Tates Creek coach Jan Ulmer-Hintz started the following lineup: 5-8 Jr. Shaquita Dowlen, 6-1 Jr. Kristen Pendleton, 6-2 Jr. Brittany Pittman, 5-7 Jr. Derrica Morton, and 5-7 Jr. Philneshia Lindsey. Woodford County coach Jay Lucas countered with 5-11 Sr. Blythe Brown, 5-11 Jr. Emily Freibert, 5-9 Sr. Katie Routt, 5-7 So. Brittany Henderlight, and 5-9 Jr. Destiny Mattingly.
Woodford County connected on five of six free throws in the last 30 seconds to earn a 56-48 victory over Tates Creek tonight. The score was tied 29-29 at halftime but Tates Creek went cold from the field in the third quarter and Woodford County led 40-34 after three quarters. Brittany Pittman put Tates Creek ahead 41-40 on a field goal early in the fourth period. Woodford County recaptured the lead and held a 51-48 advantage with 30 seconds remaining in the game. Tates Creek turned the ball over and missed free throws down the stretch, and Woodford County capitalized and hit their free throws to ensure the victory.
Woodford County was led tonight by Destiny Mattingly with 18 points including 12 points in the second half. Brittany Henderlight and Blythe Brown added 11 and 10 points respectively. 5-7 7th grader Katy Cooke came off the bench to add six points on two three point goals. Emily Freibert only recorded three points but they were a very important three points. After Tates Creek took a 41-40 lead in the final period, Freibert answered with a three pointer which gave Woodford County a 43-41 lead.
Tates Creek was led tonight by Shaquita Dowlen with 15 points including three three-pointers. Brittany Pittman added 12 points and pulled down 13 rebounds. Tates Creek starts five juniors, and once they develop a deeper rotation will only improve as the season progresses. Kristen Pendleton is becoming more aggressive in the paint and should become a dependable scorer and rebounder.
