Conclusion

Congratulations to Coach Danny Haney and the Lexington Catholic Knights on their championship season.  Lexington Catholic finished 33-2 for the season, won an invitational tournament in Florida, and also added the Fifth Third Bank invitational title.  They overcame a very good team in East Jessamine to win the regional, then had to defeat Ashland, Oldham County, North Hardin, and Paducah Tilghman to capture the big prize.  The publicity went to a wonderfully talented group of underclassmen but make no mistake, senior leadership was key in this championship run.  It takes a good team and a certain amount of breaks to win the title and all the pieces fell into place for Lexington Catholic this season.

Paducah Tilghman also had a magical run and veteran coach Bill Chumbler picked up his 700th coaching victory.  People in Western Kentucky knew how good Orlandus Hill is – now the whole state knows.  North Hardin caught a tough break when starting forward Jarius Sykes went down with an injury.  Male had a lot of talent but they never seemed to click on all cylinders and it finally caught up with them in the semifinal match against Paducah Tilghman. Hopefully, every team that played in the Sweet 16 can now reflect on the success that allowed them to be a regional champion and advance to the big dance.  To all the teams, coaches, and players who participated in the tournament, congratulations and thanks for the memories

Postscript

Coach Danny Haney and the Lexington Catholic Knights received another honor to close their season.  The USA Today Super 25 boys basketball rankings came out on March 26th and Lexington Catholic was ranked No. 10 in the nation.  The No. 8 team, DeMatha out of Hyattsville, MD, handed Lexington Catholic one of their two season losses.  Congratulations to Lexington Catholic and Coach Haney on this prestigious honor.
