Murray defeated Whitesville Trinity by a score of 60-47. Murray outshot Whitesville Trinity 51.4%-27.6%. Whitesville Trinity was only one of nineteen from the three point line. Murray was led today by Page Adlich with 27 points, 11 rebounds, and five blocked shots. Ashley Tripp added 16 points including three three-point field goals. Delanda Olive scored only four points but she pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds. Whitesville Trinity was led today by Maria Roberts and Sarah McDaniel with 21 and 15 points respectively.

Nichole Chiodi was held to five points but she pulled down 13 rebounds and recorded five steals. Paris was led by Ashley Garrard with 12 points. Iona Caulder added nine points and Courtney Fields chipped in with eight points and eight rebounds.

West Carter shot an anemic 18.5% from the field in the first half and trailed Owen County 17-13 at halftime. West Carter finally pulled away from Owen County in the final period to gain a 43-34 victory. They were led by Kayla Jones with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Meghan Hillman added 11 points, eight rebounds, and six blocked shots. Owen County was led by Katie Smith and Jacyln Minch with 10 points each. Casey Perkins pulled down 10 rebounds for the Lady Rebels.

Newport Central Catholic’s defense forced 27 Murray turnovers that they converted into 27 points on the way to a 63-53 victory. Neither team shot particularly well from the field with NCC shooting 38.2% while Murray was 31.7%. Murray won the battle of the boards 48-33. NCC was led today by Jayme Thiem with 18 points. Jenny Prigge and Nichole Chiodi added 11 points each. Chiodi also pulled down nine rebounds. Murray was led by Sherrie Sexton and Ashley Tripp with 15 and 14 points respectively. Delanda Olive and Page Adlich pulled down 17 and 11 rebounds respectively.

Clinton County was hot from the three point line (9 of 18) for the game. Jackson County was led by Sarah Elliott who put up some big numbers today with 27 points, 21 rebounds, and four blocked shots. Andrea Whitehead added 13 points. Amber and Paige Guffey led Clinton County with 21 and 14 points respectively. Angela Brown also added 14 points, pulled down 16 rebounds, and blocked five shots.

Conclusions
Dave Cantrall’s All ‘A’ Classic rankings which appeared in the Lexington
Herald-Leader on Wednesday, January 30th had Jackson County,
Clinton County, West Carter, and Newport Central Catholic in the first four
positions. Cantrall was on the
mark as those four teams reached the semifinals with Jackson County
successfully defending their championship. The Lady Generals lost two All-Staters from last year but
tourney MVP Sarah Elliott put together excellent games to lead her team
to the championship. There were
many stars in this tourney – 6-5 Jr. Angela Brown of Clinton County put
up some large numbers. 6-1 Sr. Jenny
Noort had an excellent tourney for Lexington Christian Academy. 5-5 Jr. Megen Gearhart of West
Carter gets the job done against all levels of competition.
The future of girls’ basketball in Kentucky looks bright. There were thirteen members of the all tournament team with the following breakdown: 5 seniors, 3 juniors, 2 sophs, and 3 freshmen. Also, four teams participating in this tourney appeared in Dave Cantrall’s Top 20 in the Lexington Herald-Leader on February 4th: #4 Jackson County, #7 Clinton County, #16 West Carter, and #19 Newport Central Catholic.
