Grant County (10-6) vs. Scott County (11-3)  January 16, 2001

Grant County coach Ron Kinmon started the following lineup:  6-1 Sr. Dugan Schlueter, 5-11 Jr. Eldon Maddox, 6-2 Jr. Stanley Riley, 6-1 So. Tyler Jones, and 5-9 Sr. Allen Shafer.  Scott County coach Billy Hicks countered with 6-3 Jr. Coy Zerhusen, 5-8 So. Nick Reed, 6-8 Sr. Nate Austin, 5-11 Fr. Tyler Hicks, and 5-11 So. Steven Mazzoni.

Scott County turned up the defense tonight and easily defeated Grant Co. by a score of 85-61.  Scott Co. had the task of stopping Allen Shafer who had lit up Lexington Catholic for 48 points earlier this year.  Scott Co. used Nick Reed, Todd Chisley, and Chris Travis defensively on Shafer and held him to 21 points, including 15 free throws.  The Cardinals raced out to a 43-16 halftime lead and coasted to the final margin.

Scott Co., playing without ”C-3” Brown tonight, was led by Coy Zerhusen with 18 points and 14 rebounds.  Nate Austin, Tyler Hicks, and Steven Mazzoni added 14, 13, and 10 points respectively.  Grant Co. was led by Allen Shafer with 21 points and Tyler Jones with 10.
