Mason County (11-3) vs. Scott County (10-3) January 13, 2001
Mason County coach Kelly Wells started the following lineup: 6-2 Jr. D.J. Chambers, 6-0 So. Nathan Myrick, 6-3 Sr. Harry Lewis, 6-1 Fr. Chris Lofton, and 5-10 Jr. Tee Commodore. Scott County coach Billy Hicks countered with 6-3 Jr. Coy Zerhusen, 5-11 So. Steven Mazzoni, 6-8 Sr. Nate Austin, 5-11 Fr. Tyler Hicks, and 5-8 So. Nick Reed.
Scott County won a wild and wooly 80-79 overtime thriller over Mason Co. Mason Co. led 20-18 at the end of the first quarter but Scott Co. took a 34-33 lead at halftime. The score was tied 52-all at the end of three quarters setting the stage for a wild finish. Scott Co. led 62-59 with 3:47 remaining in regulation when Scott Co.'s ”C-3” Brown and Mason Co.'s Nathan Myrick were assessed technical fouls and ejected from the game. Scott Co. coach Billy Hicks was then given a technical. Regulation ended at 68-68 and the teams went to overtime. Scott Co. took a 72-68 lead but Mason Co. rallied to take a 79-78 lead. Scott Co.'s Nate Austin hit two free throws to give his team an 80-79 lead with 22 seconds remaining. Mason Co. got off a couple of shots but missed and Scott Co. held on for the victory.
Scott County was led tonight by Nate Austin with 23 points and
13 rebounds. Tyler Hicks added 16 points and ”C-3” Brown
chipped in with 15 points. Tee Commodore led Mason Co. with
15 points. Robert Myrick, Chris Lofton, D.J. Chambers,
and Nathan Myrick added 13, 10, 10, and 10 points respectively.
