There are ten teams scheduled to play in this one-day event. The teams scheduled to play are Paris, East Jessamine, Harrison County, Powell County, Bourbon County, Woodford County, West Jessamine, George Rogers Clark, North Laurel, and Scott County.

Game 1 Paris (8-11) vs. East Jessamine (11-8)

Paris coach Cary Barr started the following lineup: 6-0 Sr. Jon Marks, 6-2 Jr. Doug Kenney, 6-2 So. William Bryant, 6-0 Jr. Michael Young, and 5-8 So. Tyrell Howard. East Jessamine coach Chris O’Bryan countered with 6-1 Sr. Scotty Foster, 6-1 Jr. Brandon Mason, 6-5 Jr. Ryan McFarland, 5-8 So. Brett Durham, and 5-7 Sr. Daniel Sandlin.

East Jessamine led Paris 39-32 at halftime and pulled away from an outmanned Paris squad in the second half to gain an 82-60 victory. Paris was missing three key players including 6-0 Jr. Purvis Dumphord and 6-0 Sr. Eddie Marks due to illness. East Jessamine held a 49.2%-28.4% edge in field goal shooting and outrebounded Paris 47-41. East Jessamine was led by Ryan McFarland and Brandon Mason with 19 points each. McFarland and Mason pulled down eight and seven rebounds respectively. 6-3 Sr. Jason Webster added 14 points including four three point baskets. Daniel Sandlin and Scotty Foster dished out nine and seven assists respectively. Paris was led today by Tyrell Howard with 24 points including four three point goals. Doug Kenney and Michael Young added 17 and 11 points respectively. William Bryant added eight points and pulled down 10 rebounds.

Game 2 Harrison County (13-4) vs. Powell County (16-5)

Harrison County coach Lee Kendall started the following lineup: 6-6 Sr. Travis Northcutt, 6-4 Sr. Andy Wagoner, 6-2 Sr. Isaac Whalen, 6-4 Jr. Eric Mullins, and 6-0 Jr. Scott Muntz. Powell County coach Greg Coldiron countered with 6-2 Sr. Jon Brewer, 6-3 Sr. Dwayne Hatton, 6-3 So. Ryan Stewart, 6-1 Sr. Micah Drake, and 6-1 Sr. Jeremy Jones.

Powell County’s 5-11 So. Jermaine Martin nailed a three point basket with 7.5 seconds remaining in regulation to tie the score 54-54 and force overtime. Jeremy Jones scored six points in overtime to lead Powell County to a 63-56 victory. Powell County held a 43.8%-40.7% edge in field goal shooting and outrebounded Harrison County 37-29. Powell County was 15 of 24 from the free throw line while Harrison County only visited the charity stripe seven times, connecting on six shots. Powell County was six of 11 from the three point line while Harrison County was only six of 20 from beyond the arc.

Powell County was led today by Jeremy Jones with 26 points. Dwayne Hatton and Jermaine Martin added 12 and 10 points respectively. Harrison County was led by Travis Northcutt with 18 points. Eric Mullins, Isaac Whalen, and 6-2 Sr. Jeremy Howard added 12, 11, and 10 points respectively.

Game 3 Bourbon County (10-10) vs. Woodford County (7-11)

Bourbon County coach Brandon Salsman started the following lineup: 6-3 Sr. Alex Wells, 6-7 Sr. Craig Williams, 6-0 So. Deron Brown, 5-10 Sr. Jamile Brown, and 5-10 So. Quinn Hawkins. Woodford County coach Bill Bland countered with 6-1 Sr. Mike Woolfork, 5-9 Sr. Brad McClean, 6-3 Jr. Dominique White, 5-8 Sr. Sheafan Mattingly, and 6-0 Sr. Jerome Givens.

Woodford County was 10 of 26 from the three point line and held a 52.1%-47% field goal edge over Bourbon County on their way to a 103-87 victory. The victors were led by Jerome Givens with 39 points, seven rebounds, and four assists. Brad McClean, Sheafan Mattingly, and Dominique White added 21, 15, and 11 points respectively. White also pulled down 13 rebounds. Bourbon County was led by Craig Williams with 39 points and 12 rebounds. Jamile Brown and Quinn Hawkins added 17 points each.

Game 4 West Jessamine (13-7) vs. George Rogers Clark (15-9)

West Jessamine coach Matthew Yates started the following lineup: 6-5 Sr. Scott Tarvin, 5-11 Sr. Andy Placido, 6-6 Sr. Brett Johnson, 6-2 Sr. Cameron Jackson, and 5-11 Sr. Daniel Thompson. Clark County coach Mike Reitz countered with 6-1 Sr. Stephen Columbia, 6-1 Sr. Randall Gentry, 6-10 Sr. Andrew Preston, 5-10 Sr. Marc Midden, and 5-11 So. Matthew Martin.

Clark County led 56-40 at the end of three quarters but had to survive a furious fourth quarter rally by West Jessamine to claim a 71-69 victory. Clark County held a 41.5%-30.1% edge in field goal shooting and outrebounded West Jessamine 49-41. Clark County was led by Stephen Columbia with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Randall Gentry added 15 points and 12 rebounds. Andrew Preston chipped in with 15 points, 14 rebounds, and five blocked shots. Brett Johnson led West Jessamine with 15 points. 6-5 Sr. Joey Searle added 14 points including three three point goals. Cameron Jackson and Scott Tarvin chipped in with 11 and 10 points respectively.

Game 5 North Laurel (15-6) vs. Scott County (15-6)

North Laurel coach Ken Woods started the following lineup: 6-1 Sr. Erik Deaton, 6-2 So. Michael Robinson, 6-7 Jr. Oliver Mansour, 6-6 Sr. Aurimas Silys, and 6-3 Sr. Magnus Pallson. Scott County coach Billy Hicks countered with 6-3 Jr. Alex Cassady, 6-1 Jr. Troy Harris, 6-10 Sr. Justin Lee, 5-11 Sr. Nick Reed, and 6-1 Jr. Tyler Hicks.

North Laurel led 40-33 at the half but their foul woes and a 30-8 third quarter spurt by Scott County propelled the home-standing Cardinals to an 80-64 victory. Mansour, Silys, and Pallson all picked up their fourth fouls by the five minute mark in the third quarter and Scott County took control of the game. Scott County held a 43.1%-37% edge in field goal shooting and scored 20 points off 19 North Laurel turnovers. Scott County was 28 of 45 from the free throw line while North Laurel visited the free throw line 28 times connecting on 18 shots. Scott County was led by Tyler Hicks and Troy Harris with 21 and 17 points respectively. 6-8 Jr. Zach Van Guilder had a big game with 12 points, 11 rebounds, and three blocked shots. Nick Reed chipped in with 11 points. North Laurel was led by Oliver Mansour with 18 points. Michael Robinson added 13 points and pulled down eight rebounds.

Conclusion

This was a very interesting day of basketball with some good teams and fine players displaying their wares today. Jeremy Jones had and excellent game for Powell County with his 26 points coming on 10 of 18 from the field and four of seven from the charity stripe. Woodford County’s Jerome Givens lit up the scoreboard with 39 points, demonstrating why he is one of the top scorers in the state. Bourbon County coach Brandon Salsman has a good one in Craig Williams. Williams tallied 39 points and pulled down 12 rebounds. Williams’ offensive onslaught came on 15 of 23 from the field and nine of 12 from the free throw line. George Rogers Clark and West Jessamine had an exciting game and both teams should compete for their respective regional crowns. Scott County missed the presence of 6-3 Sr. Jeremy Nettles who is currently out with an injury, but got good performances from Tyler Hicks, Troy Harris, Zach Van Guilder, and Nick Reed to defeat North Laurel. North Laurel’s 6-7 220 pound Jr. Oliver Mansour, although saddled with foul problems, tallied 18 points in only 12:40 of play.
