Lafayette (2-0) at Bryan Station (0-1)
Lafayette coach Allison Tate Denton started the following lineup: 5-9 Sr. Lauren Coats, 5-9 Jr. Lucy Clark, 6-1 Jr. Lori Colson, 5-6 So. Katie Kelly, and 5-8 So. Suzie Owens. Bryan Station coach Jackie Williams countered with 5-9 Jr. Brittney Clark, 5-6 Fr. LaKrista Clark, 5-5 Jr. Denetria Nichols, 5-7 So. Bradli Stinson, and 5-6 So. Carley Blankenship.
Lafayette’s Suzie Owens stole the ball and hit a layup with three seconds remaining on the clock to give her team a 53-51 victory. This game was truly a story of two very different halves. The score was tied 4-4 early in the game when Bryan Station went on a 13-0 run to take a 17-4 lead early in the second quarter. Lafayette scrapped back to cut the margin to 7, 23-16, before Bryan Station closed out the half on an 8-0 run to make the halftime score Bryan Station 31, Lafayette 16.
Lafayette battled back in the third quarter and only trailed 39-33 at the end of three quarters. Bryan Station led 51-48 until Lucy Clark nailed a three pointer from deep in the corner to tie the score 51-51 with 24 seconds remaining on the clock. Bryan Station brought the ball up the floor but Suzie Owens made the steal and driving layup to give Lafayette the victory. Turnovers hurt Bryan Station in the second half and they were further hampered when Brittney Clark got in early foul trouble in the third quarter and eventually fouled out with 1:48 remaining in the game. Lafayette never quit working, even when they trailed by 15 points and eventually the hard work paid off with a big city win.
Lafayette was led today by Suzie Owens with 19 points and six rebounds. Lauren Coats and Lucy Clark each added nine points. Lori Colson chipped in with eight points and pulled down six rebounds. Katie Kelly scored four points, dished out six assists, and recorded four steals. 6-3 So. Crystal Leach came off the bench to lead Bryan Station with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Brittney Clark and Bradli Stinson added nine points each.
