Fr. Teadra Elliott. Lafayette coach Allison Tate Denton countered with 5-9 Sr. Lauren Coats, 6-1 Jr. Lori Colson, 6-0 Sr. Catherine Strobel, 5-6 So. Katie Kelly, and 5-9 Jr. Lucy Clark.
Lafayette held off a late rally by Ballard to claim a 51-45 victory at home tonight. Lafayette led 15-11 at the end of the first quarter and increased their lead to 12, 29-17, at the half. Catherine Strobel and Lori Colson combined for 19 points in the first half to pace Lafayette to their commanding lead. Ballard cut the deficit to 37-29 at the end of three quarters and pulled to within 2, 47-45, late in the game. Catherine Strobel and Lucy Clark each canned two free throws to seal the victory.
The victors were led tonight by Catherine Strobel with 19 points and eight rebounds. Lori Colson added nine points, all in the first half. Lafayette connected on 21 of 26 free throws for the game. Ballard was led by Teadra Elliott and 5-10 So. Reena Haliburton with 12 points each. Alicia Bunton added 11 points, 10 rebounds, and four blocked shots.
