East Jessamine coach Chris O’Bryan started the following lineup: 6-3 Jr. Butch Jointer, 6-5 Sr. Chad Gilpin, 5-9 Sr. Stephen Stump, 6-2 Jr. Corey Wade, and 5-8 Jr. Steven Wayne. Lexington Catholic coach Danny Haney countered with: 6-3 Fr. Demetrius Green, 6-4 Jr. Ryan Morton, 6-3 Sr. Brendon Woody, and 5-9 So. Brian Smith, and 5-11 Sr. Clay Wolford.
Lexington Catholic led at the half 39-32 and increased their lead in the final period to win by a score of 97-72. Two statistics that stand out are free throws and turnovers. Lexington Catholic was 27 of 42 from the charity stripe while East Jessamine converted on 20 of 32 free throws. Lexington Catholic was whistled for 29 fouls while East Jessamine was called for 27 fouls. East Jessamine committed 28 turnovers while Lexington Catholic was guilty of 17 miscues. Clay Wolford was the catalyst for Catholic tonight as he was credited with four steals as the leader of Catholic’s ball hawking defense.
Lexington Catholic was led tonight by Demetrius Green who scored
a career high 30 points and pulled down 7 rebounds. Brendon Woody
added 19 points and Ryan Morton contributed 14 points and 9 rebounds.
East Jessamine was led by Butch Jointer with 19 points and 13 rebounds.
5-10 Sr. Josh Reho came off the bench to add 15 points, including
three three-pointers. Lexington Catholic was clicking on all cylinders
tonight and Coach Haney has them starting to peak at the right time, which
is fortunate because they still have to play Male and Scott County.
Coach O’Bryan has a nice team in East Jessamine with a good starting rotation
and a deep bench. Tonight was not their night but they are very capable
and could make a good showing in the upcoming tournaments.
