Sacred Heart Academy (29-1) vs. Assumption (19-10)

Sacred Heart coach Donna Moir started the following lineup:  5-11 Sr. Becca Kopple, 5-10 So. Taylor Kopple, 6-3 Jr. Crystal Kelly, 5-6 Jr. Connie Ferch, and 5-7 So. Carly Ormerod.  Assumption coach Tom Creamer countered with 5-10 Sr. Sarah Todd, 5-10 Jr. Jessica Gilbert, 6-1 Fr. Amber Norton, 5-7 Jr. Trish Todd, and 5-6 Jr. Jennifer Wiedmar.

Sacred Heart held a 53.3%-30.8% edge in field goal shooting and held a 34-26 advantage in rebounding on their way to a 57-46 victory over Assumption.  Sacred Heart took a 19-9 first quarter lead and led by six, 27-21, at halftime.  The Valkyries pulled away in the their quarter to lead 47-31 at the end of the quarter.  This was victory number 254 for Coach Donna Moir which ties her with former Sacred Heart Academy Bunny Daughtery for the most victories in school history.  It was also Sacred Heart’s third victory over Assumption this season, which in itself is an accomplishment.  It is always difficult to beat a good team three times.

Assumption did not have an answer for Crystal Kelly tonight as she led Sacred Heart with 25 points on 10 of 14 from the field and five of six from the charity stripe.  Kelly also pulled down 14 rebounds and blocked six shots.  Carly Ormerod added 15 points and eight rebounds.  Becca and Taylor Kopple added six points each, and Connie Ferch chipped in with five points and dished out seven assists.  Assumption was led by Trish Todd with 16 points.  Sarah Todd added 10 points and pulled down seven rebounds, while Amber Norton chipped in with 10 points.
