Oak Hill Academy (VA) vs. Lexington Catholic
Oak Hill Academy coach Steve Smith started the following lineup: 6-6 Sr. Dayshawn Wright, 6-8 Sr. Josh Smith, 6-9 Sr. Brian Johnson, 6-4 Jr. K. C. Rivers, and 6-2 Sr. Rajon Rondo. Lexington Catholic coach Bart Flener countered with 6-4 Sr. Demetrius Green, 6-3 Sr. Harrison Morton, 6-4 Sr. Mark Balthrop, 6-4 Sr. Joe Tunde, and 6-3 Sr. William Graham.
Lexington Catholic outscored Oak Hill 17-15 in the first quarter but Oak Hill outscored the Knights 23-6 in the second quarter on their way to a 77-59 victory. Oak Hill Academy outshot Lexington Catholic 50%-36.1% from the field and held a 55-27 advantage in rebounding. The victors were led by Josh Smith (Indiana) with 29 points and 11 rebounds, while Rajon Rondo tallied 17 points and dished out nine assists. Dayshawn Wright (Syracuse) added 12 points and pulled down 20 rebounds. Brian Johnson (Louisville) chipped in with 11 points and pulled down seven rebounds. Harrison Morton and Demetrius Green paced Lexington Catholic with 16 and 15 points respectively.
Lexington Catholic actually gave a fairly good account of themselves. Oak Hill outscored LexCath 23-6 in the second quarter which settled the issue. Oak Hill is tall, talented (several D-1 players on their roster), and well-coached by Steve Smith. Granted, Coach Smith gets the best talent each season, but he then has to meld individual superstars into a cohesive unit and after all there is just one basketball.
