Bourbon County honored their 1984 state runner-up team before tonight's varsity game.  Evidently it made an impression on the young Colonels as they gave Ballard a terrific battle for three quarters before tiring in the final period to fall by a score of 102-79.  Ballard deserves their lofty national ranking as their deep, talented squad overcame a good effort by Bourbon County and a great performance by Bourbon County's Preston LeMaster to win by 23 points.

Ballard led 31-25 at the end of a first quarter marked by technical fouls on Ballard's Brandon Bender (for slapping the ball out of bounds) and another on Coach Renner.  Bourbon County continued to play tough and only trailed 45-42 at halftime.  Bourbon County's Preston LeMaster tallied 22 in the first half including 14 of 14 from the free throw line.  Adam Chiles led a balanced Ballard attack in the first half with 9 points.  Ballard finally gained a little breathing room in the third quarter behind the play of Brandon Bender and Adam Chiles to lead 76-64 at the end of the period.  Ballard turned up the pressure in the fourth quarter to finally subdue a tiring Bourbon County team.

Ballard was led tonight by Brandon Bender with 23 points and 12 rebounds.  Adam Chiles added 17 points and 4 assists. Preston LeMaster led  Bourbon County  with 36 points including 19 of 20 free throws before he fouled out with 4:25 remaining in the game.
