Paul Dunbar coach Eddie Oakley started the following lineup: 6-4 Sr. Rod Lyvers, 6-3 Sr. David Byars, 6-6 Jr. Ken Fox, 6-3 Sr. Clay Tate, and 6-0 So. Marcus Conner. Henry Clay coach Kirk Chiles countered with 5-11 Sr. Chris Jones, 6-2 Sr. Rod Dunham, 6-6 Jr. Clay List, 5-5 So. Lamont Campbell, and 5-8 Sr. Kyle Johnson.
Paul Dunbar won a thriller over Henry Clay by a score of 56-54. Dunbar actually led by 11 points in the third quarter, but Henry Clay mounted a rally and cut the lead to 44-43 at the end of the third quarter. The game turned bizarre with 4:49 remaining in the final period. Henry Clay was clinging to a 47-46 lead when Dunbar's Rod Lyvers stole the ball and threw down a dunk to give Dunbar a 48-47 lead. An intentional foul was also called on the play on Henry Clay but Lyvers was assessed a technical foul for celebrating or whatever after the dunk which happened to be his fifth foul. The Dunbar bench was also given a technical and the parade to the free throw line began. After the smoke cleared the score was tied 50-50. Henry Clay's Clay List apparently hit a go-ahead basket but it was waved off by a charging call. Dunbar's 6-0 So. Mike Matthews hit a driving layup with 12 seconds remaining to give Dunbar the lead. Henry Clay got a good look at the basket but Kyle Johnson's three point attempt rims out at the buzzer and Dunbar holds on for the 56-54 victory.
Dunbar was led tonight by 6-6 Jr. Kenneth Fox with 23 points.
Henry Clay was led by 6-6 Jr. Clay List with 24 points and 6-2 Sr.
Rod
Dunham added 16 points.
